Maybe the best show in the history of television. That’s why I thought upgrading my DVD copies was worthwhile. The hype is legit. You’re not going to get blown away by action and violence every single episode. It’s much more about getting you in the shoes of people you might not be able to empathize with otherwise. The black-and-white world right-wrong, good-bad is quickly blended to a very honest world of gray.

This series looks at the narcotics scene in Baltimore through the eyes of law enforcers as well as the drug dealers and users. Other facets of the city that are explored in the series are the government and bureaucracy, schools and the news media. The show was created by former police reporter David Simon, who also wrote many of the episodes.

This is a great series and I don't think I need to rehash how awesome it is, as such I'll simply review the blu-ray collection as it stands. It comes well packaged with a nice slipcover and each volume is in its own individual case. The quality is great and if you didn't know that it wasn't originally shown/shot in 16x9, you wouldn't think otherwise. Great show and collection, I highly recommend it to all fans of the show.

I’ve been waiting a while to see this series… so when I saw it at a discounted price I had to pounce on it quickly. I still enjoy seeing movies and series though DVD’s and Blu-ray so I’m excited about watching what some critics have called the best dram in the history of television. Bold words I know.

I became a fan of The Wire after watching it on DVD. I remember the old format aspect ratio (those black bars on the sides, ugh) and the ugly DVD compression distracting me. Luckily, and believe the hype, it is one of the best television shows ever written, so I was able to look past all that. This is not pan-n-scan, not letterboxed, and fully HD. This is how it should have been.

Wow. This show is incredible. Took me maybe a few episodes to really get into on this initial viewing, but wow. One of the smartest shows you can watch. The blu rays look incredible too and are a nice treat on my rewatch. If you haven't seen this show yet, and are considering buying this set because you're a collector, do it!

I missed out on Black Friday as it sold out of copies while I was placing the order online; it was $49 at the time so I wasn't shocked. I randomly checked the site two weeks ago and it was $69 so there wasn't any hesitation to make the purchase. If it's not the best show in the history of television it's firmly in the top-three or the list is invalid.

One of the best shows of all-time in my opinion. Watched this show in its entirety multiple times and had to make sure to get the complete series in order to watch without the dependency on a streaming service.

I've been hearing how good this show was, and saw the box set on sale for a ridiculously low price (thanks, Best Buy!). And...it lives up to the hype. It's more of an achievement than a television show, to be honest. Not for the faint of heart or those that don't like a certain amount of 'graphic' content. But a definite must-see show. In my opinion, that is.

This show is a classic! I didn't have cable back then, so i missed out on this classic. I used to hear people talking about this show all the time, but never got a chance to see it. I just watched the first season, and im hooked!

Really, when it comes to best series ever, this should be up there with Sopranos, Breaking Bad, etc. The acting, writing, drama and action are all top notch. Perhaps the technology is a little dated today, but otherwise, this show is flawless. Great release too. Nice price and gotta love getting the digital copy.

Watching this in 2018 many years after its release, The Wire has lost nothing. I've honestly never seen a better drama - it's completely engaging, well-written, well-acted - addictive to a fault. The Blu-Ray set casts to the screen in full 16:9, with beautiful image quality. Highly recommended.

I purchased this set as a Christmas present for my dad. He and I love the series and he wanted it, but the price was too high ($149). Luckily Best Buy price matches and I was able to get it for him at a more affordable price. He's very happy with his gift and I'm happy with the experience I had at the store.

While the set may not be perfect the new AR compliments the show well and the HD upgrade is very strong. All previous extras included (Prequel Shorts also get the HD 16:9 treatment) as well as some newer ones. Recommended for fans and newcomers.

The Wire happens to be one of the best TV series off all-time. The HBO TV series lasted not one, not two, not three and not four seasons. It lasted five seasons! That says a lot. The Wire is definitely worth owning.

This is one the best show ever seen on TV, if you hand't have the time to watch, you must do it. You will enjoy from 1st to 5th episode. Nothing like you watch at home anytime you want without interruption, because the most you watch, the most you like it.

i havent finished the show yet but man it is engaging, more than i thought it would've been! i went in not knowing anything about this and i am glad i did because it was a surprise and you guys should go in as well

The brilliant integration of plots and storylines between police officers/detectives roles, operations centers, and the criminal element is a feast for the eyes. Incredible acting, cinematography, and pacing keeps the viewer riveted to the action on the screen.

Natural acting, in depth look at the drug inflicted city of Baltimore and how it affects every aspect of life in a day as citizen of Baltimore. Gritty crime story of inner city crime keeps you suspensful. I enjoy every season of the this classic series.

Captivating. Honest. Intelligent. The storytelling in this real world drama will continue to stand the test of time and HBO has done a brilliant job in transferring this important production to Blu-ray. It looks wonderful and sounds great.
