The TP-Link BE3600 Wi-Fi Range Extender is a simple and effective device that took about 5 minutes to get connected and working. The one thing that I needed to do was download the tether app onto my phone which is on the Wi-Fi. I took the unit out of the box and plugged it in at a location I thought best. The antenna on top of the unit were already attached out of the box. I basically just moved them into a pre-set position. Depending on the current Wi-Fi environment and wall geometry, a person may need to try different antenna setups for the optimal connection. Or maybe try different wall receptacles. Once the unit powered up, I hopped on the tether app and connected it to the unit. It asked me to set the new password. After that, the unit took care of everything else and began extending the range of my home Wi-Fi. Of note, the unit does not show up as a different network which is nice. I noticed that my connection was completely stable, when before it would drop occasionally. There was also about a 20 percent increase in download/upload speed. Overall, I liked the TP-Link BE3600 Wi-Fi Range Extender because it did exactly what it advertised and the setup was so easy.

I am pleased with my new Dual Band Wi-Fi 7 range extender. Note the model number of this is the RB235BE. The "BE3600" designation means that the maximum wireless speed is 3600 Mbps, and of course the "BE" stands for the wireless tech 802.11be (what is now colloquially is known as Wi-Fi 7.
The unit came in a sturdy box and was easy to unpack. My disappointment came in the fact that this extender has a grounding plug. While that may be smart electrically, my previous TP-Link range extender (Wi-Fi 5 - yes it was time to upgrade) only had a two prong plug. This was a surprise and made it challenging for me due to the placement of the device in my setup. Most people probably will not have that challenge if the plug they plan to use is easily accessible; therefore, I did not knock of a star for it, but I think it is important to know it. For me, I was able to adapt, but my extender is not in my ideal location both aesthetically and functionally.
The other disappointment for which I almost knocked a star off is the lack of a user's manual - even on line via the support page. Yes, TP Link includes a quick installation guide and there are resources on the web site showing you how to configure. Having said, my previous TP-Link range extender had a very detailed 58 page PDF manual that you could download. This is a newly released device, so perhaps they will upload one soon? But for now, you are on your own figuring things out and piecing together FAQs to properly configure. For instance you may or may not want to use a different SSID for the range extender. I believe this is basic info that a consumer should hot have to search for.
Now that my "nits" are out of the way, I can confirm that the functionality of the extender is excellent. This is an "Easy Mesh" device that should easily (ahem) mesh with an Easy Mesh Router from different manufacturers. Fortunately for me, my Wi-Fi 7 router is also manufactured by TP-Link. Therefore, I am also able to obtain the benefits of this being a TP-Link "One-Mesh" configuration. So after going through the configurations on the TP-Link product setup web page, and toggling Easy Mesh to on, I was up and running pretty quickly. Again, I would have appreciated a more written step by step written guide on the best way to configure, but it was simple enough.
So now the best part - this device eliminated a dead zone in my house. My devices connect easily and the throughput is excellent. I have absolutely no complaints about the functionality of this device. Again, I was tempted to rate this a 4, but because the device comes "as advertised" and my devices seamlessly switch from router to extender, and the throughput is great, I will keep it as a 5 star rating.
SUMMARY:
Either way, this device is recommended if you have a WiFi7 Easy Mesh router and want to eliminate dead zones. It isn't inexpensive of course (and a cheaper WiFi 6 extender may suit you just fine), but if you want the latest and greatest, buy this.

Let me cut to the chase on this range extender. It just works! The thing about an item like this is that once you set it up, you really don't think about it much, but you reap the benefits of it.
I have a two-story house that is about 3300 sq ft, with a finished basement. The basement has always had a problem getting a consistently strong wireless connection. I am using a TP-Link BE16000 quad band mesh setup with three nodes. I thought that would be enough to blanket my entire house in wireless glory, but even with one node being located in the basement with a 50-foot Cat6 cable plugged into it from the main unit in the main floor office, I still drop signals or experience the dreaded circle of death. I originally purchased the TP Link RE715X and it worked well, but when I had the chance to get this one, I jumped on it and returned the other one.
Setup was extremely easy with the Tether app, but you need to plug it into an available ethernet port initially but once programmed you can move it to your desired location. You can even use the app to tell you if the extender is in a good location or if you need to move it closer to your router. In my case, the app tells me the signal is great and that I can actually move it further away from the router. I already have to "networks" with my existing mesh setup. One is strictly a 2.4ghz network and the other enables 2.4, 5 and 6ghz MLO networks. I can use the app to tell what devices are connected to the extender and I can also block anything that I don't want to connect.
There is also a security tab in the app that you can check for threats to your network, and you have the option to purchase their On-the-Go Antivirus software that is powered by Norton. I chose not to pay for the upgrade and just use standalone software that I installed. The app is very intuitive and easy to use. You can set the extender up as a router or extender, customize the Wi-Fi coverage, ECO mode and a few other options.
As I said in the beginning, this is just something that you setup and forget. I always knew when my connection was weak and got frustrated with it, but now that it just works, I don't think much about it. Thats the kind of tech I like. I really can't say enough about this device. It really has been a game changer for me and my family. I highly recommend this device.

The TP-Link BE3600 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 Range Extender represents the company's entry-level approach to next-generation wireless extension technology. As one of the more affordable Wi-Fi 7 range extenders available in 2025, the RE235BE targets consumers seeking to upgrade their network infrastructure without the premium price typically associated with cutting-edge wireless standards.
Design and Build Quality
The RE235BE follows TP-Link's traditional range extender aesthetic with a compact, wall-plug design that prioritizes functionality over visual appeal. The unit features a straightforward white plastic construction that blends discretely into most home environments. Like many budget-oriented networking devices, the build quality reflects its price point—adequate for residential use but lacking the robust construction found in enterprise-grade equipment.
The physical design includes standard LED indicators for power, signal strength, and connectivity status, providing users with essential feedback about the device's operational state. The compact form factor ensures the extender won't obstruct adjacent electrical outlets, a practical consideration often overlooked in competing products.
Technical Specifications and Performance
At the heart of the RE235BE lies dual-band Wi-Fi 7 technology capable of delivering theoretical speeds up to 3.6 Gbps. The speed allocation breaks down to approximately 2,882 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 688 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band. These specifications position the device as an entry-level Wi-Fi 7 solution, suitable for extending coverage in small to medium-sized homes.
The extender supports key Wi-Fi 7 features including Multi-Link Operation (MLO), 160 MHz bandwidth channels, 4K-QAM modulation, and Multi-RU functionality. However, users should note that accessing these advanced features requires compatible client devices that also support Wi-Fi 7 standards. For households with mixed device generations, the extender maintains backward compatibility with Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 5, and earlier standards.
Real-world performance typically falls short of theoretical maximums, as is standard across the industry. The dual-band configuration, while adequate for basic extension needs, cannot match the throughput capabilities of tri-band alternatives that include dedicated 6 GHz bands. This limitation becomes apparent in bandwidth-intensive applications or environments with numerous connected devices.
Setup and Configuration
TP-Link has streamlined the installation process through multiple configuration options. Users can choose between WPS button setup for quick deployment, the TP-Link Tether mobile application for guided installation, or traditional web-based configuration for advanced users. The Tether app, in particular, provides an intuitive interface that simplifies network extension for less technical users.
The setup process typically requires positioning the extender within range of the existing router while ensuring adequate signal strength for effective extension. The device's LED indicators assist with optimal placement, though I had to experiment with locations to achieve the best performance balance between source signal strength and extended coverage area.
Coverage and Range
The BE3600's effectiveness as a range extender depends heavily on the existing network infrastructure and physical environment. In my typical residential setting, the device can extend Wi-Fi coverage to eliminate dead zones in basements, upper floors, or distant rooms. However, the dual-band configuration limits its ability to maintain high speeds across extended distances compared to more expensive tri-band alternatives.
The 160 MHz bandwidth capability on the 5 GHz band provides improved data throughput when available, though this feature may not be accessible in all regions due to regulatory restrictions. The 2.4 GHz band offers better penetration through walls and obstacles but at significantly reduced speeds, making it suitable primarily for IoT devices and basic internet browsing.
Value Proposition and Market Position
The RE235BE occupies a unique position in the Wi-Fi 7 extender market as one of the most affordable options incorporating next-generation wireless technology. This pricing strategy makes Wi-Fi 7 features accessible to budget-conscious consumers who want to future-proof their networks without substantial investment.
However, the cost-cutting measures are evident in the device's performance limitations. Users seeking maximum throughput, tri-band functionality, or advanced features like 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports will need to consider higher-tier alternatives. The BE3600 serves best as a basic extension solution for households with modest bandwidth requirements and mixed device ecosystems.
Limitations and Considerations
Several factors limit the RE235BE's appeal for demanding users. The dual-band configuration restricts simultaneous high-speed connections on both frequency bands. The absence of dedicated backhaul bands means the extender must share bandwidth between client connections and router communication, potentially reducing overall network efficiency.
Additionally, the device may not support all mandatory Wi-Fi 7 features as defined by IEEE 802.11be specifications, with some functionality potentially requiring future firmware updates. This uncertainty could affect long-term feature availability and compatibility with emerging Wi-Fi 7 devices.
Conclusion
The TP-Link BE3600 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 Range Extender delivers entry-level Wi-Fi 7 functionality at an accessible price point. While it lacks the advanced features and robust performance of premium alternatives, it successfully introduces next-generation wireless technology to budget-conscious consumers. The device serves best in scenarios requiring basic range extension with modest performance expectations rather than demanding applications requiring maximum throughput and advanced Wi-Fi 7 capabilities.
For users prioritizing affordability and basic Wi-Fi 7 compatibility over peak performance, the RE235BE represents a reasonable entry point into next-generation wireless networking. However, those with higher performance requirements or complex network needs should consider more capable alternatives despite the increased cost.

Recently upgraded my whole home wifi from broadband to fiber optic. So far I don’t really notice the difference between the two. Mainly, because I have yet to run cat cables through my attic into the rooms containing my families devices and PCs. There are 2 spots we’ve found in our house that are more dead than dead zones. They are both in our upstairs level. The router is located centrally on the main level but even so it doesn’t seem to matter. I just bought an ethernet switch for when I run the cable. For now, I picked up this TP-Link BE3600 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 Range Extender to see if it would alleviate the issue in our upper level.
Now I’m wondering if I really need to run the cat cable. This thing is awesome, and so easy to set up. Dead zones are gone now completely. This comes as no surprise as I own other TP-Link products and they’ve never let me down. That’s it, I don’t know what else to say in this review other than THANK YOU TP-Link for solving my issue with another great product!
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking to extend their internet service coverage area. Before I forget, for reference, my home is a tri-level, and its roughly 3,000 sq-FT. There’s a basement in half the home’s floor plan, and I have not internet connectivity issues down there either. Can’t go wrong with this wi-fi extender!

Easy to set up. It steps you through the process and even if you aren’t tech savvy it seems straightforward. There is an app the corresponds with it and it validates that it is working. I honestly can’t say that it made a huge difference. I was hoping areas where things weren’t loading properly or buffering for a long time would be corrected. It hasn’t changed this. I was hoping it would bring the internet out by my pool, it did not work for that either. So although it is easy to install it only appears to make a minor change in the overall working of the system. In fairness there is a company laying fiber in my neighborhood and I question if they are messing with coverage since I have never had the level of issues I have had lately which is why I sought out this device. It takes up half of a power outlet and has four blue lights so it is not discreet. It has you install it close to your router and then move it to where your problem area is and hope that it is close enough to connect back.

Hi Mary,
Thank you for your review. If you haven't noticed a significant improvement in Wi-Fi coverage after installing the extender, we recommend relocating the unit to a position within your home where the router's Wi-Fi signal is sufficiently strong; yet far enough from the router to effectively extend its range. Please verify the RE status LED is indicating a solid connection.
We also recommend ensuring the extender's firmware is fully up to date using the steps outlined in FAQ 1406 on our official website: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1406/
Alternatively, our Deco Mesh Systems have Outdoor options, such as the Deco X50-Outdoor and Deco BE65-Outdoor, which offer weatherproof Mesh Wi-Fi coverage for your outdoor areas.
If you would like assistance with your TP-Link networking devices, please reach out to our support team using any of the resources included with the product, or from our official website, and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.

To start off, I have the Deco BE36000 Mesh WiFi 7 system. I wanted to try this out to get more coverage in the backyard. First thing, right off the bat, I noticed that this device uses a DIFFERENT app than what my existing system uses, which is Deco. I thought that was weird, same ecosystem, but a different app? Anyways, the app is Tether, so I installed it, set up the device, but named the SSID the same as my existing network and I attempted to use the EasyMesh feature, but it does not work with my Deco BE3600.... This is annoying and frustrating considering that TP-Link boasts that the BE36000 is a mesh system, yet, this range extender with the same model name can't even properly mesh with my existing ecosystem? The speeds I got when connected to the device were atrocious. It just does not like being forced to try to mesh with my existing system.
As a simple range extender, its great. But that is not what I need or want, I don't want a separate SSID, I want a one simple mesh system, which this fails to ultimately offer.

Hi BPTech,
Thank you for your review. TP-Link Wi-Fi Range Extenders offer the ability to copy the Wi-Fi name and password of your original network, so your wireless devices can automatically connect between it and your router. You can conveniently do this during setup, or by using the Tether app.
While it will not directly integrate with the Deco ecosystem, proprietary Deco features, or the Deco app, the extended network operates within the same LAN as your router, so devices on the extender can conveniently communicate with devices connected to the router.
