Hardware failure-returned 3 new laptops in 14 days

All 3 laptops displayed the message "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows 8(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered". Geeksquad installed Windows Updates. The following day, the first two laptops showed a message stating Boot device not found... and the laptops didn't startup - Toshiba Support and Geeksquad diagnosed them as hardware failure, my only option was to return or exchange the laptops. The 3rd laptop showed the same Display Driver error message. After Updating Windows, the laptop crashed 4-5 times in the span of 2 days, displaying the message ":( Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we"ll restart for you. If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error; CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED". Also showed similar messages saying search online later for this error; DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (InlcDAud.sys), another similar message with KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. Then the screen had lines across the screen, started flickering, etc. When I ran CPU-Z to verify the clock speed (which was over 3 GHz at times!), the laptop crashed. I've spent 2 weeks exchanging laptops, hoping one would work without any glitches because the laptop's surely a powerhouse (you can see the clock speed over 3 Ghz), the screen's great, feels good, speakers are good, etc. Frustrated, I've now exchanged for a Yoga 900 13ISK today which isn't quite as powerful:(! Really disappointed this powerhouse didn't work for me!

Thank you for the review, Gautam, and sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Satellite P55W-C5321-4Ks.

The original "Display driver stopped responding..." error seems to have been resolved by the updates performed by Geek Squad, and resolution would indeed be expected for that error by updating the Intel Display driver using Windows Update.

Unfortunately, based on the experience that followed, it seems likely that Windows became corrupted. I understand that you already returned the unit but, for future reference, a Windows Reset would have likely repaired the Windows corruption and eliminated those later symptoms. The Toshiba Forums community knowledge base article at forums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/How-do-I-reset-my-Windows-10-computer-to-factory-defaults/ta-p/657990 has more details and step-by-step instructions for that process, which is relevant for any Windows PC.

Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba

Defective Computer - Shameful Customer Service

The laptop I received had a defective motherboard and failed to boot within three weeks of using it. I returned it to Toshiba under warranty. They repaired it for 3 weeks, then send it back. Apparently, they screwed up the repair (replaced mismatched hardware) so now the computer is not capable of 4K display. They've offered to try a second time to repair the computer, but this will mean being without the computer for about a month. Since this is my work computer and I work remotely, this is not an option for me, and I'll be forced to purchase another computer in the meantime. Toshiba refuses to refund or exchange this computer, even though it was defective upon purchase and I patiently gave them one shot at repairing it for me. I will absolutely never buy another Toshiba product again, and I'm trying to warn as many people as possible away from a company which does not take responsibility for their mistakes. I understand that manufacturing mistakes happen and I'm usually quite patient to find workable resolutions. However, Toshiba has met me halfway under these circumstances, and they refuse to find agreeable solutions with me, the customer.
