This movie crept in and out of the theaters without much notice, but it is not to be missed. A deliberate throwback to the buddy action comedies of the 1980, this one tops them all with a funny perspective on 1977 and some great comedy stylings from Ryan Gosling. I never realized that Gosling could be so funny and frumpy and he is great, but he is topped by the actress playing his daughter, Angourie Rice. Russell Crowe plays straight man here, and he does the job well, plus a colorful assortment of bad guys to keep things moving. Great action set pieces and wonderful Los Angeles locations make this a must-see movie.

Surprisingly fun movie. Really good cast chemistry plus some jokes that had a long set up but had me laughing out loud. Film does have some very adult content so not a kids film. A tribute to film noir, 70's and 80's detectives like Richard Dreyfuss in the 1978 film The Big Fix. I don't want to give away any jokes and advise you not to watch the trailer (which spoils a couple). Some very nice action/fight scenes too. I'm not sure how some of the film shots were made (city scene with cars that weren't present day but 1970's ones) without maybe some excellent cg on some of the car traffic scenes.

A buddy, action mystery set in the seventies around murder and the adult industry.
Think about that....think it will work? Well....it does and it doesn't.
On the plus side the stars are great and their chemistry is even better. The dialogue is sharp as a razor and the late seventies L.A. setting looks good.
On the negative. The plot is a bit convoluted. The mix of the dirtier elements with minors is a bit creepy and at times the pacing is a bit stop and start.
Overall after I weigh the positives and negatives this movie is definitely an entertaining and worthwhile buy.

It's good to see these two actors having a wonderful time. Russell Crowe has a definite flare for comedy, but Ryan Gosling steaks this film hands down from Crowe. A knockout in all his previous films and a surprising song and dance man in LA LA LAND, it's noteworthy that Gosling is becoming one of Hollywood's most versatile actors...drama and comedy are both strong points for him, and we can expect even greater performances from him in the future. I am certain he will add an Oscar to his awards sometime soon. He just garnered one acting award for LA LA LAND,

Let's talk about the Nice Guys. What is it? Well it's a movie that has a 70's style feel to it with a unique and quirky story. It's a story of two anti heroes that doesn't have a conventional or predictable plot twist. Is it redefining the wheel? No. Is it fun to watch? Yes. The cast both meshes and sticks out from one another so as not to be your stereotypical lackluster action/detective film.
I'll watch it again.
This does include the typical +Dvd and Online code for tablets. Yes it's expected these days, but it's still something I appreciate.

Two guys ( a P.I. and an enforcer) are thrown into a case of a missing adult film star. The two leads work very well together and their chemistry is solid. We have a decent mystery but just be sure you know what you are getting yourself into. Not for kiddos. We retrace the steps of the actress which takes us to nudity, very strong language, foul-mouthed kids and heavy violence. Beyond this; the story is interesting, the cast gives great funny performances, the cityscape is so well captured and is honestly pretty original.

Holland March (Ryan Gosling) is a down-on-his-luck private eye in 1977 Los Angeles. Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) is a hired enforcer who hurts people for a living. Fate turns them into unlikely partners after a young woman named Amelia (Margaret Qualley) mysteriously disappears. Healy and March soon learn the hard way that some dangerous people are also looking for Amelia. Their investigation takes them to dark places as anyone else who gets involved in the case seems to wind up dead.

Shane Black has been one of my favorite screenwriters since the late 1980's with the release of the first Lethal Weapon. Then he followed that up with The Last Boy Scout and The Long Kiss Goodnight in the 1990's, before disappearing from the scene. Then He made a comeback in style with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. The man has flavor. You can always tell when you're watching a Shane Black flick. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang still remains my favorite of his films, but The Nice Guys is a awesome addition to his oeuvre.

"The Nice Guys" is a movie we needed. It's an original buddy/cop comedy, it feels fresh, new and it's exciting. The chemistry between Gosling and Crowe is there, not a dull moment between the two. Goslings' daughter in the film is also a great addition as well. Her comedic timing is perfect and her acting is great. Not too many people saw this film in theaters which is a shame. It sets up for a sequel, so hopefully in the future we'll have another crazy hilarious adventure.

After Iron Man 3, director Shane Black brings us The Nice Guys, a witty 1970's set comedy about two of the world's worst detectives. The Nice Guys is a mean and hilarious neon orange soaked masterpiece of screen writing. The detectives played by Ryan Gosling and Russel Crowe are terrifically fun characters, and deliver Black's quirky dialogue like pros. A true masterpiece of buddy mystery storytelling, and brilliant filmmaking. Highly recommended.

For those who are tired of the big blockbuster action films that have been dominating the summer for the past few years look no further! The Nice Guys is a wonderfully creative film that focuses on character and gives you a very satisfying film overall. The comedy is very natural and the characters play off each other so well that you'll want this film to have a sequel. It's gory, sexy, funny, actiony, everything you'll ever want in a film.

I bought this film because it was on sale and saw that the reviews were very good so I gave it a shot. Boy was I entertained. This movie was very very funny, Ryan Gosling a a comic genius as a private detective. Russell Crowe plays a tough guy for hire which suits him very well. The chemistry between these two is what makes this film a better buddy comedy than most. Not a lot of action but the story is so good you will not mind.

"The Nice Guys" is the cop movie I've always wanted. Poignant yet consistently funny, nostalgic yet timely, and a good cop/bad cop dynamic that actually works thanks to the awesome script and stand-out performances. This movie is consistently funny and creative, easily one of the most enjoyable films of recent years, And it all comes in a value priced release from Best Buy. Highly recommended.

One of my favorite movies that came out of 2016. Extremely underrated comedy. I can't recommend this movie enough. Ryan and Russell play off of each other extremely well and I found myself laughing way more than I expected. If you are a fan of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang you must see this movie because Shane Black does an incredible job at making yet another interesting, action packed, comedy that you can watch over and over.

It's such a shame that this film didn't do better. In a time of remakes, super hero movies, sequels, super hero movie remakes and sequels, we need more original fims and Shane Black did just that. This is a smart film that blends action, mystery, and comedy seamlessly. The acting by the leads is top notch. I can't say enough about this film, but I'll leave it with this... it hit the spot! You won't regret watching it.

As someone who loves Rgan Gosling, I came into the movie to watch just for him, but had low expectations. I'm so glad to say this one of the funniest movies of the year. I ended up seeing it 3 times in theaters, and have watched it a handful of times since I picked it up. Gosling and Crowe are great and the script nails the humor better than most. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a laugh.

I must be honest that in the past Shane Black's films haven't really been my thing but for The Nice Guys I remember watching the trailer and seeing glimpses of great humor so I gave this one a chance and oh my, it wowed me. This is in my opinion one of the funniest movies of the year. With a fantastic script the writing an action just pops. A true laugh out loud edge of your seat action drama comedy.

A Refreshing Change for Crowe and Gosling

I had heard the rumors on this comic display starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe. It contains similar plot devices and slapstick shenanigans you see in numerous comedies but I still enjoyed immensely. I can't remember Crowe and Gosling exploring too many comedic roles. Normally they portray brooding or fragile characters. It good to see that have humorous side to themselves.

Part screwball comedy, part neo noir, part buddy picture and all 1970's kitsch this little gem is a delight. Excellent performances from all concerned, great period décor, music and style. The mystery is deep enough to keep you interested, but it is the characters that keep you fully involved. The good guys aren't good and the bad guys are worse, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

I watched this on a flight home recently and was very surprised how much I enjoyed it. So much that I knew I'd be able to watch it enough to justify owning it. I love the story, Ryan and Crow play off each other and their character's stories were well developed enough to make me really care for their well being but too much that their stories were unbelievable.
