    Brilliant Display Over 350 PPI

The displays is just WOW! It is perfect for watching hi resolution movies. The track pad is another story. The surface is a little rough and does not have the precision movement as I would like. It is however a future prove laptop with the new USB Type C port and high end specs (i7 with the new Skylake Architecture). If only the track pad was better it would have been perfect.

First, I was a littlebit concerned about the touchpad freezing issues of this laptop. However, I didnt issued anything. In addition to the buggy win10, now it works really OK. Laptop has very very high resolution thus your programs such as solidworks matlab etc you have to buy newest version or decrease your resolution. The battery life is around 4 hours in the highest brightness. If you want to increase the RAM 8gb ram to 16gb ram you need to do it at toshiba service around 50-100$. In the laptop, only the annoying part is the fan is little noticeable when it performs. I have been using similar toshiba laptop r630L i5 1st gen series for 5 years with a very high performance still working after replacing the hdd to a ssd. It is better than lower price laptops (My wife has 2 years old ASUS i5 3rd gen 256gb ssd laptop overall it is not better than my old toshiba). Overall, The problem only with the toshibas is fan noise.

I'm very happy with this machine which I bought from Best Buy. I went in to buy a different model, but this was on sale for the same price so I took a look. I'm glad I did - I would happily have paid more for the level of machine I got. (Note: the keyboard and other online reviews lured me into returning this machine for a competitor - after 24 hours I swapped back and this Toshiba is my computer for the next few years!) Pros: - Oh, wow, the screen! Bright, 4K, amazing. Just amazing. - Snappy! Compared to identically spec'ed competitor, this thing screams. I'm never waiting for anything. - Windows HELLO - I don't know why they aren't making a bigger deal out of this - looking at your computer to unlock it is very convenient and, I find, makes me just generally *like* my machine better. - Trackpad - smooth, clean, responsive. Recognized by Windows as a "Precision Trackpad" which gives more native setting options - Great port selection - "future-proof" USB C, 4k-capable HDMI, SDHC UHS-1 card slot where the card fits in flush, and 2 more USB. - Wonderfully responsive touch screen. Cons - - Less comfortable in tablet mode than others, but still very usable - Keyboard - small, slippery keys with some weird key layout choices. I'm getting used to it, but this was enough to make me try another machine. (The other was better keyboard-ed, but awful otherwise) - Battery life. Sadface on this one. 5-6 hours at most, less if you're doing heavy duty stuff. Overall, I really enjoy using this machine. I've been a Mac user for years, windows 10 won me back. This machine rivals Mac fit and finish to me. Different, but good.

Returned twice for failing display drivers

Toshiba really missed on here. I bought one of these, as a gift for my mother about a month ago. Within three days, the display driver started crashing, constantly. I live about 150 miles away, so I wasn't able to help much, which is why I bought the Geek Squad coverage. What really burns me up is that she called Toshiba support, and they wanted to charge her for a 'higher level" of support. I had her take it in to Geek Squad; they said everything was up to date (which it was, I confirmed that much remotely). They offered to replace it, so they did. BestBuy then gave them last year's model, with less ram, a Haswell instead of a Skylake, and a 1080p screen rather than 4k (which is why I even bothered with this machine in the first place). I saw the receipt come into my inbox, I read it, saw it was the wrong machine, and immediately called. She had already left town, but had not opened the box. She came to visit the next week; she, the unopened box, and I, made a trip to my local BestBuy. We returned the unopened, incorrectly sold, laptop, and walked out with the original model. Fast forward about a week. My mother calls me to let me know it is doing it again. Never again, Toshiba. Crummy QA, crummy service on a supposedly flagship consumer device? Thanks, but I'll toss my money at an Envy or Surface before you see me again.

Picked up the unit yesterday. Device is very light, thin, "sexy", and has an A+ screen. I am having 2 issues. The first is that the screen seems to be separated from the base on the bottom edge. It is 100% flush except for the center, It is pulling away. Hard to explain. The other issue is that while plugged in, their seems to be some stray voltage. if you touch the case or anything around the keyboard, you can feel electric current running through it. I have seen this issue with other laptops as well. When not plugged in, it is fine.

    Highly recommended - Amazing screen

Despite the negative reviews, I went ahead and purchased this laptop. It has all the latest features like Windows Hello, USB-C, Skylake processor, and the amazing 4K UHD screen. The sale price was too good to pass up compared to similarly equipped laptops like the HP Spectre and Lenovo Yoga 900. The i7 Skylake processor, 8GB RAM, and SSD perform very similar among them. What makes this laptop stand out is the amazing 4K Technicolor tuned IPS LCD screen. It is incredible. I was skeptical at having such a high resolution on a display this small but it is a sight to behold. Watching 4K videos on it will blow you away. The colors just pop and everything is so sharp. Windows 10 scaling on such a high resolution can be a little annoying but I can learn to live with it. The keyboard can take some getting used to. It's more cramped and the keys are smaller but the feel is good. The battery life is only 4-5 hours which is pretty bad compared the Spectre or Yoga 900, but if you're near a plug quite a bit it's not an issue. A lot of people comment on the trackpad being poor and non-responsive, but I have not experience any of that. In fact, it has worked really well for me and I hate trackpads. I made sure I updated all the drivers in Windows 10 as soon as I got the machine. There was a newer BIOS update from Toshiba that I downloaded immediately. Windows Hello works great. As soon as I turn it on I'm logged into windows. I don't have to type anything. The two infrared cameras recognize me immediately even in various lighting conditions. This is my first Toshiba and I've been very impressed so far!

Good: Stellar value. Spectacular 4k screen; the colors are "alive." Super quick SSD startup - usually less than 10 seconds. Slick Windows Hello recognition. Very lightweight. Excellent portability. Bad: Maybe you've read other reviews about the touch pad; yes it's true. Absolutely unreliable as it freezes/pauses. An unforgivable pain, if you rely on the pad. I use a USB mouse which easily solves the problem. This freezing also occurs, to a much lesser degree, with the keyboard. When initially typing, after device startup, into the URL bar and/or search engine, nothing is displayed on screen. I have to "re-click" and engage the cursor (within the bar), then typing will show on screen. This happens intermittently. A great screen comes at even a greater price. Battery life is poor to say the least. I've gotten anywhere from 2-5 hours on a full tank of juice. Whether "battery saver" helps much, I'm not sure. Keep it plugged if power is available.

Bright/Beautiful Screen, Fast, Battery life so so

Checked all the reviews (paying particular attention to the negative comments) and decided to pull the trigger anyway knowing I had more than the normal 14 days to return the unit because of the holiday extended return policy. So if the negative reviews held true and this thing turned out to be a dud I have plenty of time to exchange it. Also this gave me ample opportunity to test it out in many different environments & situations as write this review. Bottom line is that despite the few issues mentioned and the fact that I did not experience all the problems that some of the others did I find the Satellite Radius 12.5 4k to be a winner! I'd actually dropped my rating to a 4.7 for the minor issues if I could as there is definitely room for improvement. But all in all this the best package in it's category for the price. PROS *That screen! Bright & colorful 4k screen. 352 pixels per inch! +Extremely fast OS (This machine was definitely built with Windows 10 in mind) +Fast 256 SSD (And enough space for me as I have a desktop as my primary) +8 gigs LPDDR3/1600 ram (Enough for me to get er done) +Tablet mode (fairly light for what's packed inside) +Backlit keyboard +Slim bezel except on the bottom (convenient for holding while in tablet mode) +Facial recognition (windows hello) +Price down to 1050 for 4k now (got a 50.00 refund/Originally 1099) +Full hdmi +Type C +2 super speed usb 3.0 ports with sleep & charge feature supported on the left one (One of my favorite little enhancements) This has to be turned on in options. +Very slim & light weight It almost fit into an old surface pro 3 sleeve. (I actually could squeezed it in) +Great sound +Gorilla glass screen CONS -Battery life (only 5 to 6 hours, yet not a deal breaker for my use) -Have to make adjustments at times because of the high resolution, but there are workarounds -Too much screen glare under certain conditions -Fan gets going on occasion and (not too loud for me), but this doesn't really bother me as it never gets too hot -Had a Lenovo Yoga a couple years ago and feeling the keys on the back when in tablet mode felt a little weird then and it still feels weird now -Too much bloatware (You can get rid of it, but what a pain. Almost went with a signature unit without the junk, but this was easier to get and less expensive.

Hello. I did my research of all brand laptops and decided the Toshiba 12.5 radius had the most to offer over all the other brands in this size and price range. After 3 days of using I have no complaints excellent value for the money. Most people do not even realize this unit has Windows HELLO facial detection login built in which many other brands don't even offer. By that I mean it has 2 cameras, 1 webcam and 1 infra red camera for facial detection login. Another excellent feature is the USB 3.1 TYPE C port which you won't find on MOST other brands also 4k. Every feature working flawlessly and my opinion is an excellent unit. READ READ READ and learn how to use features before you complain.

I'm on my second Satellite and this one is also going back. The first one upon startup had a chip/processor fan that made terrible noise anytime the chip was being accessed so it immediately went back. My second one has continuous problems. Screen has crashed a couple times needing reboot. The mouse is very inconsistent and when I can find it, it skips around or doesn't react. Trying to use touch screen further confuses things. The graphics are great, but the super high resolution causing endless rendering issues with many programs having menus, click boxes and other items in super small (like 0.5pt) font, and other items too big, especially as I tried to adjust the Windows resolution settings, and just can't get it to work consistently across programs. Battery life 3-4 hours. Some of these might be Windows problems, but whatever, it shouldn't be my problem

Thank you for the review, Todd, and sorry to hear that you're having a few problems getting acquainted with your new Satellite P25W-C2300-4K, and sorry especially that you had to return the first unit.

I'll address each of the issues you raise but recommend that you contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 to address the crashing issue and providing them with a bit more detail regarding what you saw and experienced with what you described as the screen crashing.

Regarding the touchpad irregularity, please see the Toshiba Forums community knowledge base article and embedded video at forums.toshiba.com/t5/Keyboards-Touchpads-Knowledge/How-do-I-change-my-touchpad-settings-and-features-on-Windows-10/ta-p/426593 for help with configuring touchpad responsiveness and features to your preferences. If adjusting sensitivity parameters doesn't resolve those problems, Toshiba support can provide additional troubleshooting help.

Regarding inconsistent rendering of various applications on the 4K display, the short answer is that any program's capability for handling 4K and other Ultra HD displays is in the hands of the software developer as Microsoft does provide DPI (dots per inch) information about the displays in use via the Windows API (application programming interface.) That said, if you use programs that do not work well with 4K displays there are workarounds available. I recommend the following links for more details and tips:

    Flawless Laptop

I usually don't do reviews but I felt this one was important. I was a little hesitant to buy this Toshiba 12.5" from what I read on the previous reviews about the "slippery keyboard and uneven trackpad" which are both totally untrue. The keys are spaced properly apart and have absolutely no slippery feel to them. Also, the trackpad is smooth as silk. There was a less expensive 14" Toshiba model on display that they may have been talking about for the keyboard and trackpad issues but none here. The saying goes "you get what you pay for" and if you want this Microsoft Signature series laptop with top specs and a 4K screen then you have made the right choice. It took me an entire week of vacation to settle on this choice and I'm so glad I did! Don't be fooled by previous reviews or settle for something of less par just to save a few bucks because you will be regretting it later. This laptop has everthing with less than 3 Lbs Ultraportable bliss and definitely the best on today's market.

I bought the laptop after reading multiple reviews and testing laptops at the store. In the first hour of owning the computer, just got through with initializing Windows and downloaded Google chrome, the video driver failed causing the computer to blue screen. The computer automatically restarted with a note to contact Toshiba. Upon calling Toshiba was I told to return the laptop to factory settings (because I had to have messed with the settings in the first hour) and was given a long lecture on the proper way to shut down a laptop. I did not change any factory settings and I do know the proper way to turn off a laptop. I am usually a fan of toshiba; however this laptop gave me no reason to love it. I wish I could have had a working laptop longer than 1 hour to provide a better review but fate did not make it so.

I bought this computer this week out of the box I could not get the touchpad to work. I took it to Geek Squad who could not get it to work either. Geek Squad found the it had Windows updates that needed to be made. After two hours of updating, now nothing works. Ok, a slight exaggeration, it will power up. I can not use the touchpad, touchscreen or keyboard. After several reboots the same result. I couldn't return it on the spot because it didn't have the box with me. I read the complaints about the touchpad, but thought it was just user errors. I like the specs, look and feel, but it is only a paperweight at this point. I am heading to the store today unsure of whether to exchange it for a new one and hope for the first was is just a lemon or try something else. For the price it is a great deal if it works. I have never had a Toshiba before. I am not a fan of HP. I love Samsung, but alas they have abandoned the Laptop market and me. I would welcome recommendations.

Thank you for the review, tarnowcny, and sorry to hear about the touchpad problem on your Satellite P25W-C2300-4K.

I wonder if you were aware that the touchpad can be toggled "OFF" and "ON" by using the F5 function key. If the key is inadvertently pressed, it will disable the touchpad, potentially giving the impression that it isn't working. Of course, that wouldn't explain the touchscreen and keyboard problems that developed after the tech installed updates. We'd be curious to know more about that since we have no other reports of Windows Update disabling the touchscreen or keyboard.

I hope you do have this unit replaced with the same model and update your review to let us know how that works for you.

Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba

I needed a new laptop last year and begged for xmas a Surface Pro 3. I loved the idea of it. I got what I wished for, but now I wish I had listened to my old friend who told me you can always count on Toshiba to have quality products, from Laptop to TV, etc. My Surface is bricked. I'm currently using it as a mousepad for this lovely satellite. And oh by the way, the bricked surface is my 3rd! I sent it back twice, but they are all the same. Terrible products (Surface). All plagued by the same problems. Nevertheless, Microsoft refused to ship me a "new" refurbished for the 4th time before my 1 year warranty ran out. Hence, I took my old friend's advice and bought this laptop to replace the dud and I am ecstatic! It works! It turns on and everything! No blue screen, black screen, what have you. I can't get over how beautiful the screen is. It's amazing.

Unfortunately had to return this laptop due to the touchpad frequently failing making the computer virtually unusable without an external mouse. Toggling the touch pad off and on again repairs it for a couple of minutes before the problem returns. Did a full system reset and the problem persisted. Other than that it is an excellent machine with a beautiful display, good sound, quick processor and great design.

    Mouse touch pad is worthless

The laptop overall isn't too bad. Sometimes the text on the screen is so small it's unreadable, but I found the zoom today, so that's resolved. However, the touchpad is pretty much worthless for operating the mouse. The touchscreen is pretty good, but there are times the mouse is necessary - especially with the zoom function turned on. I bought it to travel internationally, where packing light is EVERYTHING, so I'm very disappointed that I have to bring an external mouse for it. If I had it to do all over again, I would get one that's slightly bigger with a mouse touchpad that works.
