it's OK to test or to use as a spare for emergencies, but the Ting fees seemed high to me

I’m a traveler and I cannot activate this even if it comes with “ $30 credits” because it wanted me to enter a US credit card. I wish it had a warning in the description. I even got with their customer service, but that didn’t help.

Ting is a horrible company. Their sales pitch is simplicity. Their demographic is older people so they can rip them off by providing extremely poor service at a premium price and demanding payment first. They should not be allowed to do business. They don't make it easy for their demographic to switch either.

Used this for my kids during their school time last year. Now that they're not using it anymore, i observed they charge extra aside of the monthly charges.

Ting is a great Gem of a wireless provider.

I have had two family phones on Ting for 4 months now. I am extremely happy with the quality of service, transfer process, variable scalable rates, pay only for what you use, BYO Device options, CDMA & GSM devices available, App and Web control of your usage and features works great and their customer service is amazing. I recommend this wireless provider for anyone who wants the ultimate in scalability at a more than competitive price structure. Quality of service on both Carrier types is excellent. All the features of the “big carriers” at a fraction of the cost.

Good value for light to moderate users

I've been on Ting for a couple of years now. They provide good value for relatively light use customers, which I am. It's even better if you have multiple lines since the lines share "buckets" of calls, texts, and data. They let you choose between CDMA (which uses Sprint) and GSM (which uses t-mobile) so if this GSM SIM doesn't work out, and your phone can handle CDMA, you can switch networks (you'll need to get a new SIM from them, though).
The thing that really distinguishes them is their customer service. It's responsive and the representatives have been given enough flexibility to actually solve problems. They also seem to try not to keep secrets--they'll tell you all kinds of behind the scenes details if you ask. Ting is perhaps not the absolute cheapest MVNO these days, but I've been quite willing to pay a bit extra just for the service.
