Thank you for the review, Seth.

A 1-star rating will be understood by others to mean that you experienced some kind of serious problem with the product.

Please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 if you're experiencing a problem or if there's anything you need help.

If that's not the case, please consider changing your star rating to match your level of satisfaction with your Satellite C55DT.

Thank you for the review, Nitika, and sorry to hear about the touchpad problem on your Satellite C55DT-B5205.

The touchpad can be toggled ON and OFF by using the 'F5' function key. If F5 was inadvertently pressed, the touchpad is effective disabled until it is pressed again.

If pressing F5 doesn't resolve the problem I recommend reinstalling (or upgrading, if available) the touchpad driver, which is available at support.toshiba.com. If the problem persists, the next step I recommend is performing a Windows Reset to restore the laptop to its factory settings. This will eliminate any problem introduced by software or configuration changes.

The Toshiba Forums community knowledge base article at forums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/How-To-Understanding-System-Restore-Refresh-Reset-and-Recovery/ta-p/342690 has more details and step-by-step instructions for the Windows Reset process.

Should you need further assistance, please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777.

Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba

I ordered this laptop online and then stopped by the store to take a look. The Best Buy salesman said the machine was very outdated and wouldn't last more than 3-4 months. I then checked the online reviews and found that multiple customers had serious concerns. After it was delivered, I returned it to the store without even opening it.

Thank you for sharing, leafsong, but it's very unusual to see a review posted for a model which the reviewer admits to having never used. I think it's important to note that, unlike what you were apparently told, this model is not "outdated" and that it comes with a 1-year warranty, so the assertion given to you that it "wouldn't last more than 3-4 months" is nonsense.

No given unit of an electronic product is perfect but I'm noting that, as of 8/25/15, this model has 43 reviews posted with an average star rating of 4.1 and that 84% of the reviewers would recommend this model to a friend. That's a pretty strong record.

Thank you for the feedback and sorry that you got some bad information. Toshiba

Due to problems with my old mobile hotspot I haven't been able to do all of proper set up for it. Purchased a new hotspot from bestbuy on 19 Aug 2015. For some reason the load out of data time, done in store, did not take. So I still can't finish set up on the laptop. Hate that I've spent so much money for so little return so far.

Better Than You Could Expect :)

Ignore all the reviews about how slow or poor quality this computer is. I've been using it for almost a week now, non-stop, and it's been such a great little sidekick. Let's start off with the slow-ness people are complaining about. This computer comes with a lot, and I mean A LOT of bloatware. This is useless, random programs that Toshiba was probably paid to have pre-installed. I'm talking stupid computer games, third party photo editors, blah, blah, blah. I was VERY frustrated and nearly gave up on this laptop trying to uninstall all the bloatware (it took over an hour and many many restarts). JUST PUSH THROUGH IT. It's worth it. This little computer is a powerhouse. Once you get all the bloatware off, you will notice a VERY DRAMATIC AND INTENSE increase in speed. I'm not even kidding, this thing will be running like crazy once you get the useless stuff off. Install a decent, free anti-virus and you're ready to go. To put things into perspective, here is what I have been doing on this computer. Minecraft - I get 70 FPS when I run regular minecraft with no Mods and without recording. Add FRAPS, a screen recording software, and I can record gameplay with no lag, and it only drops down to 50 FPS. For a laptop of this price, that's pretty darn great. Minecraft with Mods - The heavier modpacks are a no-go. But with some light modifications to the game, adding some fun features, I can still push at 50 FPS when not recording and am always above 30 while recording. Photoshop - I use photoshop heavily. I didn't buy this computer with the intentions to run it because I knew I was buying a budge laptop, but once I saw how smoothly this thing handled Minecraft I gave it a shot. It runs Photoshop VERY well. Never crashes. I've had layers upon layers, effects upon effect, using it while running other programs. Everything that could stress a little computer like this to the point of crashing, and this laptop has been taking it like a pro. Adobe Premiere - I also intensively edit gameplay videos and animations. Again, wasn't expecting to be able to run it on this computer- but I am, and it's working very flawlessly. I will admit, there have been some times of lag. I'll press something with the touchscreen and it'll take the computer a second or two to register the action, but with what I'm running on this guy it's to be expected. I have NO CONS regarding hardware. This computer, for what your paying and getting, does AMAZING. It's the power of AMD, mixed with quality and durability of Toshiba. Reading these comments, I was expecting to get some flimsy piece of plastic trash- but this thing has a nice weight to it, it feels strong and sturdy. The screen doesn't flex at all, the keyboard doesn't dip or flex when you type. It's a GREAT machine. There are a few CONS that I will point out, but they are completely unrelated to the performance of this laptop, so if you don't care about some aesthetic flaws, click buy now. You won't regret it. CONS: 1. FIngerprints. The casing of this nice machine collect finger prints like crazy. I wipe it down often and I also use a wireless mouse, so I've gotten it under control, but if you're really going to be using this as a portable laptop with lots of moving around and closing the lid and grabbing this laptop, you'll see your fingerprints EVERYWHERE. But they come off easy :) 2. Trackpad feel - The track pad operates well, and the buttons register with a durable feel- but the texture of the track pad is a little strange. Doesn't affect productivity, as I was used to it and it no longer felt foreign within an hour, but it's a weird feeling when you first start using it. That's it! This computer is a champ. Happy I made the decision to purchase. ALSO: Upgrade to Win 10, much better and much faster than the 8 it comes pre-installed with. ALSO, ALSO: You can get 1TB of storage through OneDrive by Microsoft when you purchase this. Use it. This machine only has 500GB of internal storage. Which isn't bad, and certainly won't be used up too quickly, but take advantage of the features you are being offered :)

I am very happy with my purchase! It's en excellent price for the product. It arrived on time and was packaged very well. Setup took longer than expected, with all the Windows updates etc. I upgraded to Windows 10 right away. That seemed to take forever. But I knew it'd be worth it. (I was not about to waste time with Windows 8, lol). The touch screen is very responsive. I like having the option between that and the built-in mouse pad/keyboard. I feel that Toshiba is a reputable brand. I know a few people that have them and like them.

Slow and Not able to update

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The size and physical aspects of this computer were great. However, the computer itself was super slow. It was possibly the slowest machine I have ever used. I tried to update the computer to Windows 10, hoping that would help the machine run faster. However, the computer failed the update two times, and did not improve in speed. I returned it because I was done trying to deal with it, and I was running out of time to be able to return it by mail. I knew I wouldn't be happy with the slow speed. Also, I only use my computer for Microsoft Office work and internet surfing. So I wasn't doing too much that would require such a large memory that it would lag the computer. If you want a computer that can process anything, I don't suggest this one.

Thank you for the review, sidJ, and sorry to hear that you seem to be having general performance issues with your Satellite C55DT-B5205.

This entry-level model has an AMD A8-6410 Quad-Core APU Processor and 4GB of RAM, which should be fully capable of handling typical consumer level computing needs like email, social media, and general web browsing.

I wonder how long you've had this unit. If it's new then there's a good chance that Windows Update has been busy downloading & installing updates. That's typically the case with brand new systems, and if so it will tax initial performance until the updating process is completed.

Beyond that, the perceived speed & responsiveness of any PC will depend somewhat on the number of programs and processes currently running on the unit at any point in time, and their respective demands on various components, subsystems, and networking resources. Rebooting Windows and then checking performance after loading each individual app is one way to determine when the resource load begins to impact performance, and which apps most impact performance.

Please share a bit more detail about the nature of the trouble you're having with the touchpad. You may want to look into Windows Control Panel's Mouse app, which provides access to options for mouse/touchpad sensitivity preferences along with related functions, such as gesture controls.

As for the Internet or networking performance issue, I recommend trying a different network connection, such as a Wi-Fi hotspot in a coffee shop, to clarify whether or not the problem you're experiencing is isolated to a particular network connection, rather than the computer itself.

If the above info doesn't resolve all the issues you mentioned, I recommend performing a Windows Reset to return the laptop's software installation to factory condition. This will resolve any issues introduced by software or configuration changes. The Toshiba Forums community knowledge base article at forums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/How-To-Understanding-System-Restore-Refresh-Reset-and-Recovery/ta-p/342690 has more details and step-by-step instructions for that process.

Please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 for additional troubleshooting help, if needed.

Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba
