This movies is pretty good. Reminds me of "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" (yes, I've seen it, many times). A modern version of it I suppose. Del Torro is excellent in telling his story about a beauty and a beast. Well put together and acted.

Although not my favorite film, I can appreciate the effort and the storytelling. A quote I like to use is "A movie is a movie, but a film is a movie that makes you think." This movie made me think. And, it stays with you long after seeing it.

I know that a lot of people don't think this deserved to win Best Picture (myself included), but it's still an absolutely beautiful film. GDT is one of the best directors of our time.

Guillermo del Toro films are typically notable for their aesthetic choices, their production design, and their attention to detail. One can look back at the filmmaker's body of work and quickly see that there are countless themes that re-surface time and time again, much of this happening within the realm of the types of stories del Toro likes to tell and the visual prowess with which they are presented in. With his latest, The Shape of Water, the director is still very much working within his wheelhouse, but for the first time in some time it feels as if there is nothing more important to the movie no matter the extravagance of the sets and costumes or the practicality of the monster make-up than the story itself as well as the core relationship that both grounds this story and lifts it up. Now, if you know anything about The Shape of Water prior to going into the film then you know that this core relationship is formed between a human woman and a mysterious sea creature that is housed in the bowels of the top secret facility where she works as a maid. If that initially weirds you out a bit just think of it as the opposite of Ariel and Prince Eric; this way you can find some solace in the fact you at least understand you were holding a double standard against the picture. I understand there is a slight difference in the two because of the full-on creature feature being portrayed in this film whereas the scenes featuring Ariel and Eric being romantic in The Little Mermaid were ones where she was walking on land, but the concept still supports it and more, The Shape of Water completely owns this relationship from the moment we first glimpse our meager protagonist in Sally Hawkins' Elisa Esposito. Yes, of course The Shape of Water is a gorgeously rendered portrait of some alternate universe in the early sixties where government experimentation goes as far as studying a God-like merman and feels like a fairy tale of sorts for adults where not everything is perfect, ideal, or even necessarily magical, but what The Shape of Water does find and allow are these fantastical elements that breathe a fresh life and perspective into what are otherwise some dark and troubled times both in this universe and in the lives of characters who were seemingly never given a fair shot at life in the first place. This is effectively why The Shape of Water succeeds for as much as one can go on about all of the beautifully crafted extraneous factors it is this belief that comes to be sustained in this abnormal relationship and the beauty of the affection it conveys in its own right that we are, maybe unexpectedly, moved.

Picked up this movie a few days ago & I'm so glad I finally did! It's one of my all-time favorites now and such a timely movie as well. A well deserved Oscar winner for best picture last year.

This was quite a beautifully magical movie! Great performances, excellent direction from Mr. Del Toro, exquisite production design and sweet story line makes this one a must see!

This was a great movie, very stylish, and romantic. Some good fish sex scenes, so perhaps not for the youngsters, but a great moral to the story. Also, it won an Oscar so it must be good.

The shape of water is a great movie about a character feeling out of place in the world and finds someone else who is the same way and they meet and form and unusual bond and it’s great

I watched this in the theaters before the 2018 Oscars, and thought it would be good to own. I played it on my 4K Sony Projector home theater system, and was able to relive a great movie!

I was greatly surprised that this was such a great storyline. I enjoyed it very much. It had very interesting characters . the story was about loneliness but really about love.

Guillermo Del Toro is the master at crafting a horror/love story all in one. This fantasy set in the very real world of the mid-20th century is a feast for the eyes, mind, and heart.

Watching this on 4K with a home theater system on a large tv is just awesome. Seeing it, hearing it and feeling it. Yes feeling. Just awesome if you have a nice home theatre.

I loved this movie, it is very romantic and it also has it's funny moments. I would recommend it to an older person because it does have some violent uncomfortable moments.

some of it could be interpreted as controversial but it's like a modern fairy tale! This movie was incredible!!! It was like "Edward Scissorhands" for adults :-) :-) :-)

I bought this for for the wife. Thinking it would be more of a chick flick. The story line was good, Thee acting was good. The visual effects were outstanding.

Shape of Water is an excellent film. For fans of Guillermo Del Toro, this is a must see. And this 4k Blu Ray is an excellent release of the film. The film looks great in 4k.

I love when a director wears his or her's influences on their sleeves and Guillermo del Toro does so very much with this film. He makes the film absolutely enchanting by throwing us back into the hey-days of the 40's and 50's, on display are teal Cadillac's, the screens show us black and white movies , and the musical elements of yesteryears is ever present. These little touches and details immersed me in a rich and wonderful world and prepared me for a great story that plays out just like a fairy-tale. Now let’s talk performances, Sally Hawkins is phenomenal as the mute janitor. Her character of Elisa is charming and becomes more self-assured as the movie progresses. There’s a scene where she just stares down Michael Shannon’s character and it’s electrifying! Speaking of Mr. Shannon, he plays the ever angry Colonel Richard Strickland with such bravado that his presence on screen is always captivating. The rest of the supporting players are all committed: Richard Jenkins, Octavia Spencer and Michael Stuhlbarg are giving their best. I watched “Pan’s Labyrinth” before seeing this film and I’m really glad I did. Guillermo del Toro returns to fine form with “The Shape of Water” that effectively echoes the texture, mood and style of his 2006 gem, "Pan's Labyrinth." Lastly, nods to Dan Laustsen, the cinematographer of “The Shape of Water”, who might actually beat out Roger Deakins (Blade Runner 2049) for the Oscar. Also wothy of recognition is Alexandre Desplat, who gives us the score for the film that takes us back in time too. This also happens to be one the best UHD discs of all time. It’s gorgeous.

If you like unusual story lines - Sci fi with a mix of contemporary, and controversial themes, this will not disappoint. Seductive right up till the last moment...

This 4K release is so beautiful The films visuals are a sight to behold, there’s no wonder the director also won the movie of the year Academy award for with this film.

They are definitely different, at times slow, but the overall movie, story and cinematography just keeps me captivated and wanting to know what is going to happen next.
