    Great Martial Arts Extravaganza

I saw "The Raid 2", starring Iko Uwais-The Raid: Redemption, Merantau; Arifin Putra-Macabre, Lost in Love; Tio Pakusodewo-Java Heat, The Forbidden Door and Julie Estelle-Brokenhearts, Macabre. This is a sequel, in case you were curious about the 2 in the title and there is a third Raid in the works. This is a martial arts extravaganza that, just like the first one, spotlights the Indonesian martial art of Silat. It starts off about 2 hours after the first one ended. Iko, the surviving cop, is recruited to go undercover and bust up a crime ring. Tio is one of the gang bosses Iko is after. Arifin is Tio's son and Julie is a hired muscle that goes by the name of Hammer Girl-in case you were wondering, she does not do carpenter work. She has a brother that is called Baseball Bat Man, and I'm sure that you can guess what his favorite weapon might be. There are lots of fight scenes; one in a bathroom stall involving about 50 guys-I'm not kidding, one on a subway train with Julie and her twin hammers, one that takes place inside one of the cars involved in a high speed car chase and one in a kitchen that is almost like a ballet. Oh yeah, Iko is the fight choreographer and some of the fights are unbelievable-I don't see how some of the actors/stunt men were not really hurt during some of the fights. It is brutally violent. The only complaint I could think of is that it is sub-titled-you have to read it-but that is a minor quibble. If you liked the first one, this one is better. It's rated "R" for the bloody, brutal violence, sexuality-including nudity-and language and has a running time of 2 hours & 30 minutes. I loved this movie and would buy it on Blu-Ray.

First of all, if you didn't see the prequel to this film, 'The Raid: Redemption" then seeing this film will totally confuse you. Good thing is that you can watch them back to back and have one LONG movie, and the events of this movie take place right after the events in "Redemption". This movie combines stunning fight scenes with brutal violence. If you have a weak stomach or a faint heart, then this movie isn't for you. This movie could have had 20 minutes or so trimmed from it, as it clocks in at 150 minutes. It lags a bit here and there as a result. The picture quality on this blu-ray is outstanding..especially considering the fact that a lot of the film is shot with hand-held cameras to allow good quality action scenes. The DTS-MA 5.1 soundtrack is immersive and forceful. You can feel every bone crack and fist blow, and gunshots ring out with commanding presence. There are several language options with subtitles available, as well. I personally preferred the Indonesian track with English subs, but that's just my personal preference. There is an English Dubbed track also, for those that don't care for subtitles. The subtitled tracks seemed to have richer sound than the English dubbed track, and, as always, the dubbing doesn't match the mouth movements. Also, the English track seemed to sound a bit "hollow" or "canned" in the dialog. Nevertheless, if you're not super critical about such things, you'll probably enjoy the English track just fine. Regardless of which track you listen to, stay FAR away from the DVD version of this movie. The DVD is a lousy 480p pressing with a VERY puny sounding soundtrack. if you're a fan of this genre, this film is a good choice to add to your collection...and it also has some very cool home theater demo moments.

This fantastic sequel picks up almost right where the first left off. Rama is drawn in to another plot after Bejo, a gang lord, emerges and starts taking control of Jakarta. Rama is recruited by a special police force focused on anti-corruption. They aim to bring down the crooked cops working with Bejo. Rama goes undercover in prison where he meets Uco, the son of Bangun, another gang lord. When he gets out, Uco gets him a job with his father. Rama is now undercover trying to oust corrupt cops from within a very strong gang. I'm trying not to spoil anything so that's about all I can tell you. You know you should just buy this movie. You've seen the first one (and if you haven't, you should) and you're looking for more. This has more. More fights, more blood, more brutality, more everything. There are some new characters which I love, Hammer Girl, Baseball Bat Boy, The Assassin, and Mad Dog returns but as Prakoso. He is a new character played by the same actor so don't be confused. It's another awesome film filled with the bloody fights we've come to love from the first one as well as a great story. Just buy it already.

After watching this movie, you will find that every other action movie you watch will be extremely boring in comparison. If you liked The Raid 1, then this one is basically 5x more intense! It features one of the greatest fight scenes I've ever seen in my life (I was literally shaking and on the edge of my seat while watching it), the greatest car chase scene I've ever witnessed, and probably some of the most violent and cringe-worthy moments all nicely packaged within this one great movie. If you are a fan of Tarantino films, this film has many aspects that are very Tarantino-esque, especially when all heck breaks loose midway through the movie. I just hope the Blu-Ray has many extras as this is one of my most favorite films of all time. NOTE: You DO NOT "need" to watch The Raid 1, to follow the story line. This movie holds up perfectly well by itself.

The Raid 2 is even better than the original. It features some of the most amazing, creative, & intense fight scenes I've ever seen. The showstopper being the kitchen one-on-one battle. There are some new interesting characters with the additions of Baseball Bat Boy & Hammer Girl. I loved the cameo of Yayan Ruhian (Mad Dog in the original) playing a different character. As much as I liked the first Raid, there wasn't much of a story. The Raid 2 has a solid story of Rama going undercover in the mob to expose police corruption. He also has to deal with a potential war between two mob families. The story and the action compliment each other to make a great overall movie. The extras show how they set up the action scenes & the locations. My favorite being the Q&A with the director & the cast. I really appreciate how they made this on such a small budget. The Raid 2 is easily one of the best movies I've seen this year.

Thankfully I read the Rolling Stone article about this movie. Otherwise, it may never have reached my watch list. Based on the article, I watched the first installment, The Raid: Redemption which was good, but a little thin on plot. But the martial arts action was off the charts. Raid 2 is infinitely better than the first chapter with a detailed plot and even more jaw dropping fight sequences. Also, the various henchmen/women assassins in this movie added to the over the top feel with their unique tools of the trade including baseballs, hammers and bats. At about 2 1/2 hours long, this movie could have been a drag, but it was riveting throughout. Definitely a purchase. Can't wait to watch it again!

A Sequel That Is Also As Good As The First One

"The Raid: Redemption" and "The Raid 2" must be two of the best action movies of this decade. This movie's action sequences are amazing, as the main actors were actually trained so they wouldn't have to use stunt doubles. Now, there are some parts that you are going to say "What? That's unrealistic", such as certain baseball scene... But anyway, nobody is perfect. This movie's story is also more expanded than the first movie, so the movie will go slow at times often, but it totally pays off when the action scenes start. If you bought the first film, and you are worried that this one is "rated", don't worry, the producers only cut 2 minutes off the movie. There is still plenty of... "gore" per say. If you liked the first one, you should definitely buy this.

if you saw the first raid, the 2nd one will knock your socks off even more. producers stated that fight choreography for this film was planned before they even started making the first film! Essentially this was supposed to be the first film but for whatever reason they switched it up. The franchise is all the better for it because this Sequel is better than its predecessor. The quality of the video transfer is immaculate and you see the brutal fight scenes. The special features are a delight to watch. The only drawback is that this isn't the uncut version (not like you would be able to tell). But no one knows when that version will ever come out and you can find one cut scene online. ENJOY.

I saw the first movie and was shocked by the brutality of it. This film does not shy away from that legacy, it does however leave the confines of the apartment building and takes us on a wide ranging adventure from prison, to a night club, and a trendy restaurant that always seems to be empty. It is bloody, it is brutal, and it rocks. I went in to ths movie being told to look for this one action scene that you can't miss, I spent too much of the film (on my first viewing) looking for that scene and underappreciated the story threads being woven together. When you watch it just relax and enjoy the ride.

The first Raid movie is such a good movie, it is non stop pure kick-assery from the moment the movie starts. I was a little worried that The Raid 2 was going to have trouble topping that break neck pace, but they did something totally different by instead of ramping up the speed, they slowed it down and allowed a story to be told. The Raid 1, there is not so much a plot as there is a short set up: These guys are good, these guys are bad, watch them fight. The Raid 2 gets more into the seedy underworld of organized crime and this in turn makes the fights that come later mean something. It is a great movie and definitely any action fan should see.

This movie is very clean in terms of high-definition video quality. It definitely makes good use of Blu Ray capability. It's filled with many artistic screen images, creative camera angles and crisp sound. Speaking of sound however, I recommend watching it in it's original language (Indonesian) and reading the subtitles. The cheesey English voice-overs, definitely detract from the film, and don't match with the characters appearances. The fight sequences are great and there's no talking during the fights so you don't have to worry about missing anything while reading. I must caution though, that this movie is extremely violent and gorey (often unnecessarily) so it may not be comfortable for some viewers. All-in-all I enjoyed it but the original film of the series left me with a better feeling.

I read the reviews of this Blu Ray and its first part (RAID) online and I saw good reviews and high recommendations. I also realized this is a Sony distributed disc, so the chances are good. I am glad I purchased this from Best Buy and I really enjoyed the movie. It is one of the best action movies I have lately seen. This part II is even better than the first part. It is not as dark as the first one and it looks more like a high-budget move. It is also longer about 150 minutes of non-stop action. The score is again very good. Best Buy price was right and I highly highly recommend this movie.

After seeing The Raid and knowing there would be a sequel, I couldn't wait to see it. Starts off essentially after the end of the first movie and spends a bit flashing back and setting up the plot. Slightly convoluted at times but essentially is a cop going undercover in order to bring down the bad guys. The action scenes in this are over the top and uber violent! Bad guys die in horrific ways though most of it is CGI and not fully "on screen". This is long for an action movie as well, clocking in at 2.5 hours long. At any rate, well worth your time if you saw the original or are simply an action fan.

If you like Raid 1, you'll enjoy this one even more. The Raid 2 is a great action film. The fight scenes, the car chases, and every action scene is top notch. The plot and story are good and make sense, but it's all about the action. This film contains some of the best fight scenes you'll see on film (the club scene, the kitchen scene). Also, it pays homage to Bruce Lee's 'Game of Death' with characters (hammer girl) and the last act of what the main character has to do.

This movie is just as great if not better than the first part. in The Raid the movie was limited to just a building of mayhem but in this one they are able to film in different locations which add to the story. Features -Director commentary -The next chapter: shooting a sequel -Q&A with Gareth Evans, Iko Uwais, and Joe Trapanese Blu-ray exclusives -Gang war deleted scene -Ready for a fight: on location -A violent ballet: the choreography

This picks up from the first film only bigger! Evans directs another wallop of a film this time with a budget. Part of the cleverness to his first Raid movie was that it was a lower budget so he contained it pretty much all in on building. This is more broad in locations and story-line, which can be a disappointment for sequels as they feel the need to expand (i.e., Avengers 2, National Treasure 2, etc.), but yet the main character still brings it, the fights are still wacky and creative, and overall still delivers nicely! Waiting for a 3rd now....

If you liked, loved, or worship the first Raid, you will like, love, or worship the second Raid. The action and fighting sequences are some of the most well thought out, best choreographed scenes I have ever scene before. The only negative is that The Raid 2 can be long in parts (about a 2 hour and 30 minute runtime). There is an actual storyline to follow this time around, and areas do drag a bit. The above said, it's nice to see some story was injected into the action, they just need to fine tune it the third time around...yes, we all want a third movie, so make it.

Hands down this is by far one of the most violent and action driven sagas to reach American shores. I didn't think the first offering could be surpassed. However, the choreography, storyline, and overall action of this movie will resonate with you for time to come. Be ready for a hell of ride. Masterful in its gravity for action and entertainment -- I haven't seen a martial arts movie that has kept me in awe since maybe "True Legend" or "IP Man series"

as a sequel to the underrated "The Raid", this film belongs in the rare pantheon of sequels that stand up to its predecessor, like the second Godfather. This film engulfs you in its aura and ceases to release you until the credits begin rolling. Hopefully the director, Gareth Evans, continues his auteur path and continues with films like this and does not succumb to the industry whims of selling out and making big budget, blockbuster movies.
