    Great Show!

First of all, I can't bash the show because it's truly an awesome show that is highly addictive and has a compelling storyline. The actors, the writers, and the plot allows everyone to understand and relate to since it is written in modern times. The thing I will bash is the Blu-ray packaging. The packaging is bulky. The DVD season 1 collection has 5 DVDs. So why does Blu-ray which can have up to 25 or 50 gigs worth of space need 5 discs for 12 episodes that are under an hour long? It should've been 3 Blu-ray discs and not 5. This makes it annoying because there's only 2 or 3 episodes per disc which makes changing each disc an annoying hassle. Don't understand why they did this only because of the packaging since the length of the cover requires 5 disc spread out covers or it'll have to be reduced to a smaller cover if it was a 3 disc set. The extras aren't that great. The extra where it includes the map of where the characters are at during the duration of the episode is just a stupid method to add something on there which isn't necessary at all. You can tell where they're at since the plot is well written. It's not like it's all secret of where the location of the characters are. I got this set because of the quality. It was an extra $5 than the DVD collection when it was on sale. It was worth it considering the quality.

    Well-made series

Regardless if you've read the series of books or not, this production of Charlaine Harris' "Dead Until Dark" is very well done. I usually have grave doubts about Hollywood's ability to tell a story from a well-known book with any resemblance of its plot, setting, or characters, but HBO's got this one done pretty well. The storyline is about 90% true to the first book's plot, but the changes are well within scope of what can be handled, i.e. they enhance the story, rather than detract from it. Anna Paquin plays Sookie so well that I couldn't see anyone playing the part but her, and the same goes for Stephen Moyer playing Bill (The Vampire). All of the other characters were very well cast and have obviously studied their book counterparts well. The only one who didn't was the young lady playing Tara's role, who has a much more expanded role in the TV series than in the book, so she has the fun of creating her own version of the character as she goes. I listened to the commentaries by the producer on that and it made good sense as to why he expanded her role that way in the TV series. So, as long as you can handle a few nicely done adult-only scenes and are not squimish about blood and vampire fangs, this is a must-see for everyone.

I LOVE this show. I had never heard of it till it came out on DVD, probably because I have no cable and it airs on HBO. I watched them online first, and couldn't get enough. I went right out on a mission to buy this DVD season and watch it again. The show is posed to be based off a book series but I have never read them, they say the show is so different (not bad) from the books that I dont want to ruin it, I will probably read the books after the shows over though, just to compare. This show has everything a show should SE*, Blood, Vampires, Love, Creatures, Se*, Music, etc... Its SOOOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME! When I move I am going to get cable just to watch this show. Its that magnificent! I'm not doing this show any justice. If you like Se* and love stories, you'll love this show. You won't be disappointed. :) I Recommend TRUE BLOOD to EVERYONE!!! P.S. * are X's

the series is very cute and draws you in almost immiditly after the first episode. one would think that a series about a mortal girl falling in love with a vampire would be chessy but actually the way the seires is set up it all falls into place quite, nicely and like any real couple, Bill and Sookie have their own issues that no is ever quite sure if they will or will not be sorted out. the thing that I personally liked quite a bit from this series is I go and play role playing games with friends of mine that is called "the world of darkness" its published by a company called White Wolf. For the most part the base game that most people like to play is called Vampire the requiem, but there are other things that go bump in the night, such as werewolves, changelings, and all kinds of other things, and True Blood certainly gives the idea that, that is whats going on in their wold as well just because you know some things about vampires does not necessarily mean you know everything, there are other things just waiting to be found lurking around corners and thats its draw point.

Started watching this on demand and they took it off only got the first one watched so i had to go out and get this . Of course i had to get it on Blu - Ray it has all kinda of extra stuff the dvd does 'nt have it can 't compete with Blu -Ray from the picture to the rest of it . The show is awesome it brings you in and never lets go a big part of the first season is introducing you to the charcters it 's very well written and the actors who play them are very good . It has you wanting more after every episode so you want to keep watching so you can find out more stuff about what 's going on . Anna who plays Sookie Stackhouse is the only big name in this i never heard of any other the people but that does ' nt mean anything .

True Blood is based on a series of novels written by an Arkansas writer. It focuses on a young woman who's able to hear the thoughts of others. The creator and executive producer is Alan Ball so you can expect a quality show. It is highly addicting but there's a lot of nudity and sexu@l situations and obviously violence and that's obviously to be expected on a show about vampires so just prepare for that. What's good about this show is it gives it a "human" feel to it so if you're not usually into vampire stories, you'll still enjoy this tremendously!

I just bought the DVD set for Season 1 because I noticed it was on sale this week at Best Buy. I absolutely love Season 1 and because I no longer have HBO I have not been keeping up with Season 2, although I do intend on purchasing it when it comes out as well! This series is hands down my favorite t.v. show ever, every Sunday (when I did have HBO) I would wait for it to be 9pm eastern so I could get my fix. "I'm SOOO hooked!!!" The acting leaves a little to be desired but the plot is just so entertaining I really don't mind. Bill the vampire is hot, the show is awesome, and I would definately recommend!!!

This is definitely one of HBO's finest series. To be fair, I was skeptical when I did some research before seeing the series. But now, I'm hooked! My wife and I absolutely love this show. It has the right mixture of drama, comedy, and horror to appeal to most HBO watchers. All of the characters are interesting in their own way. And, their stories are tied together brilliantly. A must own for any DVD set buyer. Note: I wouldn't recommend this for any kids/teens that are into the whole Twilight mania. While True Blood is similar, it has a fair amount of adult language, drug use/references, nudity, etc.

I had not seen the show b/f I ordered in from Best Buy. I read the reviews from this site and I had to check it out....well, needless to say, I watched the whole 1st season in 2 days! lol. I couldnt step away from the TV, it is that good. I am currently waiting for the 2nd season, as I have only seen a couple of shows of that season from HBO's re-runs but I will definately be caught up b/f the 3rd season starts in May. Just remember, keep an open mind about watching the show and have fun! Take care, fellow True Blood Fans!

My husband is a Vampire enthusiast so we see a lot of the movies but a series just seemed like it would be to much for me, not being a fan myself, but I was plesantly surprised. The charaters are all very realistic and everyone has so many secrets that the "Vampire coming out" business doesn't cause the mass histeria you think it would. It's full of lies, deseption and heavy on the drama so your constantly entertained...although they leave you hanging waiting for season two. Pay close attention, you may leran somethings about vapires you never knew.

I love this show. It's has a strong cast and great acting. I love the score for the show as well. I adore the secondary characters such as Lafayette (always in stitches when he's on screen) and Sam. It's not geared towards kids/young teens. It is on HBO after all. There's a lot of blood, violence, hard language, and nudity. But again, it's on HBO. True Blood is great for anyone over 17. The show is true to the book series, but at the same time can stand on its own. I highly recommend this series to anyone fascinated by the vampire genre.

I am a Sookie Stackhouse fan and have read all the books in the series and short stories by Charlaine Harris. The hints and audio commentary included on the blue-ray version I purchased were great for those in my family that watched the DVDs but had not read the books. it was probably a better experience for them at first than for me because they had not read the books because there are things in the series that don't follow the story line from the books. Overall, I was pleased by the purchase. I look forward to my next purchase.

    Too Nude

A nice bit of Vampire fluff. It seems especially popular with the ladies who crave vampire films brimming with repressed (and not so repressed) sexuality. Notwithstanding, the cast seems up to the task and are often quite entertaining. I did find myself fastforwarding through most of the nude scenes as they did become quite frequent and distracting. Oddly enough, it seems the supporting cast were much more entertaining than the leads. Not one for the kiddies. Definitely worth the purchase price and a good addition to your library.

I have only watched the first 2 episodes so far but I love the story line. I haven't gone all nuts about all the vampire movies that have been coming out, in fact I haven't gone to see any of them. But I love this. Louisiana is the prefect setting for a vampire series with all the voodoo mumbo jumbo in New Orleans. This isn't set in NOLA though it is further north. The southern accents of the characters are way way off and sound very phony but if you just ignore that the plot and story line is good.

I love this series and finally decided to purchase Season 1. Ordering was simple and I received the product within a week. I am completely enthralled in this series!! You can almost feel the Louisiana heat & the dialogue is so delicious and surprisingly funny!! They always hook you at the end of an episode to continue watching. Whether it is the first time you have seen the series or are watching it again, it is still just as juicy and exciting.

I got addicted to True Blood even before the season started on HBO. The previews got me hooked! I wasn't much of a fan of Alan Ball's until he introduced me to the characters in Bon Temps, Louisiana. The show is based (some-what loosely) on the Charlaine Harris "Southern Vampire" book series. Although I much prefer the novels to the show, True Blood is still worth the watch with its riviting and likeable characters even if the acting is not exactly the greatest.

I ended watching True Blood due to a friend review of the show. He is not the guy that enjoyed vampire stuff and he was hooked with it. It is a very entertaining show and my wife (which i kind of forced her to watch - she does not enjoy much vampire stuff) she enjoyed it a lot. We never got the chance to see it on HBO. glad it was not a waste of money.

I love the show, & even catch myself fussing at the charaters as they make stupid decisions... And Yes I am from south Louisiana. I do cringe when I hear a BAD accent that sounds very fake, or just horrable!!! But For the most part I just love the story line, Sookie, and all her trials and tribulations. And the scenery is just beautiful because it is filmed in my home state!!!

The first and perhaps best season of "True Blood" gets a nice visual bump in the Blu-ray format, though it's not exactly a night-to-day upgrade. The bonus features are fine, though the commentaries don't add much to the experience. If you can handle the blood, guts and gutter language, the well-crafted show is worth a look.
