for the love of god just don’t buy it

i didn’t buy this razor. my brother bought this razor. it’s currently half past midnight. about an hour ago i heard this razor turn on and assumed my brother was shaving. kind of a weird thing to do at 11:30pm on a tuesday but to each their own. however, after about 10 minutes of this consistent buzzing i thought, “...is he good?” so i proceeded to see if he was, in fact, good. turns out he’s great! he’s also not even awake. he never turned on this razor, this razor turned on itself. and i have yet to successfully turn it off. i banged it on the floor in rage a few times and the clipper fell off, however the razor is still going strong. so now i’m sitting on the floor with this razor next to me, waiting for the battery to die so i can go to sleep knowing that this piece of garbage is dead and gone. i don’t even care if anyone reads this review, i just needed to rant because i have an 8am to go in the morning and this razor is preventing me from fully focusing on the work i waited to do until the last minute. also, in the (approximate) ten minutes it took to write this review, the razor has still not turned off. i have been listening to this beautifully gentle hum the entire time. my god. don’t buy this razor. that is all.

I've used a $30 Philips-Norelco groomer for several years that's finally falling apart on me. When I went looking for a replacement, I figured: why not spring for something a little nicer? Good reviews & design led me to this Wahl model. It definitely feels VERY solid and sleek in the hand, and my first use went well enough. However during my second and third attempted uses, even after oiling the blades, I experienced a RIDICULOUS amount of tugging on my beard hair. I have to cut MUCH slower than before, and it's PAINFUL. On top of that, the plastic blade guards you attach to set your cut length are both (a) inconvenient, since you need to remove and replace them to change lengths, and that takes an annoying amount of force and is easy to hurt yourself while doing so, and (b) they don't even fit on very well, somewhat unevenly - one end sticks up higher than the other end no matter how I attach it. Therefore the cut is likely at least somewhat uneven. I really wanted to love this Wahl, but I'm definitely going to exchange it for another brand. Maybe the Panasonic wet/dry easy-adjust model (Panasonic appliances have always impressed me, and the convenience sounds like a big win) or maybe even just get another Philips-Norelco cheapie. It worked much better than this, for years - at half the price.

Purchased at best buy for 59.99 at a $10 discount. Heads interchange easily. used daily x 1 month and still on initial charge. I question the longevity of the on/off switch - as it seems to be a "touch switch" and really does not depress much and "click" (seems to operate like a tv remote control button, but requires about 5 x the force to activate it) it comes with detachable: detailer, t-blade, rotary nose trimmer, and detail shaver I does not come with the Detchable dual shaver or trimmer head. I bought both from Wahl deliverd for $20.95. I was replaceing one of the older trimmers with the 3 AA batteries. The trimmer head compared the the older model is sharper, does not cut the skin, but seems to "catch" on the hairs at times. Have not tried it on a beard yet. more for trimming up what the electric razor may leave behind. the snap on beard length attachments seem cheap plastic - can't comment on their longevity. full charge in 1 hour with 4 hour run time. says if dead, one minute charge will give 3 minutes of run time 5 year warranty I would purchase this again.

    Facial hair gets caught, OUCH!

So the thing looks sleek and I was impressed with the battery life; felt like I hardly charged it at all. BUT, my main use for this trimmer was for the beard. I only ever used the #1, #1 1/2 and #2 (honestly way too many attachments to unpack, but at least there were many options). Every time my facial hair would get caught in between the trimmer blade and the attachment and almost yanked out of my face. Very painful. I tried different attachments but they all had the same results. I just flat out could not get a full stroke through the beard with solid pressure against the skin without the hairs getting caught. My one hang-up on BestBuy is their return policy. I waited too long to try the trimmer out before the return expired, so my brother ended up with a new barely used one. Doubt he'll have a different result than I did, but maybe his threshold for pain is higher than mine. Would not recommend this trimmer.

I used this one time and am returning it. First of all, I had trouble shutting it off. I kept hitting the power button and it stayed running after numerous attempts. As far as the actual use of this, it probably does about everything else except what I needed it for. It is good for trimming the edges of a mustache or goattee. Trying to get the right length you want is a different story. I tried using the slightly longer guards to trim, and it did nothing but glide right over my hair. I used the next size down, and it took it down to around a stubble length. This product is absolutely worthless to me as far as maintaining my desired hair length. For $60 I was hoping it would be able to do everything I needed. I guess I will have to return it, and get a trimmer that has the spin knob in the middle to adjust the hair length by each millimeter, and buy a smaller battery powered trimmer for the detailed stuff. I think they should've forgot the haircut part of this item, and concentrated more on doing all facial hair.

Had a vacuum Norelco and loved it. Built in chamber and guards. This Whal my bald friend has to trim all hair he has left. I liked the look the feel, battery good long life. I did need to figure out my beard length for Whals guards. That was about the worst of it. Came with oil, mini comb, 3 different heads(trimmer, nose hair clipper, normal zero) My beard looks so much better and it has 4 stubble/beard guards and 8 hair guards also that’s a big plus. Takes me 2 mins to trim once a week, definitely one of the best ones I’ve owned for beard trimming. I have yet to use on hair extensively I have only trimmed round the ears. Buy it if you think it looks cool cause it works well

I purchased this trimmer in March 15' w the intention of using it every once in a while, As I am a man w a difficulty of growing a thick beard. I loved the performance and I was even able to trim my hair between haircuts. The only complain is that it got a little moisture inside one day and it wouldn't shut off. I had to open it up and disconnect the battery and dry it off. Too many small plastic parts despite the outer stainless steel shell. This is something you won't experience with higher quality trimmers. After I put it back together some of the plastic parts were broken but nothing hat prevents use of the trimmer. I would give this trimmer a C+ but still would recommend it to someone who just going to use it occasionally but not often. Not bad price either and it's very nice slick trimmer

For bead trimming alone it's not so bad. My main complaint with this is trying to trim without a guard. I use an electric shaver for my neck as I have sensitive skin. If I go too long my stubble becomes to long for my foil shaver and need to trim down. I felt like when I would trim down stubble it would miss a lot of hairs and pull out a lot of hairs. I actually had the main head break on me about 3 weeks into use and could only use the longer 'T' head blade to do anymore cutting. As the beard guards only fit the smaller blade I could only use the larger guards reserved for hair cut buzzing. I feel like this trimmer does nothing special. At the price point, I would expect there to be something standout about it. It looks nice yes, but thats about it.

I purchased this for travel purposes overseas because I couldn't plug my other shavers in. I wasn't sure about the battery operated shavers, but this thing is great! It cuts well, just as well as my plug-in shaver, and the battery lasts a long time. I use it to shave my head, and it does a great job. It doesn't get 'bic' close, so don't get that idea; I still go over my head with a foil shaver to get that nothing-there look without bic'ing. My only two complaints and they aren't big enough to take any stars away are that the power button is sometimes hard to push to turn on/off and the head pops off when trying to clean it in a certain direction. Other than those two things, I love this thing and have actually not used my plug-in shavers since.

I have had a beard for all of my adult life, yet I used the crudest tools. I would trim with scissors, by lightly dragging a razor over the rough and lastly by using an Oster pet trimmer that I inherited from our dear departed Persian cat (he would have some difficulty at the back end due to the long fur). Get the picture? I saw a review of this Wahl trimmer and it was singing my song. There are a multitude of attachments, it is battery powered and is really a precision tool. It is ergonomically correct, powerful, and being battery powered it is a joy to handle. It is to your beard what a BMW is to the highway. The nose-hair attachment is a revelation!

Bought this Trimmer back in Feb 2014, and it's still holding up strong. When you hold the trimmer, you can feel it's a quality product with how how much heft it has. The quick charge function also works really well and has saved me quite a few mornings before work where i looked like caveman. The blades have not dulled either. What Wahl says about their blades is true; still sharp as ever and there're no pulls when I'm trimming. All in all, a great product. Pros: - Premium feel with metal body and quality blades - Quick charge saves you in a jam - Battery lasts a really long time even after two years Cons: - Wish it had more trim levels - Cord is somewhat short? - None

I've gone through many trimmers over the years and my last one was a Wahl LiOn that I really liked. They still sell it at Best Buy, by the way, but since the power switch flaked out I thought I'd treat myself to an upgrade. The unit is heavy but is well balanced. It has a premium look and feel to it but unfortunately that was about it. The motor speed was so much slower than my previous Wahl that sometimes it felt like I had to slow down my hand so the trimmer could keep up with my pace or it would end up pulling hair out rather than cutting it. I took it back and just got a new version of my old Wahl (still available at Best Buy) and I'm happy and clean-shaven again.

It's built solid and made of metal, not cheap plastic. It has plenty of power. The charge lasts for many hair cuts. I've charged it once and have cut my hair 5 or 6 times. I buzz my hair using the #2 (1/2") attachment and I can cut my hair and trim my neck line in less than 10 minutes! Well worth the cost. I can now cut my hair weekly and maintain that fresh barber shop cut! The cordless freedom makes it easy for travel. The only gripe I have is that even without an attachment, the blade doesn't trim my sideburns or neckline very close. I have to trim my side burns first, then shave with a blade to get a clean cut below the sideburns. I use the Wahl ear/nose trimmer to give my neckline a close, clean shave.

I love this trimmer! My main use is for trimming my beard and nose hair and also for side burn and neck cleanups between haircuts. It holds an great charge and allows for use several times a week over the course of several weeks before needing to be charged. The charge indicator light is a great addition to know when you need to plug in. The blade assortment is excellent and allows for all my trimming needs. The section of combs and guards is more than adequate. Combs work well, I can't comment on the stubble guards since I haven't used it. The overall weight and feel are great, solid but easily controllable and the stainless steel finish is clean and stylish.

Very bad quality product. Initially I placed good quality comments but as I used it, I had to change my opinion completely. It has a very big flaw of not being water resistant. so it is difficult to clean the blade and stuff. All portable trimmers should be water resistant ( at least should be able to wash/clean the blade) Secondly its charger and charging port both got rusty. I have used many trimmers earlier but never had such a problem. Thirdly the charging is drained very quickly. Fourthly the blade is not sharp enough and get the hair stuck in between and instead of cutting it pulls them out.

I was really excited about this purchase and though it is sleek and easily rechargeable for close trims its practically useless. The problem is its smallest attachment is a #4 and then there is no in between so if you want a close trim you have to use the actual blades and two problems here: you have to calculate the lengthen (sometime no uniformity and terrible for moustache) the second problem is it pulls your beard hair and that is really uncomfortable. with the attachment no pulling but without it its really bad. For longer beards maybe more useful but for short trim or even all trim not so much

    My Primary Shaver

I use this trimmer as my primary shaver. I had different attachments so you are able to trim your facial hair to just about whatever length you may want it. It comes with multiple T-blade sizes so you can get that precise outline that you may want. I think the most impressive thing about this trimmer is that it is able to hold a charge that can last about 2 to 3 weeks. However, one bad thing is that it does not seem to be water proof so when cleaning it you have to use the little brush provided. But I would say that after using this trimmer it seems worth the money.

Really surprised at how long one charge lasts. The unit works well overall but doesn't cut quite as close as the lesser expensive Wahl model I've owned for a couple of years. For example, when I used the new unit to cut my hair down as far as it would go -- the haircut lasted three weeks. My old unit would last four weeks. Also, the main head attachment is wider than my old unit and I don't prefer the wider head over the more narrow head...personal preference. I like that the light indicates the level of battery charge. Overall, I am very happy with this unit and would purchase it again.

These trimmers are definitely worth the price. It comes with a traveling case, oil to clean the blades, a small brush for cleaning, every possible length of clippers for your hair or beard, nose trimmers- I used a gift card or else I would not normally spend +$70 on trimmers but once I actually held the device...it just feels.... like its top quality. You can tell when your holding a cheap piece of plastic in your hand but these trimmers are the exact opposite. Stainless steel makes the item very easy to clean and gives it the weight and appearance of a savvy and durable tool. These trimmers are built to last and give me the desired result each time.

I bought my first Wahl 9818 in Feb 2017. By June 2017, that one stopped charging and stopped turning on, and I had to return it to Wahl for repairs. So that I was not without a razor, I purchased a second Wahl 9818, initially pleased with the customer service and expecting that the durability issue with the first unit was a fluke - it wasn't. As I write this in May 2018, just over/at a year from purchasing both trimmers, neither charge or power on, and I will be returning them both to Wahl for whatever they will give me for them.
