I have an old GPS watch and it was time for an upgrade so I decided to buy this one. I have been on three runs now and really like it. It is accurate and finds the GPS signal very quickly. I love how when you get back home you can sync it with your phone or computer and see your stats plus the map of your run. Very glad I purchased this. Had originally purchased the one with small band but returned it for this one with the larger band.

Too Good to be True

I really wanted this watch to replace my iphone and heart rate polar watch for my training runs, half marathons, swimming (never with the iphone obviously) , and biking. But it was too good to be true. The heart rate monitor that is built in is off by 30 to 40 beats. Not even close. I wore both the TomTom watch and my Polar FT7 with chest strap to compare. In the lower zones, they were close, but when spiking the heart rate, the TomTom would read that my heart was at 130 when it was really around 160. So what is the point of relying on the Tomtom Heart rate function? Because I wanted this watch to work so bad, I purchased an external Polar H7 (Bluetooth) chest strap that is compatible with the Spark Watch. It will connect, but it won't stay connected for long. Maybe 5 to 10 minutes, then the connection quits. I was 6 minutes into a 13.1 mile run when I had no idea where my heart rate was at. Do you want that? I called customer service and they recommend a factory reset - didn't work. I'm taking this watch back. I used the watch to lap swim - it didn't accurately count my laps. I even reduced the lap length setting in the watch from 25 yards to 24 yards to maybe trick the watch and get an accurate count. No dice! I am doing P90X3 right now and the heart rate is not even close when working out. Similar to the above heart rate deltas. The music connection to my blue tooth jay birds works, but I didn't buy this watch to be just an MP3 player. At the end of the day, if I go on a run, I will still need to wear a separate heart rate monitor and watch, so what is the point in wearing 2 watches. What this watch offers is just too good to be true....it doesn't do everything it claims. Boooooo.

Hello,
I'm sorry to read that the Spark Cardio + Music did not meet your expectations and that you decided to return it. We are constantly trying to improve the watch so we value the feedback we get from our customers; yours will be shared internally to the relevant teams. For the benefit of other customers, I'd like to address some of the concerns you've raised.
Regarding the build in HRM – The watch uses the reflection of light to track you heartbeat per minute. This means that the way you wear the watch could influence the performance of the HRM. You can find illustrations and detailed explanation on how to wear the watch to ensure good performance here http://bit.ly/1IJscdn. Regarding the swimming feature - we have released a number of software updates to improve the accuracy of the swimming function on the Spark watches and this has increased accuracy to appropriate levels for the majority of users. However we are working on improving this function to make sure that all users get the desired results. Please make sure your watch is up to date in order to take advantage of the improvements in the software.
Again, I'm sorry you've had a frustrating experience with your watch. If you haven't yet returned your watch, I hope these tips help improve your experience. Thank you.

Poor connectivity

I chose the Spark so because of the music player so I could leave my iPod behind. I bought Bose's new Bluetooth headphones to pair with the watch and right out of the box they connected easily, but since then it's been a different story. Nothing is more aggravating than standing on the trail ready to go and your device won't pair. Back to the car to get my iPod and wired headphones. Same story when it is time to connect the watch to my phone to download my runs, it won't pair. Have to forget and re-pair every time. If there was another music playing GPS watch available I would have already returned this one. As a pure fitness tracker, connectivity aside, I like it a lot. Have used for runs, kayaking, hiking and gym workouts.
