Does this movie really benefit a 4K update? No, but that didn't stop me from upgrading it. I am updating my Disney collection to anything that has been re-released into 4K and I'm not stopping. In other words, unless you're a "have to get 4K" guy like me, stick with the BR version and you will be fine.

This is one of those rare sequels that manage to outshine its already sensationally entertaining predecessor on its own in every conceivable way. The first Toy Story film was the pioneer for the world of computer-generated animation, as well as for children’s movies and cinema in general. It was the first-ever full length CGI animated feature film, with groundbreaking visuals pretty darn impressive for 1995, as well as an inventive and imaginative storyline that can appeal to both young and old. Toy Story 2 builds on the grand adventures of our beloved characters Woody and his gang, by expertly fleshing out the characters we’ve come to love, such as Buzz Lightyear who went from delusional space ranger to the wise voice of reason, and in a twist of irony, had to be the one to knock some sense into Woody when the idiot decided to stay with Jessie, Stinky Pete and Bullseye and live the rest of his life as a mere collector’s item instead of with the boy who truly loves him and the one whom he’s made to keep happy while Andy’s still young. Woody has also changed for the better, having learned the previous movie’s lesson that it’s not about being the favorite toy, but rather being a toy is all about making a child happy, as well as the usual themes of friendship, loyalty, and teamwork that the Toy Story series strongly emphasizes on for children and adults alike to learn. The movie introduces new characters and taking the time and effort to build up the drama surrounding them, such as with Jessie’s heart wrenching backstory which made her lose faith in being owned by a child. The film even raises questions that definitely paved the way for the future and for the eleven year gap between this film and Toy Story 3: What will happen when Andy grows up and doesn’t need toys anymore? The script is also very, very, very clever and funny, with sly references to classic films such as Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and even Jurassic Park, as well as subtly touching humor that its target audience humorously won’t understand. The undying friendship between Woody and Buzz is undeniably heartwarming and one of the best things about the movie and the series. The animation definitely improved from the first movie as well, and is crisper, clearer, and dazzlingly gorgeous for 1999. Overall, Toy Story 2 is literally perfect in every possible way, from its expert character development, its effective worldbuilding, its screenplay, the voice cast and voice performances, the animation, the storytelling, all of it. It’s definitely an all around classic just like it’s predecessor, but better in animation and entertainment. I give it a 10/10

I really love this movie. It's amazing and an instant classic. Now for the 4k version, animation comes across even better in 4k and the steelbook cover is nice. I'm not the biggest fan of this cover but at least it's completely new version, not using same old images.

This movie... what a trilogy! A heartfelt conclusion to everyone’s childhood. These are gorgeous steelbooks. Pictures don’t do them justice. If you’re getting 1 then you gotta get all 3! I love when the steelbook art matches for the trilogy, and these don’t disappoint.

My kid is at the age where he's into all Disney/Pixar movies. Right now his go-to are the Toy Story movies. Out of the three that are available for purchase, this one is his favorite. It's a little less dark than the first movie and a little more enjoyable for him.

I upgrade every time Disney comes out with a new format. I have to say, they knocked this one out of the park. The picture is amazing and the sound is incredible even compared to blu-ray. Definitely one of my demo disc I fire up to show off system!

Glad to see Pixar/Disney revisit the Toy Story trilogy in anticipation of the new fourth movie hitting theaters this summer. The steelbook treatment is always appreciated by collectors such as myself. Glad to add this one to my movie collection!

We have a new child so thought we would start now to fill out the Disney shelf over time (guess that isn't necessary since they apparently stopped the practice of limiting what is for sale). I was excited to see the 3rd movie and bought the first two as well. Surprised about my reaction. I then remembered the story line and I am not sure I am a great fan. Woody is a little histrionic. I will say that I buy from BB because of Disc+Digital. I dropped Amazon because it is hard to tell about that and Walmart because they laid off my wife.

Very good follow up to an amazing original. Offers additional emotional development and complexity to a complementary story of buzz saving Woody.....tough competition, but probably the least-great of the three. Hardly a knock on this movie.

The fun and adventure continues. What a great follow up that will not disappoint. The 4K looks amazing and the steel book itself is very nice and a welcomed addition to my steel book collection. I hope for many many more Toy Story movies.

Toy Story 2 is my personal favorite installment in an amazing franchise. This one in particular just makes me feel nostalgic and makes me want to take out buzz and woody and have a grand adventure just like the toys do at Al’s Toy Barn!

With movies moving to Blu-ray I know that it's time to start getting copies of our favorite movies on Blu-ray so the best place to start is with our family favorite movies Toy Story and Toy Story 2 so they were perfect Christmas gifts this year.

Re-watching the Toy Story movies in 4K has been a pleasant trip down memory lane. It's hard to believe that the second one is even better since the first one is so good. The films look and sound great in 4K and are easily recommended.

Most people say this sequel isn't as good as the original and while I agree, I don't think it's bad at all. I love it. It firmly completes the trilogy. I love the steelbook as well. 4K looks awesome but I'm not selling my 3D sets!!

i love the toy story 2 series and also it is steelbook. I bought this during the buy 2 get one free for movies. great deal. plus it was on sale too. My kids love it, so why not own the movie and rewatch it with my kids.

Classic pixar receiving the 4K steelbook treatment. I hope Toy Story 4's art is changed to match the three that just came out.... not sure why Disney would design the 4th movie's art to be different than these three.

Nice steelbook with gloss finish and logo embossing. Toy Story 1, 2, and 3 all look great together with matching steelbooks. Unfortunately, they didn’t follow suit with the fourth film’s steelbook release.

I owned the regular DVD version for years, but wanted to get the Blu-ray copy while it was available. The video is clear, sharp and the colors pop from the screen. A movie that grownups and kids can enjoy together.

Purchased this the day the steelbooks hit the shelves. Normally these movies fly off the shelf, but they had plenty left. It’s a great addition to our growing steelbook collection. We love all the toy story movies.
