I wonder how long you've had this unit because if Windows Update has been busy downloading & installing updates, which is typically the case with brand new systems, it will tax initial performance until the updating process is completed.

Of course, the perceived speed & responsiveness of any PC will depend somewhat on the number of programs and processes currently running on the unit at any point in time, and their respective demands on various components, subsystems, and networking resources. Rebooting Windows and then checking performance after loading each individual app is one way to determine when the resource load begins to impact performance, and which apps most impact performance.

Please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 if, after considering the above points, you believe your Satellite C75D is not performing to its specifications.

I wonder what you mean by "software glitches" and how long you were using the system before they started occurring. The best way to determine whether or not a problem is caused by a software or configuration issue is to perform a Windows Reset, returning the product to factory condition. That process will eliminate any problem that may have been introduced by a software installation or Windows configuration changes. As you mentioned, this model does not have a backlit keyboard. While many Toshiba models do include that feature, it is always called out in the specifications when present, so if the description doesn't state that a unit has a backlit keyboard that means that it does not. Laptops, in general, do get warm or even what some might consider hot, depending on the resource demands of the applications in use and the level of performance available in the unit. It can generally be expected when running very CPU or graphics intensive applications. If some warmth is the only symptom, then you probably don't need to worry about it. On the other hand, if the laptop is uncomfortably hot to the touch then I recommend calling support at 800-457-7777 to have your concern addressed and possibly make repair arrangements. Also, to facilitate maximum air flow and cooling it is best to use the laptop on a flat, hard surface such as a table. Use on softer surfaces can result in the laptop sinking down, causing the vents to be blocked which prevents optimal air flow and can lead to overheating.
