    A great product...if it works.

First, this is a fine product that does what it is intended to do, which is stream video to your iPad or iPhone ( no android support yet) as long as you are on the same wifi network. (You also need the free tivo app for it to work) This works completely seamlessly, and setup was dead simple. You do need a wired Ethernet or MOCA connection though, so be warned. I have it plugged directly into the cable modem/router. It also allows downloading of shows from your tivo to your idevice for later watching while not connected to your wifi, with a huge caveat...your cable provider must allow copying of their shows. So as a Time Warner Cable customer, I cannot download the vast majority of shows that I have recorded. So if your main purpose in buying this product is so that you can take your shows with you, and you have TWC, STAY AWAY. At least for now. The other caveat I have is that there must be some initial product run problems. I am actually on my 4th Stream now. The first three were DOA. Seems to be a known problem on the forums. Props to Best Buy customer service, as they gave me no hassle even after the third exchange. Last potential issue. It does have a cooling fan as it does get quite warm during operation (up to 60C so far), and for a small box it can make a bit of noise. So don't expect a device as quiet as say an Apple TV. So in summary, if you are a tivo fan, you have idevices at home, and you live close to a best buy so you can exchange it for a working one, there is no better way to watch your tivo without a tv.

Great device for viewing programs at home

The ability to watch tv in the garage, outside and anywhere around home is wonderful. i also download shows to my Ipad so I can watch them on the road. the ability to store tv shows for my upcoming 17 day trip to South Africa makes this device invaluable. I have downloaded 50 TV shows to my Ipad for the trip. Shows eat up a l;ot of space. I had to purchase a 64gb Ipad to maintain all of my shows. I have had to reset the stream twice due to hiccups.

An easy way to view and download TiVo content!

I wanted to be able to watch TiVo recorded shows on my iPad anywhere in my house. It works exactly as advertised. It was simple to install and the set up was completed automatically by the TiVo app. Before I installed it, I was worried that the video quality would not be good, but the picture looks great on my iPad 3. The ability to download shows to my iPad directly (without having to use TiVo Desktop) is a nice added bonus.

    Great for iPhone/iPad

The Tivo Stream is a great device for moving shows directly from your Tivo to an iPad or iPhone. This keeps you from having to download content to your computer... transcode it to a iPhone/iPad codec... move shows to iTunes and then syncing the devices. Instead... you can wirelessly move shows directly to your device via WIFI --- MAJOR timesaver! It works like a charm except for occasionally having to re-establish a connection (which is a minor inconvenience at worst).

Expensive, but works well - with limitations

    Posted .

Between downloading an initial software update and activating, it took over 45 minutes (!) - and this is with a 30 Mbps broadband connection. I don't understand why the setup procedure must take so long. It's easy, just time consuming. I was a bit unclear on how the live streaming would play out, but I was disappointed to discover that in order to display "live tv", the show must actually start recording. Live streaming will stop when the current program recording ends, so you can't watch live TV continuously. If you have a extra tuner that isn't recording, then it's no big deal, but you'll end up with a bunch of recordings that you have to turn around and delete. I haven't tried transferring any recordings to my iPhone yet since I bought this primarily to watch live TV and recorded shows on my iPhone. One other disappointment is that it has a small cooling fan inside that runs even when the unit isn't streaming. It's not very loud, but being a mechanical device it increases the chances it will fail sooner than if the device relied on natural convection for cooling.

Cool Tivo add-on, but major flaw

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought the Tivo Stream to copy shows to my iPad and watch them at my girlfriends house. It worked ok, but the speed to copy was so slow. Streaming didn't work too well either. It turns out the Tivo Stream needs the Tivo box to be connected to the network via something other than WiFi otherwise the performance is terrible. Even with the Tivo Stream on gigabit ethernet, it didn't help because the bottleneck was the Tivo box itself. If you have the right setup for it, it's a great addition to your Tivo ecosystem.

    Life Changing!

The main reason I purchased the TiVo Stream was to be able to take my recorded tv shows with me on vacation on my iPad. The TiVo Stream does this and more! I love being able to sit outside on my deck and stream shows from my TiVo in the living room. I have Comcast (Xfinity) Performance Internet and I have not experienced any issues with streaming at all. Downloading a 30 minute show to my iPad takes about 15 minutes and the video quality on both of these features is great! I really couldn't be more pleased. There were disclaimers on the TiVo site saying that some shows are copy-protected and couldn't be streamed, however, I have yet to find something I can't download or stream. The only negatives I can think of are that initially I had a little trouble after downloading 1 or 2 shows. On the second or third show, the Stream seemingly bogged down to a snail's pace and I would have to re-start it. That was within the first week or so and I haven't experienced this issue again. Also, it is worth noting that many people (or maybe just me) have their TiVo hooked-up wirelessly to their network. The Stream must be wired to your TiVo and the TiVo itself must be WIRED to your network. An easy enough fix because I just purchased a second Apple AirPort Express and put it right next to my TiVo. However, for me, this added to the cost. Trust me though, for the convenience, ease-of-use, features and quality, it was totally worth it. Plus, it extended my network within my house which is never a bad thing. I highly recommend the TiVo Stream!

Doesn't work on playback, stumped Tivo support

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Great idea in theory, but found a bug which has stumped Tivo support. Downloaded many shows, but nearly 50% of them stop playing at random spots and say "Finished", as if it thinks the video is at the end, but it is not. This happens when fast forwarding to random point in the video, or simply when viewing playback, at random points in the video. Contacted Tivo technical support and I have them stumped. They supposedly sent the case over to their developers, but no response in 3 weeks. Others on the Internet are having same issue. I took original back to Best Buy and swapped it for another brand new one, same issue exists; about half of all downloaded videos stop working during playback. Kinda pointless with this bug. Other issue is that many, many shows I watch are apparently copyrighted and using digital rights management which prevents them from being available to copy to iPad for offline viewing. Again, kind of pointless device for many shows.

    Did not work for me

I was excited about this device. I couldn't wait to install it. But then I found several problems. Even though device was hooked to same switch as my wireless AP some devices could see it and some couldn't. Called tech support but they were not much help. When I did get it to work the performance wasn't the greatest either for me. This could have been an issue with my wireless in my house but the DVR, STREAM, and Wireless AP were all in the same room. But the biggest thing I did not like was turning my four tuner DVR into a three tuner DVR. One of the tuners has to be dedicated to the Stream, even when it is NOT IN USE. This is unacceptable to me who records many shows. It would be fine if it made a tuner unavailable WHILE YOU WERE WATCHING, but that's not how they have it working.

I picked this up at my local Best Buy for 84.99 on clearance! It took 24 hours for the stream box to sync up with my TiVo. TiVo Customer service confirmed this common. After the set up completed, it works fantastic! I can't wait until TiVo pushes the update to allow live streaming from any WiFi network, not just my home WiFi!

I had the software for first putting shows on my PC then transferring them. But it was a lot of steps and so many shows weren't allowed to be transferred. But the Stream solved all the problems I had. I like it very much. Like all the products from Tivo I have..and I especially like the customer service.

Purchased the Tivo Stream, Set up was extremely easy. You must activate it on your account on Tivo.com. When installing, software update took around 10-15 min and finding activation on Tivo.com an additional 10 minutes. Overall, up and running in 30 minutes. I use this product with my IPAD 1. I take it to my basement and set it on my treadmill as i workout. Easy to watch a recorded Tivo show or live TV. I will be able to take it outside this summer when I am grilling out. Also awesome to watch a live sports program while I am watching another show on the big screen. Cost was kind of steep but worth it in my opinion. I ordered on a Monday and it was set up by 1:30 on Wednesday.

Perfect marriage of TiVo and Apple Technology!

Even tho I have huge HD TVs there are often times I want to either watch somewhere there's no TV or I want to take the show I'm watching with me as I move around the house. I bought it because I love TiVo (since 1997) and iPad and iPhone too! Together? Perfection! AND...Since I already had AppleTV (my other little black box sitting atop the Tivo Premiere), I can do the reverse, and display my iPad/iPhone on the TV!

Fantastic Add for TiVo Premier Owners

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This was a great add for my "extra" TV (the old one that I hadn't bothered to get a digital cable adapter to connect. If you've bought into the TiVo ecosystem, and you have a TV that doesn't have a TiVo, this is an easy win. The only challenge is that you have to have a wired network in your house or you have to add a MoCA adapter. If you can get a physical network cable from your router/switch to the TiVo mini (and your main TiVo), things just work better. For me, that was easy because I pre-wired the house with Ethernet cable. As long as you've got that, you're good to go.

I spoke with TiVo and they are working on supporting the TiVo Stream with Android devices. I have an iPad 3 and the TiVo Stream works great with it. It is a great way to load up my iPad to watch my TV shows on the road. I can't wait to be able to do this also on my Android-based mobile phone.

Would be great if it supported Apple TV mirroring

Unless Tivo decides to have it work with Android and Apple TV or at least not block mirroring to Apple TV, I wouldn't recommend it at half the price. For some people it might be just what they are looking for, but without the Apple TV capability it doesn't suit me. Very disappointing.

I wanted to have some more flexibility in how I watch my shows. In the summer I want to be outside as much as possible and into the evenings. However, sometimes I get tired of reading and just want to watch some TV. Now I can still be outside and watch newly recorded shows any time I want. Absolutely love it!!!
