What a bust. First off, I will say the hardware is very nice. Scans with few problems, the image quality can be tailored to whatever your needs require. It scans in color or B/W, various resolutions, and can combine scans into one file. You can scan directly to a Neat Cloud account, or a variety of other online storage locations such as Dropbox or Evernote, or to your computer. That being said, there are countless document scanners on the market that can do that, so why pay more than the cheapest one? Quite simply: the software. Which is exactly where this product falls short. It becomes very apparent very quickly that the software designer(s) do not know conventional protocols, and did not conduct any product testing with anyone who wasn't already intimately familiar with how it worked already. You will tear your hair out trying to figure out their proprietary design; it the least intuitive product I have seen in years. And don't count on their support pages. They have lots of posts and videos that ignore the design quagmire, and give you very basic answers for a very complex program. The organizational features seem to only work when you store your items on their fee-based cloud server. Worse yet, if you scan to any other location, good luck even finding your scan. It doesn't go where you think it should be, and if I can't find it, what's the point? I'm quite certain if I had a Neat programmer sitting next to me, he/she could answer all my questions, but that's not exactly a viable business model. Also, since their customer support is as abysmal as their software design, you can't even get simple questions answered in a timely manner. If all you want is a quality scanner, go for it! But if you're counting on the software, beware!

Great little wifi scanner

Works great. REALLY EASY to set up.
1. Connected to wifi
2. Set it to save scans to our server via FTP
3. I was up and running within 5 minutes.
So far, it's worth the cost that I paid for it
Does have a glitch where it scans in some pages in the wrong orientation occasionally so you have to fix them after they are saved. I'm assured by Neat support that they are aware of this issue and this is being fixed in an upcoming software update. I would've given 5 stars if not for that issue.

Decent Niche Scanner

This is a niche scanner, not a generic document scanner like some reviews have complained that it isn't. Neat has created software, cloud storage and a device to scan, recognize and store your documents, receipts, etc. If you just want to scan documents to PDF, this is probably not the scanner for you because it's too sophisticated a device and over-priced for that basic use. For what it does, it does an adequate job. It's not high-volume. Some documents tend to feed in incorrectly and get mangled. Some scans also get the obligatory phantom scan line down the page for some unknown reason. The OCR software is pretty accurate and does convert text and numbers pretty well. This is handy if you're paperless and like uploading financial information into programs like Quicken. I'm not fond of Neat limiting document saves from the device only to their cloud rather than a third-party cloud. It's extra effort to scan and save to your computer and then upload to a third-party cloud. The computer software does have a tendency to crash on my Mac, but I'm not sure if that's limited to just me or not. Also, not sure if it's isolated to me or not, but the scanner's USB cord caused my computer's USB port to stop working. All-in-all, I would probably not buy this again. I'm too invested in it now to stray from it. There's something to be said for simple, efficient, reliable, cheap scanners.

If your attracted to this Neat Connect Scanner to utilize a free 3rd party could space like Evernote, Skydrive, Google cloud, Drop box, etc., then this is not the product for you. In order to used the Neat desktop software with documents scanned to the Cloud, you will only be able to complete this with Neat Cloud, I spend over an hour with the lack luster Neat Tech support and it turns out after the 3 free months or free Neat Cloud you have to pay for a subscription in order to 100% utilize the desktop software . 3rd party services will NOT scan into the Neat Software. 3rd party clouds can only be used as a back up when scanning to them. It kind of makes this $500 scanner nothing better than any other affordable scanner. I was told by Neat that if you connect your USB and scan directly to your computer and then you can get some use of the Neat desktop software, but that appears to make the Wifi option useless. I will be returning this soon, If anyone has any helpful information, i'd be glad to hear it, and I will obviously update my review if I was misinformed by the Neat Tech support. thank you & good luck

Worst scanner ever!

I bought this thinking it would be great. It was compact, easy to use. While it really is compact, It jams constantly. I've tried different paper types thinking it was just the paper I was using, but it doesn't matter. There is no rhyme or reason as to why, just loves to jam. I might get one out of every ten pages that goes through the first time. If I hadn't of thrown away the box, I would take it back.

Read the service charge fine print

I made my initial set up of the Neat Scanner on iCloud, but shortly thereafter I bought the iCloud desktop hard drive for storage instead. I didn't utilize the "Free Trial Time" online and didn't catch that they when it expired, the Neat company began to debit my account for $14.99 every month. No tification or Receipt was send to inform me that I was being billed. Shame on me for not catching it earlier and in the end I was charged $165 for a service I wasn't using. When I called customer service they informaed me that it wasn't their company practice to notify customers of billing. Kind of funny considering the product is used to scan receipts and keep track of finances. Nothing in place to red flag a customer being billed but having zero usage either.
BEWARE THE FINE PRINT IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE THE ONLINE STORAGE FOR THIS PRODUCT

I like the fact that I can send a file to several different cloud sites if I wish but the Neat cloud is helpful and updates on my computer.
You can connect just the usb cable if you wish to not go to the cloud. Scans quickly and has been accurate.

I purchased this unit to help get my files in order and to make them easier to find things... but the unit did one thing I never could have expected. I was getting medical treatment for one issue, and it conflicted with the treatment for another. I was able to pull up all of my tests, reports, notes and contact information for each of my doctors. It was a perfect purchase.

Terrible on so many levels.

I will get to the point.
1. The application constantly says there is no paper loaded into the scanner when there is. When you restart the application it all of a sudden recognizes the there is paper in the chute.
2.Application is always "unexpectedly" quitting.
3.When plugged in to my computer it gives an error message that it is not connected on the scanner, however, it works from the application on the desktop, so clearly it's connected.
4. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! I have reached out a few times about these issues and have gotten only one response in terrible grammar telling me "we recommend that you sign up for our Neat care Service Plan which is at $49.95.giving you direct access reps via phone or chat for 60 days and 1 year unlimited email for tech concerns. ill be happy to sign you up for this now."
5. The cloud costs money which they don't mention in the advertisement.
6. The screen is comically small, making entering text into it annoyingly difficult.
7. Scanner jammed when I tried to scan more than 4 pages.
I could go on, but I think you get the point. I will be returning this scanner to say the least.

Purchased the product based on the packaging and branding. Brought home to set up and could not get it to scan. 40 minuted wait for customer service then 10 minutes of irrelevant perfunctory information gathering before trying to diagnose and assist with a fix to my problem. "does the wheel spin? Is it jammed? We'll OK, let's send you a new unit....." Ridiculous wait for 30 seconds of help. I wouldn't want to depend on a company to digitally file important documents when they have next to zero customer support, not-withstanding the hardware (fresh-out-of-the-box) didn't work at all.
