      Hi RickyG,

      Hi,

Thank you for your review. If you haven't noticed a significant improvement in Wi-Fi coverage after installing the extender, we recommend moving the unit to a spot in your home where the router's Wi-Fi signal is strong enough but still far enough from the router to extend its range effectively. Please check that the RE status LED shows a solid connection.

We also recommend ensuring the extender's firmware is fully up to date using the steps outlined in FAQ 1406 on our official website: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1406/

As you have pointed out, connecting the Range Extender directly to your network using an Ethernet cable and setting it up in Access Point Mode may yield improved results.

If you need help with your TP-Link device, contact our support team using any of the resources provided with the product or available on our official website, and a Support Agent will follow up with you directly.

      Thank you,

    Killed my biggest deadspot!

We used to have spotty zoom meetings in our office, which ironically is our biggest deadspot in the house. I do have a wifi7 mesh system with 2 nodes. However, I cannot optimally place any of the two nodes inside the office without evenly spreading the signals throughout my home. Since no wifi can cut through the fireplace pillar where my main router unfortunately sits (placed by Spectrum on a short cable), I am forced to let my signals crawl through a hallway into the office, hoping no microwave signal knocks the waves out. This range extender helped bring more internet in the office and it has been our missing piece for a while. Setup is great as I had three options and have actually tried all of them: 1) WPS button 2) Through the app, 3) Direct Wifi / webpage logon. Weirdly, I used option 3 first, however, I entered my password erroneously and there was no way for me (at least from my multiple navigation attempts) to edit the password so I never connected successfully. Then I did the WPS option which was the easiest, however, the Wifi signal was coming out as XXX_Ext and I did not want to have to connect to a different wifi in the office. So I tried the app route, hoping it will have the same SSID as my wifi system. It didn’t. It still had the “Ext” in the SSID so I just went with the app connection anyway. Router to extender established handshake, and the extender was ready to be placed in the office. Since it is a range extender, it is expected that it takes up a lot of space in my sockets. I had to place it on an extension cord to accommodate its size. Once connected, my devices in the office can already see the difference. Tweaks can be done through the app which made it more simple to customize for possibly varying home settings, like changing its more to access point, etc, and other options. I have gig internet, and in the office, I average around 200Mbps when the doors are closed. With the range extender, I was doing around 300 with ping improvement from 30 down to 18ms. So far so good, except with the downside of having to connect to the range extender wifi (EXT). But what I did was to hardwire my dock to the extender which provided a super stable connection to my network. After three days at work this week, in closed doors, none of my meetings dropped, or even pixelated anyone’s faces. I am happy. This is a very simple solution to get things in order at my home, without maybe purchasing another mesh node? The good thing too is that it can be used with other systems, so anytime I upgrade my mesh system, the range extender stays with me. What an easy flexible solution. I recommend!

As a user of TP-Link's Deco Wi-Fi 7 Mesh System, I was excited to receive a TP-Links RE235BE Range Extender for testing and review as I have a dead spot on the outside of my house where I have a sprinkler system installed. I have been unable to connect to it on my Wi-Fi network even though it comes equipped to connect to it. The TP-Link Range Extender solved that problem quickly and easily. The TP-Link's BE3600 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 Range Extender (model RE235BE) provides 3.6 Gbps speed, multi-link operation, has a 2.5G multi-gigabit ethernet port built in, allows for smart roaming from room to room while staying connected at the highest possible speeds and has compatible with all Wi-Fi generations and devices through all internet providers. Upon the delivery of this new range extender, I opened the box and took out the range extender. To facilitate the installation and connection of the TP-Link extender, I downloaded their Tether smartphone application which made setting up the range extender simple, quick and quite easy. I was up and connected in under 5 minutes. I placed the extender near a bedroom window close to the sprinkler system controller I wanted to connect to. Voila! It connected quickly and I am now able to control the sprinklers inside the house without running outside to manually change its programming. Problem solved!

If your home or office is big, leaving some spots devoid of a usable wi-fi signal, there is probably no easier way to fix that problem than with TP Link's new BE3600 Dual Band Wi-Fi 7 Range Extender. I had this thing up and running in less than 5 minutes and it provided meaningfully improved throughput in the far reaches of my home, when linked with a relatively new TP Link Wi-Fi 7 router. All you have to do is take it out of the box, flip up the two side mounted antennas, plug it into an outlet and use the WPS buttons on the extender and the router and get them talking to each other. Four little blue lights on the front of the extender light up and/or blink to show the progress When all of them are lit up and are not blinking, you are good to go. (The lights indicate power, a good wi-fi/internet handshake with the router, and show both 2.4ghz and 5ghz channels are functional. ) This is perhaps the easiest network device I have even installed (and I have installed a lot of them). It literally only took a few minutes to get it running. ( You can install using the TP Link apps or QR code in the included instructions but WPS is faster) There are no new network names involved here, as is the case with some wi-fi extenders. This truly is just an extension of your existing wi-fi network. So all devices that worked with the original system name will work with this extender without changing anything. It operates more like a wi-fi mesh node than an extender, and shows up that way in the TP Link app. Except it was a lot easier to install, at least in my experience. I tested throughput in several different locations before and after activating the extender. I was surprised to see the most distant parts of the house getting three to five time better throughput after the extender was installed. It probably does not hurt that my router and extender were made by the same company but TP Link maintains the extender "works with any wi-fi router" and is EasyMesh compliant. Keep in mind, however this IS a wi-fi 7 device so if your router is older and does not support this standard, your results may vary. It should work with fine with recent WiFi 6 and 6e models but anything older might have issues. My only major gripe is the extender does NOT support the new 6ghz channel that is found on many wi-fi 7 routers. And that's too bad since that frequency has a shorter reach than the 2.4 or 5ghz channels. So it could really benefit from a boost from a wi-fi extender. Also be aware that adding an extender could actually reduce throughput in some cases because of the increased interference from the extender, if too close to the router. I found my 6ghz channel took a hit when running the extender and got better results on the 5ghz channel. Which should not be a major concern for most people since very few devices now support 6ghz. But it may be an issue in the future. Also, this is one of those issues that varies depending on the size of your home, the placement of the router and extender and how much outside wi-fi interference there is your neighborhood. One other small caveat: Like most devices of this type, it runs 24/7 so it gets pretty hot. So don't jam it into an outlet behind a bed, cabinet or couch. It needs room to breathe, and cool off Also, a word about throughput. I have 2.5gbs internet service and this extender claims to support throughput speeds well in excess of that, at least on the 5ghz channel. But the truth is you will never see those kind of wireless speeds in the real world. They are theoretical. On my best days, I might get 1gbs, and even that is unusual. Still, even half of that is plenty fast enough for most mere mortals, just streaming music, movies and surfing the internet. So dont lose any sleep over the speed ratings. In the end, this is a great choice if your existing wi-fi system can't reach all parts of your home or office. It is easy to set up and provides much better reach than a router alone.

TP LINK couldn't have designed an easier initial handshake between my router and the Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 BE3600 RANGE EXTENDER. Set up is straight forward as follows: Plug the unit into an outlet. Press a button and wait for a blinking light to go solid. Next step is to find the TP LINK TETHER APP Download at GOOGLE PLAY or the APPLE APP STORE. Set up an account, Login then execute instructions to complete the connection to your Wi-Fi. The TP LINK TETHER APP's User Interface is friendly, uncomplicated, and moves you through to blast off without obstacle. App extras include usage data analysis, parental settings, network monitoring, etc The compact size of the TP Link is also a blessing without extraneous wiring to manage. This unit just plugs into a three-pronged outlet. But if a three-pronged outlet is not available, an INTERIM work around is an inexpensive three to two prong conversion grounded adapter for your AC outlet. Also, if an Ethernet Cable connection is preferred, see their easy peazy Quick Install Guide. The unit offers a 2.5 Gbps LAN port for fast wired connections. I was surprised and relieved that no headaches emerged. This unit is another example of how technology has evolved into a high-speed connection with a hassle-free wireless installation at a fraction of the cost of my old range extender and a fraction of the foot print. Thrilled that difficult dead zones have been eliminated and Wi-Fi coverage is established in a home with 3000 square feet of living space via a dual band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz stability from a kitchen-based router broadcasting to three floors. For the initial connection, placement of this range extender has to be ~16 feet, more or less from the router. Note that 6 GHz is not available with this option. Since I have reached my household limit of EMFs, no report on IoT connectivity and performance. This unit is a value buy for home/office applications.

Summary – If your network has a weak area, the TP-Link BE3600 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 Range Extender will take care of it. It’s reliable, fast and surprisingly easy to set up and use with your existing network. Pros - Easy to integrate into your existing network, no tech experience required. - Wi-Fi 7, future proofing your network with speed. - 2.5 Gbps ethernet port - Great signal strength - Useful but easy to use Tether App (IOS or Android) - WPS available but not required. Your Mileage May Vary - Hi Tech, angular design, screams out function over form. Does not blend in. - Direct plug in to wall outlet design, makes it difficult to place and use other nearby outlets. - Only one ethernet port. Cons - None to report. More Words- I’ve been using TP-Link products for years and have always valued their reliability and coverage and this Wi-Fi 7 Range Extender is no different. Some networks need constant resetting or have poor range, but not TP-Link. But what is different about the Wi-Fi 7 range extender versus its siblings is the ease of setting it up and use. Previously I have found TP-Link products to be a tad techy (difficult) to set up, but not this range extender. Its goal is simple, to take an existing wireless network and extend the range without compromising speed. And it accomplishes that easily. The antennas provide good signal strength even through walls.

The tp-link Wi-Fi 7 is probably the easiest piece of technology I have ever setup. When the box says “Quick, Simple Setup” they aren’t kidding. The most difficult part of the process was getting to my Linksys router and finding that little bitty blue button that was the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup). This function allows you to connect to the network without manually entering a password. Setup was so simple! Plug in the tp-link Wi-Fi 7 to an outlet near the router. Press the WPS button on the router and then press the WPS button on the tp-link. The wi-fi light came on and in less than two minutes both the 2.4G and 5G lights were on. Then I took the tp-link ut to the garage and plugged it in. Again, it took a minute or two and then it was connected. To determine if it worked, I did this very technical test. First, I went out to the garage with my phone and determined that the wireless network connection was about 1.5 out of 3 bars. After the tp-link was up and running I used the wi-fi connection on the phone to connect to the wi-fi connection that was the name of my wi-fi with “_EXT” at the end. Connected to that wi-fi connection and viola I had a 3 bar connection. My garage is a workshop. With a good wi-fi connection I’ll be able to spend more time out there and not worry about missing calls. My cell functions via a wi-fi connection as we don’t have cell service in the mountains.

The TP-Link BE3600 Wi-Fi Range Extender is a simple and effective device that took about 5 minutes to get connected and working. The one thing that I needed to do was download the tether app onto my phone which is on the Wi-Fi. I took the unit out of the box and plugged it in at a location I thought best. The antenna on top of the unit were already attached out of the box. I basically just moved them into a pre-set position. Depending on the current Wi-Fi environment and wall geometry, a person may need to try different antenna setups for the optimal connection. Or maybe try different wall receptacles. Once the unit powered up, I hopped on the tether app and connected it to the unit. It asked me to set the new password. After that, the unit took care of everything else and began extending the range of my home Wi-Fi. Of note, the unit does not show up as a different network which is nice. I noticed that my connection was completely stable, when before it would drop occasionally. There was also about a 20 percent increase in download/upload speed. Overall, I liked the TP-Link BE3600 Wi-Fi Range Extender because it did exactly what it advertised and the setup was so easy.

I am pleased with my new Dual Band Wi-Fi 7 range extender. Note the model number of this is the RB235BE. The "BE3600" designation means that the maximum wireless speed is 3600 Mbps, and of course the "BE" stands for the wireless tech 802.11be (what is now colloquially is known as Wi-Fi 7. The unit came in a sturdy box and was easy to unpack. My disappointment came in the fact that this extender has a grounding plug. While that may be smart electrically, my previous TP-Link range extender (Wi-Fi 5 - yes it was time to upgrade) only had a two prong plug. This was a surprise and made it challenging for me due to the placement of the device in my setup. Most people probably will not have that challenge if the plug they plan to use is easily accessible; therefore, I did not knock of a star for it, but I think it is important to know it. For me, I was able to adapt, but my extender is not in my ideal location both aesthetically and functionally. The other disappointment for which I almost knocked a star off is the lack of a user's manual - even on line via the support page. Yes, TP Link includes a quick installation guide and there are resources on the web site showing you how to configure. Having said, my previous TP-Link range extender had a very detailed 58 page PDF manual that you could download. This is a newly released device, so perhaps they will upload one soon? But for now, you are on your own figuring things out and piecing together FAQs to properly configure. For instance you may or may not want to use a different SSID for the range extender. I believe this is basic info that a consumer should hot have to search for. Now that my "nits" are out of the way, I can confirm that the functionality of the extender is excellent. This is an "Easy Mesh" device that should easily (ahem) mesh with an Easy Mesh Router from different manufacturers. Fortunately for me, my Wi-Fi 7 router is also manufactured by TP-Link. Therefore, I am also able to obtain the benefits of this being a TP-Link "One-Mesh" configuration. So after going through the configurations on the TP-Link product setup web page, and toggling Easy Mesh to on, I was up and running pretty quickly. Again, I would have appreciated a more written step by step written guide on the best way to configure, but it was simple enough. So now the best part - this device eliminated a dead zone in my house. My devices connect easily and the throughput is excellent. I have absolutely no complaints about the functionality of this device. Again, I was tempted to rate this a 4, but because the device comes "as advertised" and my devices seamlessly switch from router to extender, and the throughput is great, I will keep it as a 5 star rating. SUMMARY: Either way, this device is recommended if you have a WiFi7 Easy Mesh router and want to eliminate dead zones. It isn't inexpensive of course (and a cheaper WiFi 6 extender may suit you just fine), but if you want the latest and greatest, buy this.

Let me cut to the chase on this range extender. It just works! The thing about an item like this is that once you set it up, you really don't think about it much, but you reap the benefits of it. I have a two-story house that is about 3300 sq ft, with a finished basement. The basement has always had a problem getting a consistently strong wireless connection. I am using a TP-Link BE16000 quad band mesh setup with three nodes. I thought that would be enough to blanket my entire house in wireless glory, but even with one node being located in the basement with a 50-foot Cat6 cable plugged into it from the main unit in the main floor office, I still drop signals or experience the dreaded circle of death. I originally purchased the TP Link RE715X and it worked well, but when I had the chance to get this one, I jumped on it and returned the other one. Setup was extremely easy with the Tether app, but you need to plug it into an available ethernet port initially but once programmed you can move it to your desired location. You can even use the app to tell you if the extender is in a good location or if you need to move it closer to your router. In my case, the app tells me the signal is great and that I can actually move it further away from the router. I already have to "networks" with my existing mesh setup. One is strictly a 2.4ghz network and the other enables 2.4, 5 and 6ghz MLO networks. I can use the app to tell what devices are connected to the extender and I can also block anything that I don't want to connect. There is also a security tab in the app that you can check for threats to your network, and you have the option to purchase their On-the-Go Antivirus software that is powered by Norton. I chose not to pay for the upgrade and just use standalone software that I installed. The app is very intuitive and easy to use. You can set the extender up as a router or extender, customize the Wi-Fi coverage, ECO mode and a few other options. As I said in the beginning, this is just something that you setup and forget. I always knew when my connection was weak and got frustrated with it, but now that it just works, I don't think much about it. Thats the kind of tech I like. I really can't say enough about this device. It really has been a game changer for me and my family. I highly recommend this device.

Recently upgraded my whole home wifi from broadband to fiber optic. So far I don’t really notice the difference between the two. Mainly, because I have yet to run cat cables through my attic into the rooms containing my families devices and PCs. There are 2 spots we’ve found in our house that are more dead than dead zones. They are both in our upstairs level. The router is located centrally on the main level but even so it doesn’t seem to matter. I just bought an ethernet switch for when I run the cable. For now, I picked up this TP-Link BE3600 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 Range Extender to see if it would alleviate the issue in our upper level. Now I’m wondering if I really need to run the cat cable. This thing is awesome, and so easy to set up. Dead zones are gone now completely. This comes as no surprise as I own other TP-Link products and they’ve never let me down. That’s it, I don’t know what else to say in this review other than THANK YOU TP-Link for solving my issue with another great product! I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking to extend their internet service coverage area. Before I forget, for reference, my home is a tri-level, and its roughly 3,000 sq-FT. There’s a basement in half the home’s floor plan, and I have not internet connectivity issues down there either. Can’t go wrong with this wi-fi extender!

The TP-Link BE3600 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 Range Extender represents the company's entry-level approach to next-generation wireless extension technology. As one of the more affordable Wi-Fi 7 range extenders available in 2025, the RE235BE targets consumers seeking to upgrade their network infrastructure without the premium price typically associated with cutting-edge wireless standards. Design and Build Quality The RE235BE follows TP-Link's traditional range extender aesthetic with a compact, wall-plug design that prioritizes functionality over visual appeal. The unit features a straightforward white plastic construction that blends discretely into most home environments. Like many budget-oriented networking devices, the build quality reflects its price point—adequate for residential use but lacking the robust construction found in enterprise-grade equipment. The physical design includes standard LED indicators for power, signal strength, and connectivity status, providing users with essential feedback about the device's operational state. The compact form factor ensures the extender won't obstruct adjacent electrical outlets, a practical consideration often overlooked in competing products. Technical Specifications and Performance At the heart of the RE235BE lies dual-band Wi-Fi 7 technology capable of delivering theoretical speeds up to 3.6 Gbps. The speed allocation breaks down to approximately 2,882 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 688 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band. These specifications position the device as an entry-level Wi-Fi 7 solution, suitable for extending coverage in small to medium-sized homes. The extender supports key Wi-Fi 7 features including Multi-Link Operation (MLO), 160 MHz bandwidth channels, 4K-QAM modulation, and Multi-RU functionality. However, users should note that accessing these advanced features requires compatible client devices that also support Wi-Fi 7 standards. For households with mixed device generations, the extender maintains backward compatibility with Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 5, and earlier standards. Real-world performance typically falls short of theoretical maximums, as is standard across the industry. The dual-band configuration, while adequate for basic extension needs, cannot match the throughput capabilities of tri-band alternatives that include dedicated 6 GHz bands. This limitation becomes apparent in bandwidth-intensive applications or environments with numerous connected devices. Setup and Configuration TP-Link has streamlined the installation process through multiple configuration options. Users can choose between WPS button setup for quick deployment, the TP-Link Tether mobile application for guided installation, or traditional web-based configuration for advanced users. The Tether app, in particular, provides an intuitive interface that simplifies network extension for less technical users. The setup process typically requires positioning the extender within range of the existing router while ensuring adequate signal strength for effective extension. The device's LED indicators assist with optimal placement, though I had to experiment with locations to achieve the best performance balance between source signal strength and extended coverage area. Coverage and Range The BE3600's effectiveness as a range extender depends heavily on the existing network infrastructure and physical environment. In my typical residential setting, the device can extend Wi-Fi coverage to eliminate dead zones in basements, upper floors, or distant rooms. However, the dual-band configuration limits its ability to maintain high speeds across extended distances compared to more expensive tri-band alternatives. The 160 MHz bandwidth capability on the 5 GHz band provides improved data throughput when available, though this feature may not be accessible in all regions due to regulatory restrictions. The 2.4 GHz band offers better penetration through walls and obstacles but at significantly reduced speeds, making it suitable primarily for IoT devices and basic internet browsing. Value Proposition and Market Position The RE235BE occupies a unique position in the Wi-Fi 7 extender market as one of the most affordable options incorporating next-generation wireless technology. This pricing strategy makes Wi-Fi 7 features accessible to budget-conscious consumers who want to future-proof their networks without substantial investment. However, the cost-cutting measures are evident in the device's performance limitations. Users seeking maximum throughput, tri-band functionality, or advanced features like 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports will need to consider higher-tier alternatives. The BE3600 serves best as a basic extension solution for households with modest bandwidth requirements and mixed device ecosystems. Limitations and Considerations Several factors limit the RE235BE's appeal for demanding users. The dual-band configuration restricts simultaneous high-speed connections on both frequency bands. The absence of dedicated backhaul bands means the extender must share bandwidth between client connections and router communication, potentially reducing overall network efficiency. Additionally, the device may not support all mandatory Wi-Fi 7 features as defined by IEEE 802.11be specifications, with some functionality potentially requiring future firmware updates. This uncertainty could affect long-term feature availability and compatibility with emerging Wi-Fi 7 devices. Conclusion The TP-Link BE3600 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 Range Extender delivers entry-level Wi-Fi 7 functionality at an accessible price point. While it lacks the advanced features and robust performance of premium alternatives, it successfully introduces next-generation wireless technology to budget-conscious consumers. The device serves best in scenarios requiring basic range extension with modest performance expectations rather than demanding applications requiring maximum throughput and advanced Wi-Fi 7 capabilities. For users prioritizing affordability and basic Wi-Fi 7 compatibility over peak performance, the RE235BE represents a reasonable entry point into next-generation wireless networking. However, those with higher performance requirements or complex network needs should consider more capable alternatives despite the increased cost.

Easy to set up. It steps you through the process and even if you aren’t tech savvy it seems straightforward. There is an app the corresponds with it and it validates that it is working. I honestly can’t say that it made a huge difference. I was hoping areas where things weren’t loading properly or buffering for a long time would be corrected. It hasn’t changed this. I was hoping it would bring the internet out by my pool, it did not work for that either. So although it is easy to install it only appears to make a minor change in the overall working of the system. In fairness there is a company laying fiber in my neighborhood and I question if they are messing with coverage since I have never had the level of issues I have had lately which is why I sought out this device. It takes up half of a power outlet and has four blue lights so it is not discreet. It has you install it close to your router and then move it to where your problem area is and hope that it is close enough to connect back.

      Hi Mary,

Thank you for your review. If you haven't noticed a significant improvement in Wi-Fi coverage after installing the extender, we recommend relocating the unit to a position within your home where the router's Wi-Fi signal is sufficiently strong; yet far enough from the router to effectively extend its range. Please verify the RE status LED is indicating a solid connection.

We also recommend ensuring the extender's firmware is fully up to date using the steps outlined in FAQ 1406 on our official website: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1406/

Alternatively, our Deco Mesh Systems have Outdoor options, such as the Deco X50-Outdoor and Deco BE65-Outdoor, which offer weatherproof Mesh Wi-Fi coverage for your outdoor areas.

If you would like assistance with your TP-Link networking devices, please reach out to our support team using any of the resources included with the product, or from our official website, and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.

To start off, I have the Deco BE36000 Mesh WiFi 7 system. I wanted to try this out to get more coverage in the backyard. First thing, right off the bat, I noticed that this device uses a DIFFERENT app than what my existing system uses, which is Deco. I thought that was weird, same ecosystem, but a different app? Anyways, the app is Tether, so I installed it, set up the device, but named the SSID the same as my existing network and I attempted to use the EasyMesh feature, but it does not work with my Deco BE3600.... This is annoying and frustrating considering that TP-Link boasts that the BE36000 is a mesh system, yet, this range extender with the same model name can't even properly mesh with my existing ecosystem? The speeds I got when connected to the device were atrocious. It just does not like being forced to try to mesh with my existing system. As a simple range extender, its great. But that is not what I need or want, I don't want a separate SSID, I want a one simple mesh system, which this fails to ultimately offer.

      Hi BPTech,

Thank you for your review. TP-Link Wi-Fi Range Extenders offer the ability to copy the Wi-Fi name and password of your original network, so your wireless devices can automatically connect between it and your router. You can conveniently do this during setup, or by using the Tether app.

While it will not directly integrate with the Deco ecosystem, proprietary Deco features, or the Deco app, the extended network operates within the same LAN as your router, so devices on the extender can conveniently communicate with devices connected to the router.
