"Transmissions" is out of this world!

Starset's debut album "Transmissions" goes beyond ambitious. Any band that dares to release a concept album their first time out is quite bold to begin with, but Starset takes bold to the next level. The package promises "60 minutes of thought-provoking cinematic rock", and "Transmissions" certainly delivers this in full! Between the sprawling orchestral movements intertwining with the heavy rock guitars and lead singer Dustin Bates' narrative lyrics and passionate vocals, "Transmissions" sets the stage as a lone astronaut embarks on a mysterious mission. Just like a movie, each track sets a different tone and atmosphere, keeping you listening the entire time. From the hard rocking opener "Down With the Fallen" and 30 Seconds To Mars-inspired single "My Demons" to the gripping ballads like "Dark On Me", the 60-minute runtime goes by in a flash, and demands immediate repeating. What I was hoping more of was a deeper exploration of the universe Starset created specifically for the album in the liner notes. Upon opening the CD, the words "All content has been approved for release by The Starset Society". The problem is that there is no explanation as to who or what The Starset Society is. None of their websites offer any clarification on this, and, admittedly, I enjoy the intrigue that offers. I guess I was just hoping for a little explanation. However, this does not detract from how amazing this album is. At this price, this is one debut album you cannot miss, especially since this is easily one of the best albums of the year. If you enjoy amazing rock and/or you're a fan of bands like Deftones and 30 Seconds to Mars, Starset will quickly become your new favorite band!

I discovered these guys at a In This Moment concert. Here is my initial response to seeing them walk out on stage: Stage looks like the inside of a space ship. Enter several guys in space suits. HA what a bunch of posers. Within minutes of the first song, these guys sure showed me how wrong I was to judge them. I cannot remember being more impressed by a band live. I have been to about 400 concerts. These guys made me a fan of the band within minutes of their set. Very very incredible show. I instantly went home and bought the cd. Buy it. its a work of art

Transmissions is a great piece of work from these guys. The album is cohesive from start to finish, love the imagery portrayed by the music and all the effects. This album is alot like 30 Seconds to Mars first album, except it's a lot heavier and a bit more polished. Favorite tracks include Down With The Fallen, Carnivore, My Demons, Halo, Telescope, It Has Begun, Antigravity and Rise and Fall. These guys put on a spectacular live show as well, definitely recommend this album to modern rock fans.

I really enjoyed this band. It took me a couple listens to connect their ability to combine gorgeous electric orchestrations with rockin' melodies, but when I did I found the combinations to be both hauntingly beautiful and the songs to be truly stellar. The perfect amount of memorable melodies, guitar riffs, strong rhythms and solid vocal production. This group holds many hidden treasures- a must listen! In the top 5 for 2013 newer bands!

I liked the CD. Its one of those Electronic Rock Genres you kind of have to be in the mood to listen too. I own this and their newest album. I think they are pretty good. I play it at work in the background. All in all a different sound, maybe not for everyone. Kind of reminds me of Lincoln Park in some ways.

i gave this an average rating due to the fact that i wasn't blown away with the whole album. The few songs on the radio are great but the rest of the album didn't really grab my attention. Its good for background noise

A great sounding band full of rock and at times the sounds of an orchestra in the background. Like an opera for science fiction.
