Great game. Remake of Secret of Mana 3 which was never released here. Game features many characters and has no real one main character. You can choose who you like and meet the others as you play. This provides great replay value. Don't feel like your missing out if you only play once. you can see the bulk story of everyone if you like as you play through if you want to only once. I fully recommend this for fans of ARPGs. Its a great game that was so popular it had fan translations of it and inspired people to learn japanese just so they could play it. If you want to play the original snes/super famicom version its on collection of mana. This is a Squaresoft/SquareEnix

This is a remake of an older game that never came to the USA until now. SquareEnix has released a demo for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Give the demo a try if you are not sure about buying this game. The game costs 50 dollars at Best Buy. I'm a little over half way through this game at about 15 hours and really enjoying it. The battle system is very good. The graphics are good and the audio is good as well. The only thing that is off is the voice acting... it is bad. But I,m getting used to it. There is an option for Japanese vocals with English subtitles. I recommend this to any RPG fan.

Really enjoying this game the graphics are beautiful the combat is different and fresh compared to alot of rpg I have played its similar style to star ocean and final fantasy 12 on ps2 were you attack and your team mates join In but the items is different to revive and heal e.t.c you press the up on your D pad characters all have background story you can choose to do or just carry on but it does add bit more to gameplay if you did as you get to know each character they start to grow on ya love the anime style and cut scenes and the fact they added English voice you can choose the original voice Japanese and the story unfolds as you go and it makes you wanna play more as you wanna know what happens next very cool indeed One of my top 10 games totally loving it

Perfect remake of the classic beloved SNES game. You wont want to miss this if you are a Square Enix fan! The story is compelling and the visuals are perfectly translated into the modern era. The music is so dearing!

When I was a teen, my friends found out about the Seiken Densetsu 3 fan translation and emulated game and we played it on our computers as best we could, but I always wished we could play a real version of the game. I loved Secret of Mana, too, so flash forward like 15 years later and I knew I had to get this game! I think they did an excellent job with the art style and music. I think this is a very fun game and reminds me of a great era of similar RPGs. For the time this was a very interesting story and game, and I think they did a great job remaining faithful to the original while updating! Couldn't ask for much more than that.

I never played the original but this is an amazing game. Great story, fun gameplay, with replay value. Would love to see them remake the first one in this style or maybe a couple Final Fantasy titles. Definitely a must play!!

*spoilers ahead* This game has many positives. Nice visual upgrades. All the three dimensional settings are very accurate per memory of the original SFC game and emulations/repros played. There is actual jumping over terrain and jumping down from ledges. Now with 12 save slots instead of the original 3 slots. This version has actual Treasure Chest discovery/hunting. Back up inventory management is improved. Leveling seems to be easier in this remade version for faster playthroughs. The tiered seeds and seed growing system is improved making it useful and advantageous to use it frequently earlier on. Improved variety and accessibility of accessory equipment. The addition of Lil’cactus has actual rewards, not just a poem happy sprite like in another old Mana remake. This version does have a handholding method via golden stars depicting the modern “go here next” which is welcome considering how obscure the original seiken densetsu 3 was on who how what and where for story progression, even with an English translation. It is nice to have optional dialogue with secondary characters while in town limits. And the elemental names are “Sylphid” and “Salamando” again... small yay. Also on the positive side, the vibration feature can be turned off. On the fence as to whether I like the new enemy loot drop system versus the old random treasure carousel method; the booby traps and chance at mimics based on Luck stat was part of the appeal. On the fence about post game chapter and new ascended job classes, but the unlockable new game plus is kind of neat. On the fence about the option to reset job classes; that was part of the replay value originally. And now the bad... Actual load times are a minor inconvenience. Changing back and forth from day to night is reminiscent of “what a horrible night for a curse.” The colored jars added for various recovery types may be a bit too much handholding. The ring menu doesn’t seem as effective as it once was. Takes far longer to charge class attack meter. Much of the voice acting gets old/annoying quickly; remember reading dialogue in role playing games... or does anyone remember reading at all anymore? However, all added cinematic scenes and dialogue are skippable, both an advantage and a disadvantage. An advantage if repeating a scene or just trying to avoid listening to the nails on a chalkboard that a few characters have for voices *cough* Charlotte, Niccolo, vampire guy. A huge disadvantage if you bump a button by accident. Also, the game settings allow for voice sound level to be adjusted independently from music and sound effects to compensate. Not too thrilled about the repeatable error that closed my game each time I finished off the Black Rabite. I genuinely recommend this Trials of Mana remake to other players. Overall, this is a great remake, too bad this team didn’t work on another remake released this year of a 1997 classic game.

Only a few hours in so it's hard to make do a review for an rpg based on so little time, but so far I'm enjoying this one quite a bit. Solid gameplay and looks gorgeous on the small screen in portable mode.

New to the series. Currently slowly replaying on PC. Things I liked: - Gameplay. Relatively dynamic combat compared to turn-based combat - both have their places but I really like the combat system here - Story that is easy to understand and get into as someone who's new to the series (though more on this later) - Replay-ability - Map sizes seem to be just right. No crazy hour long dungeon crawling but also nothing that is too short. - Character dialogues and interaction - at least with the ones I've seen so far - Map diversity. I like the different locations in the game. Things I didn't like: - That bird thing with petripeak like bruh - Story. It's a bit uninspiring and cheesy. Things I'm so-so: - Characters. Most characters are a bit boring, generic, and forgettable. Some aren't like Angela, and her story and her relationship with her mother.

I played Seiken Densetsu 3 as a kid and playing Trials of Mana helped satisfy my nostalgia and more. Trials of Mana does not stray away from the original game: the story is the same, the characters are the same, and the combat is more or less the same. Trials of Mana just looks better, it is 3D, it sounds better, and there is a new feature - unlocked abilities with stat upgrades (which allows you to think of different strategies with respect to character build and team build). I will definitely play this game multiple times to learn the story of every character and try out different builds.

The story, gameplay, and RPG elements are all great, but they're hindered by janky animations and terrible voice acting. It's a good port though; it runs at a smooth framerate, but takes a small hit in the graphics department.

I remember playing a fan translation of SM3 and found it OK, but at the time the game wasn't as compelling as SM1. Now the Trials of Mana remake of the game is totally worth the experience, and I recommend any SM fan to check it out!

I thought the gme was pretty good over all, but I found the voice of Charlotte very annoying so I would avoid choosing her. The gameplay was pretty good, and the music was pretty good, so I would say go for it.

Been waiting for a while for this game to go on sale since the demo they have on the eshop was brilliant. Finally was able to pick it up and just like the demo, the game is great. Multiple story playthoughs mean the replayability of this game will last for a really long time and the performance on the switch is solid and the graphics on the switch is actually not that far from the other versions; fidelity is great both docked and undocked.

I highly recommend Trials of Mana to any fan of the Mana series. Though I never did actually finish the SNES version, the bit that I did play through closely matched up with the storyline as I played through the remake. The zones/maps aren’t quite identical matches to the original, but this of course doesn’t exactly bother me. If anything, I feel it helps add a layer of freshness to the game. I love the beautiful graphics and audio. The remake versions of the music tracks aren’t as wildly different from their original counterparts as those in the Secret of Mana remake. I actually don’t mind the voice acting that others have called cheesy, but then perhaps I’m just getting old and tired of having to read walls of text in RPGs. I like it when games speak their lines so I don’t have to read them all. Combat feels very fluid and satisfying, though I have found it a little easy to feel overwhelmed when fighting some bosses, as it’s hard to keep track of what your other party members are doing at all times. One other thing that’s both nice and annoying at the same time: there is constantly a waypoint indicator showing you where to go. There’s also an on-screen objective indicator telling you what to do next, but it can be turned off via the options menu. I also turned off the mini-map so as to hide one of the waypoint indicators, because unless I get stuck for an inordinate length of time, I like to find things out on my own. Finally, there doesn’t seem to be quite the XP grind necessary as in the SNES version of the game. Granted, I do tend to make a few passes through each area to gain an extra level or two rather than blazing through every area just one time, but it seems to be working out for me. Overall, I think this is a great game, especially on the Switch since it’s so easy to pick up and put down.
