The casting of this mid 1950’s action drama film is evidence that the paring, at the time, of two of the industries power house actors – Wayne & Turner – who were aptly directed - and a drama which was also supported by some of the best support actors of the period would be a “winner!” This is a story of stubbornness of the sole and the drive for mission accomplishment. And this movie does have the ability to touch the sole of its’ audience. Its’ ending does leave you with a question and an answer to discover

love john wayne have been waiting for this to come out

Ten years after the end of WW2 John Wayne makes a film which portrays a good German, anti-Fascist sea captain. Good action, forced romantic subplot with Lana Turner. Not perfect, but worth getting.

john wayne as a captain of a german flagged container ship, caught in the vacum between peace time and world war two germany. he wants to deliver his crew and ship home to germany from austrailia, but must do so sans fuel, provisions and any support from fellow sea going captains. he also, on top of all that becomes a hunted ship when his second in command, murders two ship wreck survivors at an island aid station. he then truly becomes the hunted, has to make due with what he has, and can improvise. on top of that, he must deal with sharks, mutinus crew members, and being hunted by an adversary, whose real interest is lana turner....great action, character studies......kind of "red river" on the high seas.
