Seen other films about technology and they lack a good story telling. The idea of what the film try's to give about humanities ability to make its own species go extinct is on the spot. All weapons are not made to defeat your enemies but to destroy your onw and be use against is sad that it has not change. The film was nice and kept me on my toes. I knew the ending already but still had fun through out the film. Good of its time and then some.

    Great 80's Classic

Who can forget this classic '80's tale of a young hacker that wants to break into a game company computer to play their latest games and nearly starts WWIII when he breaks into NORAD initially thinking it's the fictional Protovision game company? I remember hearing President Reagan talking about this movie when I was a kid. I think there was a government study done showing this stunt couldn't be pulled off but it definitely made the military a bit nervous nonetheless. Watching this brought back childhood memories of arcades, acoustic modems, 8 inch floppy drives, etc. And of course, seeing floppy discs made by Elephant, an IMSAI computer and showcasing a war dialer in action definitely brought back memories of the technology used back then too. Having had this on DVD previously, it made for a good upgrade. Sound was adequate, not great but not bad. Picture looked quite a bit better than on the previous DVD. Unfortunately there weren't many extras. What few extras you find here were ported over from the previous 25th anniversary DVD. Overall, this is a cheap but good buy. Definitely worth adding to your movie library if you grew up in the 80's.

Love this movie! Works as advertised. Only issue was receiving the item on-time. I had to utilize customer service to reorder the item when it was not delivered the first time.

Back in the early 1980s computer use was in its evolving years, even by the military. When a young computer nerd wants to be entertained by playing what he thinks at the time is only a game everything starts to go terribly wrong. Could the unthinkable possibly happen, can WW III be averted? This is a very enjoyable film from the aspect of how humor is injected into the various goings ons of what is otherwise a very stressful time for everyone concerned. The different cast members put together for this film are perfect in their roles. The Blu-ray AV quality for a 1980s film is extremely strong.

Anybody who immediately thinks of Ferris Bueller when talking about Matthew Broderick never really watched this movie! "David Lightman" is an honest representation of a kid who is overlooked because of what others see on the surface; not what he truly has to offer. This is a direct reflection of the basis of the movie - what you see is not always what you get; and, what seems like the best course of action probably isn't. Plus, Dabney Coleman was then, and still is, one the most under-rated actors of our time.

This is my second favorite film that features Ally Sheedy aside from "The Breakfast Club" and "Short Circuit." Matthew Broderick also has a great role in this film as well. Broderick's character basically finds his way into a government program that he thinks is a video game and then gets the attention of the federal government. He also nearly starts a major World War in the process. Every minute of "WarGames" is thrilling from minute to end and I would definitely recommend this film to anybody that likes a good sci-fi or thriller.

I must have been the only geek on the planet that hadn't seen this iconic movie. I knew about it and knew the premise but had never seen the movie. I was glad I changed that. Is it old? Yes. Is the dialogue cheesy? Yes. Is it unrealistic? Yes. But it's a great Cold War movie that is also a "fear the AI" movie. My only issue is it runs back to back on the Blu-Ray. No menu. The movie starts immediately and begins again after the credits.

Classic! This was one of the first Movies I (or should I say my Parents) rented on Beta Max (Does anybody remember that Technology???). We even had to rent the VCR because nobody owned them back then unless you were insanely rich. The Movie was way ahead of it's time and it's fun to watch Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy in one of their first Acting Roles. Definitely recommend for everybody!

War Games Delivers - Blu Ray Not So Much

War Games is one of those classic 80's movies you don't see so much on TV anymore. What a shame. Love this movie. Broderick and Sheedy are great. The Blu Ray of this is OK - there is nothing really spectacular about the picture and sound to begin with so no real shocks there. I didn't have this in my collection however and the price is right so I got the Blu Ray anyway - worth it to have it. I watched it with my daughter and she loved it. I love sharing the older movies with my kids - they love them. Buy it for the story and nostalgia and share it!

Though it is hard to be too harsh about any movie made about technology from the 80's, this movie has obviously dated with the passing of time. But, I still enjoy it and it is fun to remember what times were like when the big bad supercomputer could still be beat with a simple game of tic tac toe. I will still enjoy this movie every time I see it!

This movie had a big influence in me. This was one of the first movies to show a geek as the hero of the story and that computers are cool. The extras are a must for any fan. Even now that nuclear war seems not to be an immediate concern as it was during the 80's the final 20 minutes of the movies will shock you how close we were to the end.

Such a fun movie from the eighties. I'm happy to have this title in my collection. Video quality = fair (a remastered would be awesome) Audio quality = good for a film of this format Extras = lacking would have loved a where are they now. The best release available for this title but my hope is for an anniversary edition.

While it is dated with it being in the Cold War era and the mention of the Soviet Union, it is a good movie to show to kids due to its PG rating and has some suspense

If you were the one to turn the key...could you do it? This movie was one of the highest grossing of 1983 and deservedly so. It's well paced and has just the right amount of psychological and race against the clock tension throughout. Good movie for the Blu Ray collection!

Would you like your WOPR with a side of Global Thermonuclear War? This movie is a fun watch for the whole family. Good cast with a lot of actors you will recognize. Fun premise of computer hacking in the early years and the consequences of nuclear weapons.

An early Matthew Broderick movie, set in the period just before technology as we know it kicked in. Dial up modems in cradles, text-only web site interfaces, synthetic speech, etc. Good performances by Dabney Coleman, Broderick, and others. Funny to see a debate being hold on using computers to control military might, when today computers are used for almost every element of war and defense.
