Magnificent 7 - The Original

When they came out with the remake of this classic, I went to the theater to see it because I remembered how great the original was. Well they don't make 'em like they used to, as my Dad always said. So that inspired me to buy a copy of the original because I haven't seen it in decades (it came out in 1960). Well it was just as awesome as I remembered it. If you haven't seen it in a while, you can pick it up for under $5, well worth it for nostalgia's sake alone.

Classic Western Drama - MUST SEE

You can't be a true Western fan and not appreciate the rework done on this classic retelling of the 7 Samurai, but with a truly wild west slant. An all-star cast tell the story of a poor, isolated village overrun by bandits - and the bravado of the 7 men who are willing to take a stand against overwhelming forces. The documentary is a welcome addition for die-hard Western fans. This one is a MUST OWN if you're a true fan of the wild west.

This is the original and best transition to the American west of one hundred of the all time best films, the 7 Samurai. A recent remake was done, but nothing compares to the stars and quality of acting in this original tale pulled from the 7 Samurai.
The current version is fine, but not as well acted, nor does it have the bevy of talent this "original" US version.
No film collection should be without this film.

Elmer Bernstein wrote a very moving score for this movie. I have not watched the recent version of the movie because I think it will not compare to this one (although if you like action, the newer one will probably be better; this one does not overdo the violence). It has some great actors in it, including Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen. It is a classic guys movie about some out-of-work gun-slingers who rescue a village from "banditos" in Mexico.

Quality of the picture from the master negative to dvd is excellent. I viewed it on my 4K set and it looks like Blu-ray. Awesome to see a stellar cast in such a setting. Just after this was shot, Steve McQueen, James Coburn and Charles Bronson would team up to film "The Great Escape", another award winning classic. Shot in location in Mexico, nice to get away from the studio sets back in Hollywood...adds to the realism of the plot.

This is how westerns should be. I haven't seen the remake nor am I interested in seeing it. Hollywood makes good movies today but generally when they do remakes they tend to ruin them. This movie is a classic western. The sites, the music, the acting and just the feeling you get watching it takes you back to a time when westerns ruled the box office. I just wish more westerns were made today.

This movie is a classic! One of the greatest westerns of all time. Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, and Steve McQueen star, but the entire cast is fantastic. With special affects being not so great until this current movie generation, actors really had to be excellent at their craft to sell it. This movie is no exception... great acting, great plot, and just one of the greatest movies ever.

Kurosawa’s seven samurai has been retold and retold in a number of guises. From a bugs life to the three amigos. But the magnificent seven is amongst the best.
An amazing cast that produce story’s of Hollywood legend behind the camera, are an amzing ensemble in one of the best westerns in film history. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon in front of the Tv

The "Magnificent Seven" is a true classic western with a truly outstanding cast. It is based on the Japanese movie "The Seven Samurai" by Kurosawa. Great fun to watch on many levels. Also interesting to watch the stars [Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and Robert Vaughn] to be continually vying for attention and stealing scenes with subtle ease

The remake pales in comparison to this original version of the film. Great cast includes Brenner, McQueen, Bronson and Coburn. How can you top that? No matter how many times you've seen this, do yourself a favor and pick it up on DVD. So when you're in the mood for a great western it's there at your fingertips. I never tire of watching it.

Based on Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai", "The Magnificent Seven" is the movie that gave birth to many others: namely every movie where a motley assortment of tough guys/girls come together to do the right thing. Plus this movie is stuffed with excellent acting. The good guys can only be as good as the bad guy (Eli Wallach) they're fighting.

It starts out learning about the "good" guys who are not so good. They morph into characters that down deep have a good solid moral fiber that wants to stand up for the underdog. The story is predictable but very enjoyable. You can figure out what will happen as you watch the movie but overall a great little diversion that everyone should see at least once.

Fantastic film, really an essential. Based on Kurasawa's Seven Samauri, this western adaptation featured an amazing cast. Yul Brenner, Steve McQueen, Eli Wallach, Robert Vaughn, Charles Bronson, and James Coburn tell the story of 7 gunfighter who are asked to protect a small Mexican town. Must see for the acting, directing, and story. Highly recommended.

One of the greatest westerns of the time. A classic Good versus Evil. Made up of an all-star cast lead by the venerable Yul Brenner and including greats such as James Coburn, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, and Robert Vaughn. Hard hitting action as good prevails, and a touch of romance. Suitable for the entire family.

This is the same movie back in the 70s without HD remastered. It is still fun to watch. Although the sound is updated as 5.1 surround, I still cannot hear conversations and other sound effects very well from this DVD. Also there are only Spanish and French subtitles. Hopefully the copyright owner will allow a HD remastered version soon in the future. I will give it a five stars at that time, so I am only willing to give it a four stars for now.

Love this classic movie. Good story, taken from Japanese "Seven Samurai" and although there were many sequels, copy cats and a recent remake, this one holds up with other great westerns. Steve McQueen, Robert Vaghan, James Coburn, Charles Bronson and Eli Wallach (as Mexican Bandido leader) are all amazing to watch.

Being a big fan of the remake, I purchased and watched having never seen the original before. Was amazingly done and with all the stars you normally don't see together in today's movies. Loved the way remake used similar 'stories' that Steve McQueen mentioned. A MUST have for your collection!

I watched this movie many many years ago and it is just as good this time around as it was back then. I think i enjoyed it more this time since most of the good actors are aged or deceased now. My appreciation of those actors for how they acted so many years ago. Great movie for old times sake.

Although not the same as the old westerns that starred greats like Bob Steele, Tex Ritter, Carlton Moore, or Hoot Gibson, this is a great movie. Good guys / bad guys and the poor folk caught in between. Even Akira Kurosawa (director of Seven Samurai) thought it was a good movie. Great entertainment!
