    Alice in Chains is Back!

After the death of Layne Staley, I really never thought I would see the day another Alice in Chains album would drop, let alone a good one. This has the classic Alice in Chains sound in every song, with a nice polish for a good, crisp sound. They are good at mixing the flow and tempo up with a few slower, melo songs but can still rock out with throwing a few faster paced, harder rock tunes on the record. I would recommend any fan of Alice in Chains of years past check out the new record, I highly doubt they will be dissapointed. My only complaint is the cover art leaves a little to be desired. Then again, I don't buy a CD for the art work outside, just whats inside.

Album captures AIC's essence even sans Layne

I joined the AIC fanbase late in their career with the Jar of Flies EP. Filling in the rest of my collection can't go without this album. I was sorry for Layne's passing, I would have loved to see them live. I'm happy to have them back after a long absence. Some people say you can't replace Layne. True but would you rather have nothing from AIC or for them to start a new chapter with a new singer? I say go for it. The album still sounds like old AIC but Duvall's vocals are a welcome new sound.

Mostly great album, I have listened constantly since I got it. I believe the new singer does Layne justice, and also agree that it does sound very similar to Jerry Cantrell's solo work. The overall tone of the album is much more akin to Jar of Flies than other albums in my opinion. The band tastefully added William DuVall years before recording this cd to be sure that he is an honorable fit. And fit in he does, not as replacement, but as an addition to the band. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

This is a great album for having a new singer and it being their first studio album in about 13 years.
