Thank you for the review, LouLou, and sorry to hear that you had some sort of performance issue with your Satellite C55DT.
I understand that you already returned the product but, for future reference, Windows Update often has many updates to download & install on brand new systems. When that's the case it will tax initial performance until updates are completed.
Thanks again for the feedback.

If you're looking for a high end super PC then look elsewhere. This PC is perfect for someone looking for a reliable touchscreen PC that can handle applications with ease.
I use MS Office, watch Netflix, and surf the net with zero issues. You also would be hard pressed to match the amount of RAM, Hard drive etc., for the price.
I gave it 4 stars not 5 because the touch pad could be a bit better but more importantly the WiFi seems to disconnect sometimes for no reason occasionally.

I got this just yesterday and it's the worst laptop I've ever used. The plastic is cheap and scratchy, there are round circles poking out of the bottom, Google Chrome keeps crashing, the internet is slow as dirt. Also, why is the mouse pad not centered? I'm already so annoyed that I'm taking this piece of junk back tomorrow.

Thank you for the review, Jazz, and sorry to hear that you're not fully satisfied with you Satellite C55D
I wonder if Windows Update has been busy downloading & installing updates. That's typically the case with brand new systems, and if so it will tax initial performance until the updating process is completed.
Of course, the perceived speed & responsiveness of any PC will depend somewhat on the number of programs and processes currently running on the unit at any point in time, and their respective demands on various components, subsystems, and networking resources. Rebooting Windows and then checking performance after loading each individual app is one way to determine when the resource load begins to impact performance, and which apps most impact performance.
I'm not sure what you're seeing with regards to round circles poking out of the bottom. You may want to visit one of our social support platforms where you can post a photo along with your questions: facebook.com/ToshibaUSA (send a private Message to the Page to post a picture), twitter.com/ToshibaUSAhelp, or forums.toshiba.com.
I recommend reinstalling Chrome to see if that clears up the crashing problem, since it's apparently a new installation and isn't working properly.
Finally, regarding the position of the touchpad, it's always centered under the "home" keys of the keyboard (F & J), which is where touch typists normally rest their index fingers. For models with a numeric keypad to the right of the keyboard, that will make the touchpad left of center in reference to the overall laptop but still centered under the main keyboard.
Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the difficulty.

Good Laptop

The laptop runs fine. My only complaint is it's the worst touch pad I've ever used. It constantly freezes and takes time to recover. From what I've been able to find is it's a feature to help reduce the cursor from being moved while typing. While it's a great idea it's poorly implemented. It often freezes when not even using the keyboard and when typing it still moves the cursor. I have not found a way to disable it. Other than that it works great. If Toshiba comes up with a fix for this issue I will change my review. Until then I can't recommend it to someone because it's very unproductive waiting for a cursor to start moving again.

Physical keyboard freezes, runs slow when it does work. Virtual keyboard is not very responsive. Would not recommend to anyone. Please spend a little more for a better product. I am outside the timeframe to return and I have used this computer for a total of maybe 10 hours; have all the updates running as needed. Still a piece of junk.

Thank you for the review, Jen1976, and sorry to hear about the keyboard (physical & virtual) trouble that you're experiencing.
I wonder if the keyboard freezing you mention requires a reboot or if these are momentary freezes which resolve themselves. If the latter, slight delays can sometimes be caused by an application or service being prioritized above user inputs.
If it's a more severe problem, I recommend contacting Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 for troubleshooting help and, if needed, to make warranty repair arrangements.
Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble.

My new Toshiba laptop has bit the dust, I took it to a local repair shop and the technician said the motherboard had gone bad, that visit cost me $25. Being that it's less then a year old I called Toshiba to see about getting it repaired, I was helped by an individual that spoke very poor English, I spent a lot of time asking him to repeat what he said over and over. He said it could be fixed if I paid $29.95 shipping to have it sent back to me and I would be getting a phone call and email from them with instructions on what to do, I'm still waiting to hear from Toshiba how to send this @!$* computer back to be fixed. Don't waste your money on this laptop.

Thank you for the review, Kwhiteha. Sorry to hear about the trouble with your Satellite P55W-C5316-4K and the missing follow up.
The confirmation email would normally provide a link to an online form used to initiate the repair process. I recommend checking any spam or junk folders provided by your email provider in case it was redirected there instead of being put in your inbox.
If you don't find it there please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 to follow up.
Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the trouble.
