I have always loved the idea of networking over power lines. It's a great idea since all homes are pre-wired for electricity and when you need an Ethernet connection for a computer or other device, there is always an outlet nearby since the computer or device will need power itself. The TP-LINK TL-PA7020 is perfect for this job and has an excellent price to top it off. Unlike a lot of the higher end Powerline networking devices this is a down-n-dirty, basic way to provide an Ethernet connection in an area of your house where you don't currently have network access. These are dead simple to get up and running. With other devices I've tried, you have to pair the devices beforehand and/or perform other steps before you can use them, these are ready to go out of the box. Both units are the same, simply plug one of the connect one of the units to a LAN port on your router/switch and plug it in to an outlet. Then, plug the other TL-PA7020 device into the outlet where you need access. Your device(s) needing network connections can then be plugged into it. That's all! Since each device can either be the transmitter or the receiver, you can buy multiple kits and pair them all together. While 1 pack allows one remote connection, every additional pack you buy gives you two more since they can pair to the original device connected to the router. Some caveats...Powerline network devices need to be on the same circuit in order to even come close to the advertised speeds. For me, the speed reduction when not on the same circuit was less than half of what it was when it was on the same circuit. One the same circuit I was seeing over 250 Mbps while on a different circuit it dropped below 100 Mbps. TP-LINK also has an app, tpPLC, that you can use to monitor the Powerline network and its speeds. So, it really depends on your houses wiring as to how beneficial these can be. My newer house has a huge circuit panel and many different circuits and it just didn't work out for me. I gave this device 5 stars anyway since this is not a flaw of this particular product, but that of Powerline networking in general. Submitted as part of a free sample program.
