    Affordable with quirks

Android L for less than 100$. Plays games and videos well. Sense Home is the default launcher but it can be replaced. The phone face has two speaker grills as the HTC One but only the bottom speaker sounds when playing media. The top speaker is the ear piece/speaker phone and does not sound in media playback. Auto brightness is dark more than adequate and the ringer volume isn't very loud in a crowded room. Finally, 8GB memory is becoming more and more of a constraint (you can put in a SD card, but most large apps insist on being on the embedded memory.). Some of these may not be issues for you but are good to know before buying this. As HTC is falling out of favor in the US market, don't expect to find precut screen protectors or cases for this phone in stores. This won't be a popular device.

Need another $30 to use on a post paid plan

I don't expect much for a $35 phone - but it took me a couple of phone calls to figure out that I need to spend another $30 to activate the phone on the prepaid plan first before I can use it with my Verizon post paid plan. There is no visual voicemail support, no WiFi calling support. It also seems to have worse reception than my other Verizon phones. (2 bars vs full 5 bars) Also note that this phone is locked to Verizon's network and you can NOT use it with other carriers even after you activate it on the Verizon prepaid plan. Otherwise it is everything that you'd expect from a low-end Android phone - plenty of bloatware that you cannot delete, very slow and unresponsive, poor battery life. For $65, it is still an OK phone.

    Excellent phone for under $100

Being tight with my money, I knew that finding a good quality smartphone for under $100 was going to be hit-or-miss at best. Never hearing of HTC before, I read up on the Desire 526 and decided to give it a try. Best Buy had the phone on sale for $69.99 (regularly $89.99) so I went ahead and picked it up. The phone is a tad on the "heavy" side so be warned if you plan on carrying the phone in your pocket or look into a decent holster/phone case for protection. The phone comes with the "standard" 8GB storage and I haven't had any issues with apps on the Android Lollipop 5.1 OS installed. For the price, this phone can't compare to the more expensive and fancier phones, but if you want a cheap no-contract phone which lets you call people and do Internet-related activity on it then the Desire 526 should meet most demands.

    Excellent Device

This is a good device, It has 1.5 GB of RAM and a Quad-core 1.1 GHz which is a plus, it has a pretty good 2mp front camera, the speaker is really loud (in my opinion), and overall the performance with Android 5.1 with HTC Sense 7 is solid. You really get the bang for your buck with this one!

    Just NOT Happy...

I bought this htc Desire 526 Smartphone after my MotoG stopped working. Soon after installing the Apps I did have on the MotoG and contacts, I found SOME contacts did not have phone numbers anymore. This could be my fault, NOT the phone. When the ringer is turned on, and up, I do not hear it ring at times. The volume is up, and I checked the app, and found everything right, but at times it does not ring. During a phone call, as I am talking, the person is cut off, and I hear another contact being called. Today I was on hold waiting for my insurance agent, as I was holding the phone to my ear, it connected to Verizon telling me my Data usage... I had to call him back. I press the button on the side to turn the screen "Black" and put this in my pocket. After a few minuets Pandora is playing...or it calls a contact. Sometimes the volume is turned off to "Do not Disturb Mode" and I miss everything.... When I was in a town just north of here, I would have lost contact with my Data many times, but never did with my MotoG. Sorry, I do not like this Smartphone.... I am taking it back today, after having it for 13 days....

I have purchased my second phone from best buy. The first time we went and bought two. My husband had gotten a motto phone and not even two months in, he woke up to a black screen. Best Buy helped us and gave us store credit because they couldn't even figure out why. Now this new phone that was bought the HTC through version, has low memory and ate all of my data as soon as it was activated. And not even two weeks in of having the phone, I can't download any apps at all!!! I have plenty of data and enough space, but it is popping up an error on everything I try to download!! Very disappointed in the best buy phones as of now!!!!

This phone could be a good budget phone but because of such limited storage it has issues! 2nd day, this phone dropped several calls, shut down and restarted itself while trying to make a call and when it rebooted, it erased all the apps I had installed. Very frustrating :/
