I did a lot of research looking for the perfect m.2 drive for my build. It had to meet the following criteria; fast, reliable, affordable and must match the rest of my build. This really was my only option. Its very well made, has a real heft to it, the feel of quality. I use it as my main game drive and its been nothing but fantastic. Extremely fast and never runs anywhere near hot. This really is a must buy if you want something with a nice preinstalled heatsink,

I should say upfront that I received the WD Black SN750 Solid State Drive w/ Heatsink for the purposes of providing an honest and unbiased review. I'll try to keep it honest, but my bias shows as I like this drive so much I now have three of them. It's great. It's stable. It's fast. It keeps cool. And, importantly for me, it runs on nearly every desktop computer I put it in. As such, I obviously recommend it. I've never gotten a bad one or had one fail. It will speed up your computer immensely. Startup times and game load times will decrease a lot.
Your mileage may vary, but I find that the heatsink does help cool down the SN750. It's hard to get a straight comparison, but it is consistently cooler. Now, whether or not that temperature difference truly matters in the long run, I can't say, but it does run cooler under load. What's more, in prebuilt machines by Lenovo and other manufacturers, I often find that there isn't much internal cooling. As such, the added heatsink really helps regulate the drive and minimize my fears of overheat. For me, the drive tended to sit at around 38C on idle. It got a bit hotter during game load, but it isn't near as hot as some of my other drives.
I mentioned compatibility. I put this drive in an AMD Ryzen based Lenovo desktop. As a way of upgrading that machine, this drive did wonders. It was out of the box compatible with the Lenovo computer. Now, I don't get the full 4 lanes on that AMD machine, but it's much faster than what had been in there before. On my newer machines, it runs great. I've included read right times in the photos.
For my machines, installation involved making sure there was an NVME slot on the motherboard. Because this drive comes with heatsinks, it won't be compatible with any motherboard heatsinks that may have come with your board. The heatsink doesn't come off the SN750 and I wouldn't try to pry it off.
I guess it goes without saying that the heatsink means this drive is relegated to desktops. I doubt most laptops would have the space for it.
Western Digital has their Western Digital Dashboard. It gives device stats, but could be more user friendly and useful. As is, it provides decent snapshots of temperature and drive health, but that's it. There's a game mode, but I couldn't tell that it did much. I downloaded Acronis True Image to clone an existing drive onto the SN750. You can get that software for free from Western Digital's website.
Installation took a matter of minutes. Because every computer manufacturer is different, there is no mounting screw included with the kit. My gaming desktop came with the screw built-in and my Lenovo system used a proprietary mounting bracket and clip.
Not sure what else I can really say about this drive. I really like this drive. I recommend Western Digital to my friends and family. I've been building computers with Western Digital drives for nearly 30 years. With or without heatsink, the SN750 is a solid drive. Even as PCIe Gen 4 drives begin rolling out, the SN750 remains a great value for the price.

I reinstalled windows onto this drive before I had a $30 240 GB Kingston SSD which is still a substantially better than an HDD for those who don’t fully understand. For those only looking to install their favorite games onto this drive it’s still worth it! It cuts load times drastically!

Insanely Fast Gaming SSD!

This thing is consistently fast! If you haven't jumped on the NVMe bandwagon yet and youre still rockin' a SATA III SSD, you've got to do yourself a favor and treat yourself to NVMe! Especially if you enjoy playing games and/or you're a heavy productivity user. Just as a quick comparison, my old internal Samsung 860 EVO SATA III V-NAND drive achieves around 560 MB/s read and 530 MB/s write. I thought the 860 EVO was fast since it always provided me with minimal load times in games and minimal Windows boot times. This WD Black NVMe drive shatters those speeds averaging read speeds of 3450 MB/s and 2600 MB/s write speeds!
Western Digital rates this nvme SSD at read speeds of up to 3430 MB/s. I am happy to report that after benchmarking this drive extensively, this is not only accurate, but the drive consistently exceeds expectations. A couple of my CrystalDiskMark test results are listed below (also see screenshots):
SEQ1M Q8T1 Test #1:
Read: 3461.82 MB/s
Write: 2606.14 MB/s
SEQ128K Q32T1 Test#1:
Read:3471.16 MB/s
Write: 2608.09
-----------------------------------------
SEQ1M Q8T1 Test #2:
Read: 3454.85 MB/s
Write: 2606.64 MB/s
SEQ128K Q32T1 Test#2:
Read: 3467.93 MB/s
Write: 2607.07 MB/s

I've been using this drive over the last few days and applications and programs load lightning fast. Load times in games are practically non-existent or very very quick. I was also pleased to see that WD outfitted this NVMe drive with their own custom heatsink which looks very pleasing. The heatsink is pretty beefy compared to the NVMe stock heatsink that came with my motherboard.
Overall installation was a breeze. When installing these, note that the drive goes in at a 30 degree angle. It has somewhat of a spring action to it. Once its inserted and resting at a 30 degree angle, push down on the stick and screw it in. You will have to use one of your motherboard screws as this drive does not come with a mobo screw. One thing I will note is that I almost had a bit of a clearance issue with this drive. Because of the way my Aorus motherboard is designed, there is a capacitor and a PCIe x1 port that are very close together. Due to the WD heatsink being a bit beefy, the lip of the heatsink just barely brushes the capacitor. Something to keep in mind if you have a tight space around your NVMe bay.
Overall I am extremely pleased with this drive. Applications, games, and Windows OS is blazing fast. I'll definitely be picking up some more of these for other computers!

Snappy load times

If you are looking to speed up load times with your PC and currently on a standard Hard Disk Drive, and have the available M.2 port, then this is absolutely worth the upgrade. Really easy to install and may require some changes in BIOS, but nothing too drastic. Speeds from a standard HDD to this NVMe are easily noticeable, from a SATA Solid State Drive they are noticeable, but not as drastic in normal use. The sequential read/write speeds are as advertised and where this stands out the most is in load time, whether it is Windows booting up or loading into your favorite game. Depending on what you are coming from this could be a second or two faster to several seconds faster each and every time you load between scenes. The warranty is 5 years or 300TB Written, whichever comes first. The difference between the Desktop and Laptop version is the built in heatsink. You can use the laptop version for a desktop PC, however heat can be a problem and cause issues such as computer crashes or worse. The desktop only version is too thick for most laptops and the heatsink is not intended to be removed. Overall, I really enjoy having those few extra seconds and what feels like snappier response times from something so small.

You really can't go wrong with the WD_BLACK SN750 NVMe SSD. This drive is marketed toward gamers, touting read speeds of 3430MB/s, which I was able to confirm on CrystalDiskMark8. The unit itself is solid with a buil-in heatsink. Nowadays, many motherboards offer built-in cooling for your NVMe drive, so you'll be happy to know that the heatsink can be removed altogether by loosening 6 screws. My motherboard actually has this feature, but I preferred the look of the large built-in heatsink, so had to make adjustments to lock it down in place (YMMV). For my personal use, I ended up installing a fresh Windows 10 on the SN750 for one of my gaming PCs. It does hold a premium price point due to the inclusion of the heatsink, so if you’re one of those that just need the drive itself to be fitted into a motherboard with built-in cooling, you may want to pass on this and save some money. With the heatsink on and running CrystalDiskMark8, the temps kept under 52 degrees C.
The WB_BLACK SN750 comes with a 5-Year warranty.

The WD Black NVME line has proven to be a reliable gen 3 mid-range performer for me since I originally picked up the previous generation of WD Black NVME drive back in 2019. The new WD Black 750 comes with it’s own heatsink this time around. Although not mentioned in the documentation, the heatsink appears to be from EK Water Blocks, a reputable manufacturer of PC cooling products.
The drive does manage to hit at or near advertised speeds – no complaints there. I picked up two of them and put them in a RAID 0. I was not disappointed. With two of these drives in a stripe I managed to hit over 6GB/s read and almost 5GB write.
I migrated my game library and was able to quickly get up and running. Performance was fantastic and games like Battlefield 4 and Control saw noticeable decrease in load times.
The drive looks good and performs well, all at a reasonable price, what’s not to love?

The Western Digital Black SN750 NVMe SSD is a very good drive. Marketed towards gamers and hardware enthusiasts, the SN750 is available in capacities of 500GB, 1TB, and 2 TB. It is offered in two variants -- a desktop only version, and a desktop and laptop version. The desktop only version comes with a hefty heatsink, and therefore would not fit in a laptop. The heatsink can be removed, however. This review is of the 500GB "desktop only" version.
Western Digital lists the Maximum Data Transfer Rate at 3470 megabytes per second (read) and this rate was confirmed during benchmarking (see attached pictures) while comparing to other popular NVMe SSDs. All use the PCIe 3.0x4 bus standard.
Interestingly, the Intel 660p which comes in a lot of pre-made systems lagged substantially behind the top three PCIe 3.0x4 devices, with read/write speeds lagging over 50% slower that the top drives and only was only ahead of a very well worn Samsung 860 Evo which runs on a Serial ATA (SATA) interface. The SN750 was very competitive, only being bested by the Samsung 970 Evo, and not by much.
If you're looking for a performance NVMe drive, the SN750 should be on your short list.
The Western Digital Black SN750 comes with a 5-Year warranty.

Over the past few days I've been putting this drive through it's paces. I have to say it's a solid performer. Games like Crew 2, Monster Hunter, and others load very fast. While gaming there is no lag to speak of from games loading. Maps and levels load in an instant. This would also be great for a main OS drive as well. When you install this drive, make sure you download the software from WD and enable Game Mode. Solid state drives are just the thing to have in a PC or console these days, and I would definitely recommend this one for your PC.

I normally like to do a detailed review when I post about a product that I like, but there isn't much to say about this SSD. For a component designed to not be seen again after installation, it looks great. It fits just like you'd expect. It has a great WD warranty. And most importantly, it's fast
Overall, this is a great value for a well-supported product. Highly recommended.

WD_BLACK SN750 NVMe 500GB Internal PCIe Gen 3 x 4 Solid State Drive for Desktops
this NVMe SSD is a speedy little hard drive that added 500GB of storage capacity to my son's gaming desktop at a fair price and great results.
I have installed this SSD as a secondary SSD to store and run games on as I have a primary SSD that is running windows on it.
installing took literally 3 minutes:
Step 1: inpack SSD
Step 2: turn off computer
Step 3: locate M2 slot for SSD
Step 4: insert new SSD into slot
Step 5: fasten the screw (not provided in the package) but had a screw in place on my motherboard so I used it. if you are wondering which type screw you can't go wrong with an M3 screw size.
Step 6: turn on computer
step 7: right click on This PC - Disk Management - right click on new volume - initialize - create new simple volume - choose size in MB (if you want multiple columes - assign new drive letter - quick format - and you are set to go and the new volume will show up in this pc and it is now usable.
If you want to have this SSD perform as a boot volume, you will need to create it as a bootable disk and copy the content of your original HDD or SSD using a HDD management software. or you can start from a fresh install.
this hard drive has great reading/ writing speeds and it did improve the overall performance of my sons desktop and added plenty of space for him to save his games.

Really good drive that also comes with a heatsink to help protect the chips (especially the controller) from thermal wear. Do not understand why more drive makers do not put heat sinks on their NVMe drives to protect from thermal wear, especially given the systems growing increasingly compact. Just make sure it will fit before you buy. Some say it's not needed but better to be safe than sorry. Software package with drive is also first rate.

This NVMe drive will make a noticeable difference when you install games or apps on it. After moving my Destiny 2 game folder from a mechanical drive to this drive, I noticed immediately that load times into the game had quickened. Sequential reads of 3248 MB/s and writes at 2567 MB/s, this drive moves data blazing fast.
Installation was easy. The heatsink comes already attached. Just slot the drive into the M.2 slot and screw in the hold down screw that came with your motherboard. If your motherboard came with a cover with heat pads, it likely wont fit back on. I just placed mine back in my motherboard box.
Once installed, I created a steam library and transferred my most played games over. I was easily able to fit Destiny 2, Apex Legends, and a newer game, New World onto the drive with room to spare. By comparison, screen load times and going from planet to planet was noticeably faster. Updates installed a bit quicker as files had quicker read times. If your motherboard supports it, you’re wasting seconds of your life by not getting one.

I was looking to add a little extra storage to my gaming rig and this drive hit everything I was looking for. Great price, fast, and a quality and reliable brand name.
This drive was very easy to install (as most hard drives are) You literally just pop it in your computer and turn it on. That's all you have to do!
I was using this to store some extra games on since my main hard drive was starting to get full. I can honestly say I didn't notice any drop in performance in any of my games. They were all just as fast as running from my main hard drives, the framerates were the same, Everything!
Thanks to the built in heatsink the drive stayed nice and cool as well. never di I even get close to overheating the drive, even when I was putting a lot of load on it!
I would highly recommend checking these drives out if you're looking for a little extra storage for your gaming rig. Its a no-brainer for adding reliable storage that's just about as quick as you can get!
