So this show was originally billed as a Star Trek parody...but it's much more than that.
There is an air of informality pretty much everywhere on the ship between the characters (and some of that rubs me the wrong way)...but this is a minor gripe. The show is a jewel, and has become more Star Trek than the current Star Trek has morphed into. The feel of historical Trek is here in spades...probably because you can find credits of multiple Trek alumni in writing, production, direction and even one regular cast member (Penny Jerald-Johnson).
If anything is holding you back from exploring this series...don't let it. Pick this up. If you long for the old days of Star Trek, you just might find this to your liking.

Reason i buy DVDS and Chapters, seasons, box set what ever you want to called them is for the extra stuff like behind the scene, how did they do that and bloopers. This doesn't have much. But those things, I personally see them as the second reason why i get them. Now put that aside, the show doesn't disappoint. Great cast, story lines are creative and the comedy is on point. I dough the second season, thats next.

More than just a parody of Star Trek, The Orville may just be what today’s day and age needs to take the place of Star Trek and that old niche of science fiction serials. True, Star Trek lives on in Discovery, but The Orville captures a spirit of Star Trek that Discovery does not quite have; the wonder and family-fun of space travel.
Complain all you want, current iterations Of Star Trek and similar franchises have shifted over to being glorified soap dramas. The Orville makes me want to explore the cosmos again.

What I originally expected to be a lazy satire of Star Trek turned out to be one of my favorite television series currently airing. While topics and content may result in a show that's inappropriate for younger audiences, this series plays like a genuine love letter for fans of both the original Star Trek series and TNG with clever writing and even more spaceship spectacle. If you're itching for more Star Trek and Discover isn't what you're looking for, give The Orville a chance.

Seth is a trip!! All his shows and movies are funny to me. 'The Orville' has an old school feel to it, and it pokes fun at those old school sci-fi shows. There are some "Haha" moments, but most of it has that dry type comedy which can be really funny if its done right, which Seth is good at. ...And even though season 2 just started, its proving to be just as funny as the first season.

This show feels like home for a displaced Star Trek fan like me. Cut out the jokes and you basically have a straight Star Trek series from when Star Trek had heart!
The DVD set has all the episodes and some bonus features- honestly a lot more stuff on it than I would have expected from a brand new series would get!

Started the season out as what seemed to be a comical parody. But the episodes gradually got a little more serious. Don't get me wrong, they were still funny but The Orville started to feel less of a parody and more like a decent space series with real-life challenges. I enjoyed this series.

Remember how warm and fuzzy you felt watching TNG back in the day, well so did Seth McFarlane. Orville collects a lot of the cast and crew from that era and created his own offbeat spin on the future. First season starts off a bit crass, but finds it's legs a few episodes in and always has a heart of gold.

This is a great show. The production values are fantastic. It looks incredible. Most episodes are as strong as Star Trek Next Generation episodes. The only downside are a couple of episodes that have the old tired plot of the beliefs of other societies that are different from ours must be wrong.

Seth MacFarlane's loving homage/parody of Star Trek has the perfect blend of satire, drama, and social commentary. The Orville also stands well on its own merits as a science fiction show and not just as an affectionate parody of the Star Trek franchise. As to the DVD release itself, it is rather bare bones in terms of special features and it is disappointing that no blu-ray or 4K version exists.

The Orville season 1 is a good deal for Sci-Fi fans. This series is thought-provoking & funny in the same tradition as Star Trek TOS & NG. The characters are multidimensional and given to change & growth as must be in any story universe that is worth exploring. The only downside is that I could not find this in Blu-ray, but had to settle for DVD format or not having it at all.

While there is a great deal of comedy in the show, it has many good episodes based on social commentary. It tackles controversial topics around the humor without being heavy handed. The show has many Star Trek Vets behind the camera and it is clear the cast grew up loving Trek as they have crafted a unique and enjoyable show.

You can tell that Seth MacFarlane is a huge Star Trek fan while watching this show. He takes Trek and puts his own spin on it and does his own thing. It's not a parody but it does lovingly mocks Trek but not in a mean way but a respectful one. Great cast and the effects and score are great.

If you want to go where no man has gone before then watch Orville. You can call it a Star Trek comedy with tongue in cheek firmly planted. Great special effects & production. Looking forward to season 2.

Great ensemble of characters, most with some kind of off the wall human flaw. Stories are often reminiscent of those of early Star Trek episodes, with more humor and human frailty exposed.

Immediately your like this is Star Trek, but with modern sarcasm. It's a comedy, but not a comedy. It takes the best of Star Trek and leaves you wanting more. Great show.

Futuristic and current at the same time, The Orville puts real life people out exploring in the stars. Sometimes serious, sometimes funny, it’s one of my favorites.
