I adored Valkyria Chronicles. So much so that I bought a PSP just to play the sequel. I couldn't believe that I'd finally see a new chapter in what I think is one of the last generation's greatest games (especially on my Xbox One). Initially a tale of joy, once the wrapper for the game came off....it slowly turns into a story of woe.
The great characters of the previous games are swapped out for inexpressive puppets. There's what can be considered voice acting, but it is ear bleedingly bad. The battle system is bafflingly obtuse, like a blend of the previous games and Dynasty Warriors...yet much, much worse than either.
The graphics look to me like they tried to port the old PSP engine to the current gen of systems but didn't bother to optimize past "hey it seems to work". But the worst aspect of the game is the loading.... It seems to load every 15 seconds. Play for 5 minutes...now loading....cutscene for 10 seconds...now loading....another cutscene for 20 seconds...now loading...brooding cutscene for 2 minutes..now loading...repeat over and over. It is maddening! In 5 minutes of gameplay, you'll see at least 14 now loading screens.
I so wish this was what I was hoping for, but it seems to me like a half baked cash grab. Still Sega gave me something, so I'll give it 2 stars. However, unless you are a diehard Valkyria fan....and really even if you are, skip it.

New spin for it, does keep a few things, real time does not work as much as in mind for clearing battles

This seems like a fun game if you can tolerate all the cutscenes. The first hour and a half is basically all cutscenes. Seriously...1 hr 24mins of playtime logged and I actually got to play about 7 mins of that and it was just the tutorial. I stopped listening at about the 20 min mark and just let it run while I worked online and would just hit confirm when needed. I have no idea where I'm at in the story now but I finally reached the city to actually play!...hopefully. If not, I may have to ditch the game and move on to something else. I don't have the patience for all that.

Tons of options for weapon tier upgrades, linear gameplay so far so not to confusing. All around great Sega game.

This game is for JRPG fans especially if you like tactical style of play. For the price it's a solid game.

This is an alright game, but it pales in comparison to the original Valkyria series, or presumably the upcoming 4. But, the graphics are decent, the story is ok, and the music is on point as usual. The combat is the worst part, being not completely action AND not completely turn based. But it's not bad if you're starved for a new JRPG on Xbox One.

If you're into hack n' slash games and just constant story then this is for you. Super repetitive and it's really just a Valkyria game in name only cuz the battle system is just a totally different genre.

Got it for $8. It's worth that, but not much more. Long load times, stinker of a story and the characters are bland with little development.

Loved to get the Pin and the game is enjoyable but can be a bit clunky and hard to move around in similar to Tales games or previous Valkyria games.

The game starts off with a bunch of uninteresting cutscenes and continues to have them quite frequently, even during missions. The story follows typical anime tropes and if you skip it, you really miss nothing. You have to skip around six cutscenes and wait for the game to load forever between each mission and most of anything you do between missions is just busy work.

I was really looking forward to this game since it was announced but when I got it things change. The price itself will tell you because it's not a full price game and thankfully so. The game cutscenes are long and boring, most of the time you don't know who's talking because they are all just standing there and their mouths barely move. The combat it's pretty fun but the rest of the game is just boring. If you want a good Valkyrie game go get Valkyrie chronicles.

This is a very fun game with cool characters and great story. If you like JRPGs and action combat, this is a good choice. It has a mix of action RPG mechanics with tactical options as well.
The story and characters are nicely developed and detailed. You really grow to care about them and want to see how their stories will end. This is accompanied by a great sound track and beautiful visuals.
