Excellent value for the money. Very easy to use. Saves all my VHS tapes to DVD. The only problems I have run across is that you need a lot of DVD's to copy one VHS tape and I can't buy a Mini HDMI to DVI cable to connect my Sony camcorder directly to this Toshiba burner. I was told after the fact that they no longer make or sell this type of cable.

My wonderful Sony VCR player bit the dust and could not be repaired. I purchased this combo which plays VCR's and DVD's fine. It also has a very easy to use dubbing (VCR to DVD) facility but it won't dub copy-protected VHS tapes without special equipment. An added bonus is that DV tapes from my Canon camcorder could be transferred to DVD without much effort. All DVD's I created so far on this combo worked fine on home DVD players as long as the DVD was finalized. The manual is thorough and the build quality is decent for its price. Thus, if you have a worthwhile collection of VHS tapes or plan to write DVD's, this is a good piece of equipment to own.

The reason for my purchase was to transfer VCR recordings to DVD. Also my DVD player that I have had for year stopped working so with this unit I cannot only take care of my recordings but also watch my DVD movies.

We had made movies of our children for 35 years and the VHS tapes tend to fade over time. We wanted to preserve them and put them on DVD's. This product is fairly simple to operate and make the process possible.

Without an RF coax input or output, it doesn't hookup to older TV's very well. It does hookup to newer sets easily. Someone said it didn't hookup to record from Direct TV - It does, and it's very simple (Component Out from Direct TV to L1 Component In on the DVR --- select Input = L1 for the DVR to see the signal). The DVR doesn't have a built in tuner. It expects to get any signals from a cable box or satellite box. You can record TV programs by using the built in recording timer, you just have to have the cable/satellite box on and set to the channel you want to record.

This DVD VHS player recorder is easy to use. It has good quality functions. It has many features that make this product a great purchase.

This vhs/DVDs player is perfect for my husband and me. Does what you want w/o unnecessary bells and whistles. Let's hope they keep making this machine for many years!

This played my very old VHS tapes pretty well, even though the quality of the tapes have deteriorated. I'm so glad I was able to find a player that wouldn't destroy and eat up my old tapes. Now, I'm gonna try to record what I can of my old memories. Easy to use and navigate. Only thing it may lack are video/audio/aux inputs in the front so I can add other devices to run through this easier....kind of like my old one use to do. I would have given it 5 stars then.

This DVD recorder is a great way to archive VHS tapes. When you have the finished DVD product playing on your new gigantic flat screen TV even your 30 plus year old kids will want to watch every minute of themselves when they were four years old. Use the auto chapter feature to skip the boring stuff or go back to watch the zany antics twice!

We are happy with our purchase- it wasn't quite as easy to set up initially as I thought it would be- but that's more to blame on me than the product. The quality of the recording is actually a little better than I thought it would be. Thank you!

This was one of two combo recorders that I considered. I chose this one because it had better ratings and seemed to be of better quality. It was fairly easy to set up but I am somewhat skilled in that area. I have had a problem with it stopping after about 2 hours of recording on a 3 hour movie even though I have it set to record on the longest play setting (which is almost 5 hours). The picture is good and the quality seems to be there except for the length of play.

The recorder works okay and records from a VCR to a DVD and vice versa, but it does not record from the television without special equipment. This information should be displayed so that the purchaser will know what they are getting.

This recorder requires an outside tuner. Titles must be added manually after the recording is completed. Indication of the amount of space left on a partially recorded disk is inconvenient. It does not appear possible to change the default recording speed although you can manually select other speeds.

We like being able to watch VCRS or DVDs and transfer VCRS to DVDs. Good quality pictures.

This system is one of the very few VCR-DVR combos still available, and it does an adequate job of recording in both formats, but I got it mainly to convert my old VHS collection to DVDs. The process is relatively simple, but I do need to keep the manual handy. The system lacks a tuner, so it needs to be attached to one; I use my cable tuner. Durability is a concern; the VHS drive has failed on two previous versions of this combo I've used, and because of that experience I purchased the Geek Squad service for this unit. Because combos like this are hard to find, I decided to go with this unit, which other than the durability issue satisfactorily did the job I wanted it to.

We looked everywhere for this device to replace one that quit working. Finally, we found this one. We wanted to burn DVDs of recordings from our dvr to watch again. So far, we are pleased and would recommend this device to anyone who might want to save their recordings in dvd format rather than vhs tapes.
