The 4K HDR transfer is excellent but we it really shines is the Atmos being so accurate! All the helicopters scenes were so realistic hovering over you. It’s a reference material when showing off your height channels. Slipcover included. My only complaint is that digital copy was not offered.

A gem of a Sci-Fi action movie. Piper is King with Keith David in this unmasking of Alien proportion conspiracy and control. Looks beautiful in 4K and the commentary with Piper and Carpenter is gold. Highly recommended.

At this point, what more can be said about "They Live" that hasn't already been said or praised? If you love '80s horror/sci-fi and/or John Carpenter films, then this one is almost assuredly a classic for you and a movie you've seen countless times. You probably even already own Scream Factory's collector's edition Blu-ray. The question is: Is this 4K edition really worth the upgrade? YES! 100% absolutely yes! This will probably be the best this movie will ever look and sound. I know that phrase is probably trite and cliche at this point, but it's also very accurate. I would say this transfer makes the movie look better than 4K transfers from movies that are only 10 years old or less. The level of visible detail is astonishing, and the HDR grading really brings out the bright whites. The Atmos track is very engaging and active (even if, at times, a bit TOO gimmicky), and the bass definitely brings a hefty punch at times. In terms of special features, you're only getting the same ones ported over from the previous Collector's Edition, so no change there. This is purely an A/V upgrade, but it's a worthwhile upgrade nonetheless.

The new rendering of They Live is truly amazing! The color and detail are stunning. The sound was also clear. John Carpenter was truly a professional genius. The story was still fresh and has aged well over the decades. The actors did a great job. It is also topical and relevant to today: It is a reasonable extrapolation of what would happen if some tyrants took over and there was a divide between the elite and the average person. The creators certainly knew human nature and did a good job putting together an excellent story. I've only seen it before on TV and not in the movie theaters, so there is no way to compare the experience to the release in the theaters in 1988, but I would say that this was an outstanding improvement over the TV presentation. It is well worth the purchase for those who enjoy the type of story and have access to seeing it in 4K.

I’m here to kick butt and chew bubble gum and I’m all out of gum. We start out as slow as the hero is just looking for work but it picks uf fast when he comes across a pair of glasses that shows he’s surrounded by aliens posing as human that have enslaved the human race. With the late great Roddy Piper as the drifter who falls into this madness and decides to take no prisoners and wreck havoc on his way to the truth of how and why people couldn’t see them and the signs of obedience before.

John Carpenter needs no introduction. From his horror classics like Halloween or The Thing, through futuristic (for its time) action works like Escape from New York, he is an accomplished storyteller. They Live! may not be an entirely serious film. It is layered with corny one-liners and campy atmosphere. Nevertheless, it also stresses the importance of our own thoughts, encouraging us to prioritize them over conformity promoted by the media. Although not as grand as some of Carpenter's other works, it remains a worthy addition to his filmography. The Shout! Collector's Edition offers a decent amount if engaging and interesting extra bonus features. Pick it up... but make sure to make up your own mind about it!
