The Witch is the latest addition to a strong pack of modern horror movies (The Babadook, It Follows, etc.) This one is quite a bit slower paced than I expected, builds up dread and nagging questions in your head for almost all of its running time. I thought it could've ended stronger, or at least earlier, but don't let that stop you from watching it

The Witch is a very very interesting tale of a family degenerating into total madness....I will warn you from the beginning all of the dialogue is in period english an may be a bit hard to understand...so the captions help a lot. The movie is well acted and the story is very good.

One of the most underrated horror films of the last decade. Dark, desolate and emotionally unnerving. Beautifully shot and acted! This was the launching pad for Anya Taylor Joy and man did she deliver! Everyone in the cast absolutely nailed their performances! This film delivers on every level and leaves you feeling completely warped!

    Slow & Creepy

Amazing how a director can create such a creepy atmosphere by showing less. This low budget movie saves the best for last (the ending). A story about a family a few hundred years ago who are expelled from their village for not following the church protocol according to the village elders. This family has it's own ideas on how to pray & what to believe in. They end up starting a new farm miles away. The younger siblings become hysterical & believe that their older sister is a witch. Their parents in turn also believe this & begin to shun the older daughter. This is only part of the story. I don't want to give too much away. The whole movie is a slow buildup to the shocking ending. Reminds me of "10 Cloverleaf Lane". Same slow buildup to a shocking ending.

This movies trailer was beyond creepy. Loved the plot and time period. Based before the Salem Witch trials. As the story develops you will be shocked even more as the story goes on. Acting is great and plot is fine. Stephen King himself said this film creeps him out. That says a lot from the master of horror himself!

This was, without a doubt, a very creepy movie, made difficult to understand by the choice of dialog (thee's & thou's) and in the voices used with the dialog (father in particular). I guess I could've enabled captions but I hate reading captions and missing the movie. Not a bad movie by any stretch, hence my 4 stars.

My appreciation for this film was clouded by pre-release hype and a lousy audience, so my recommendation is to go in with an open mind and expect A24's usual art-first-genre-second MO. That's a pretty good MO anyway. I didn't find The Witch particularly scary, but it's certainly dreadful. You know, in a good way.

Hi there! This Blu-ray is a great product. It comes with a digital copy so you can scare the heck out of your friends anywhere. The plot is good and the ending is crazy and scary. A Northeastern folktale about a family who strikes out on the own, after running into trouble with their religious sympathizers.

Slow atmospheric telling of a withdrawn family succumbing to the worst of their religious beliefs. Strong acting by all, especially young Harvey Scrimshaw who has a bravura scene. Not for everyone. Those looking for gore, loud bursts of fright and violence will be disappointed. Very well made, haunting little film.

One of the better n more disturbing scary movies I've seen...throw out the Hollywood garbage and affects and just b ready to b scared and disturbed by this epic account of early life in America where u really had to b scared of what was hiding in the woods, the scene with the newborn still disturbs me to this day

If you're looking for jump scares or straight up slasher horror, then this isn't your kind of movie. Instead this movie was more of a slow-burn, suspense and tension type of horror. Yes, there are some unsettling scenes or graphic images but for the most part the horror is in the setting and tone of the movie.

An overall sense of gloom & doom with this one - nothing terrifying to speak of, but it's the atmosphere that acts as this film's saving grace.

I love Horror Movies, This scared me which is saying something! The thrill always is more powerful when it is simply suggested terror. The superstitions of the past always fascinated me. I recommend owning this movie and seeing more than once.

If you can handle a slow burning horror film that serves more as a folk tale, this is the movie for you. Things slowly unfold as the atmosphere gets more intense. Which all boil down to a shocking twist in the end. This was one of the best horror/thrillers to come out this year. I highly recommend it.

This was scary. But not in a jump out of a closet with a loud surge of music accompanying it way. More in a slow, twisting insect that gets under your skin and you don't know it until too late. Good stuff. Very slow at times though. If you don't have patience with methodically paced stories, skip it.

I watched this one in theaters, and I enjoyed it. Most other people in the theater did not, they didn't like it overall. This movie is meant to be a retelling of an event that "really happened" all those years ago. Based on this I went in expecting exactly what I got and enjoyed it, enough to buy it.
