i gave this an average rating due to the fact that i wasn't blown away with the whole album. The few songs on the radio are great but the rest of the album didn't really grab my attention. Its good for background noise

"Transmissions" is out of this world!

Starset's debut album "Transmissions" goes beyond ambitious. Any band that dares to release a concept album their first time out is quite bold to begin with, but Starset takes bold to the next level.
The package promises "60 minutes of thought-provoking cinematic rock", and "Transmissions" certainly delivers this in full! Between the sprawling orchestral movements intertwining with the heavy rock guitars and lead singer Dustin Bates' narrative lyrics and passionate vocals, "Transmissions" sets the stage as a lone astronaut embarks on a mysterious mission.
Just like a movie, each track sets a different tone and atmosphere, keeping you listening the entire time. From the hard rocking opener "Down With the Fallen" and 30 Seconds To Mars-inspired single "My Demons" to the gripping ballads like "Dark On Me", the 60-minute runtime goes by in a flash, and demands immediate repeating.
What I was hoping more of was a deeper exploration of the universe Starset created specifically for the album in the liner notes. Upon opening the CD, the words "All content has been approved for release by The Starset Society". The problem is that there is no explanation as to who or what The Starset Society is. None of their websites offer any clarification on this, and, admittedly, I enjoy the intrigue that offers. I guess I was just hoping for a little explanation.
However, this does not detract from how amazing this album is. At this price, this is one debut album you cannot miss, especially since this is easily one of the best albums of the year. If you enjoy amazing rock and/or you're a fan of bands like Deftones and 30 Seconds to Mars, Starset will quickly become your new favorite band!
