Synopsis

Toy Story 2
Woody the Cowboy, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of their friends from the toy box return in this computer-animated sequel to the 1995 hit Toy Story. This time around, Andy, the young boy who is the proud owner of most of our cast of characters, is off at summer camp, giving the toys a few weeks off to do as they please. Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) is unaware that in the years since his model went out of production, he's become a rare and valuable collector's item. An avid toy collector (voice of Wayne Knight) decides that he wants Woody for his collection and swipes him, so Buzz Lightyear (voice of Tim Allen), Hamm (voice of John Ratzenberger), Rex (voice of Wallace Shawn), Slinky Dog (voice of Jim Varney), and Mr. Potato Head (voice of Don Rickles) venture forth to rescue their kidnapped friend before Andy returns. Along with most of the original voice cast, composer Randy Newman returns with a new score and new songs. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This has GOT to be on the short list of movie sequels that are superior to the originals. First off I felt that an entirely digitally animated movie was incredible to begin with, and when I finally saw the original 'Toy Story' I was in awe of not just how technologically incredible it was, but how GOOD it was as well. Forget for a moment we are talking about ANIMATION...I think too many people believe that just because it wasn't live-action it simply wasn't worth an adults time. Thank heavens I have little children who want me to take them to these kinds of films so I won't feel embarassed as an adult walking into a so-called 'Children's movie'...but it just DOESN'T matter in the case of 'Toy Story' and this particularly amazing sequel. I have to hand it to the producers and writers for coming up with such a great story! First off you have to put yourself into the role of a toy, and think to yourself, "IF it WAS true that toys were alive, what kinds of problems might they encounter?" They certainly did come up with a plot that seems a perfect natural for this scenario. All of the voices do a superb job of giving life to these animated toys we see, so good in fact that I watched the entire film without once thinking to myself, "Hey, that's Tom Hanks and Tim Allen talking there!" You find very quickly that you are enveloped in this creative and might I add VERY FUNNY story which moves along at a great pace and well, even if you have seen it before, it is definitely worth another look...and if you have put off seeing this because its a 'kids film' get OVER it and see it. Good stuff no matter HOW old you are.

After the original 1995 "Toy Story" the 1 that started Disney/Pixar collaborations. Film fans know the history of "Toy Story 2". Originally it was to be a straight to video release BUT the film was so good they released it in theaters. They did the right thing. A great film, memorable characters. They introduced Jessie & Bullseye in this film. I am NOT a big Jessie fan. Thought the character was just too loud. Buzz Lightyear is my favorite. The flaw, still NOT a Randy Newman fan. We ALL know the reason for this March 2010 DVD release was to promote the June 2010 release of "Toy Story 3". For fans this DVD release is a let down. YOU WILL DO MUCH BETTER WITH THE 2005 2 DISC DVD PACKAGE. GO FIND 1 OF THOSE, THIS EDITION IF YOU WANT EXTRAS IS A MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. Only 1 disc compared to the 2005 2 disc edition. A bunch of extras-ONLY FEW MENTIONED ON OUTSIDE DVD PACKAGE. Most of them for kids. I am a fan of the film, I want making of specials, actor information, etc. Do NOT look for stuff like that here. Go to the 2005 DVD 2 disc package. NO chapter search list. NO film information inside. IF you want just the most & basic extras this is for you. IF you want more information/extras YOU ARE BETTER OFF GETTING THE 2005 2 DISC RELEASE. 5 RATING FOR FILM NOT DVD PACKAGE

Toy Story 2 is a great sequel to the original. The story is a good one for kids and adults. I really like the new characters they added. Just as the original Toy Story 2 has a great story and is funny. All 3 movies really take you back when life was simplier. It was what toys will I play with today and what situation will they find themselves in. It is a great movie to watch with or without your kids. The extras leave a little to be desired for those that like the special features but I still highly recommend adding this movie to your collection whether on DVD or Blu-ray.

I loved all three Toy Story movies (the original was obviously the best), so I finally decided to buy them to add to my movie collection since I could buy both the blu-ray and digital in one purchase. My only complaint was that at the time of purchase, it wasn't on sale. The movie is almost 17 years old and is still almost $30. Don't get me wrong, you get what you pay for and it's still worth the price, I just wish the sale price ($19.99) was the standard price.

Best Buy offered "Toy Story 2" for $19.99 which included the Blu-ray version with extras, as well as a digital copy of the movie. This was the same price as what was offered by iTunes which was a digital copy only. Great deal, great movie! Part of the new and continuing classic feature-length movie collection from Pixar through Walt Disney Studios that has created a reliable source for true family entertainment.

Woody (Tom Hanks) is stolen from his home by toy dealer Al McWhiggin (Wayne Knight), leaving Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) and the rest of the gang to try to rescue him. But when Woody discovers that he's actually a valuable collectible from a once-popular television show called "Woody's Roundup" and is reunited with his horse Bullseye, Jessie the yodeling cowgirl (Joan Cusack) and his faithful sidekick, Stinky Pete the Prospector (Kelsey Grammer), he doesn't want to leave

As sequels go this one is pretty good. There are new toy characters. My daughter loves Jessie the cowgirl. There is a good story for kids to follow with a problem, the toys working to resolve the problem (with them getting into some funny situations) and finally the resolution of the problem. All and all a fun family movie. The reason for my purchase was we had it on DVD, but wanted it on Blu-Ray.

Not Quite As Good As the Original

'Toy Story 2' follows its predecessor in terms of animation quality, though it's not quite as good of a movie. Presented beautifully here on this two-disc special edition that fans are sure to enjoy. (note to buyers: if you already own the previous 'Toy Story: Ultimate Toy Box' set, don't bother purchasing this one as you're not getting anything new, this release actually drops some of the bonus features from that previous set).
