I bought this drive to replace a 1 TB drive that died in my 4 year old desktop computer. The drive was easy to install and I was able to restore the drive contents from backup. Everything is working well with this drive. It is fast and very quiet.

After much review research regards use of hard drives for video surveillance equipment; took a chance on the desktop WD version. Yay for me! Works like a charm for my home CCTV low end four camera system. Quiet, reliable, and plenty of storage. Probably would have gone with the video drive if I had a higher end system- but for generic home security recording...the one fits the bill at a reasonable price. Been running non stop for several months now- review of footage is flawless (can't expect the recording to be better than the camera resolution!). It works. It is reliable. And quiet (mine is housed in a four sided cubby about 8 feet from my head while sleeping)- barely hear a whirring and that gets lost in the sound of anything; open window, furnace, AC, etc.

Western Digital has been around for many years, the drives are fast, easy to install, and reliable. I prefer them to Seagate, I believe that most of the drives are quieter and there is a better selection to suit your need.

It'a a good drive: it's quiet, reasonably quick, reasonably large, and hasn't had any issues so far (months, not years).
I got the WD instead of the Seagate, largely because I've had issues with Seagate in the past (click of death), not because of any detailed analysis.

Decided to upgrade my office computer hard drive for more storage capacity and a faster read time. This drive worked great. Easy install. Cloned the drive for easy setup.

When your computer crashes and your hard drive freezes, it's not a good thing. So when I had to replace my hard drive, I didn't want to pay someone hundreds of dollars. I went on the Internet and decided which one was right for me. Then off to Best Buy to purchase it. The person who helped me actually helped me choose this model in stead. He said it was faster, easy to install, and lasted longer than the one I originally went to buy. He was right! Easy step by step instructions, was easy to install, and so fast and quiet. I feel like I have a new energized computer!

After building my PC 6 years ago I finally was running out of storage. Picked this WD 1 TB blue to be my new main drive for my Windows 10 upgrade. Installing the drive was simple and the OS was up & running quickly. I usually work with the Black series, but there's nothing noticeably different with this blue. It's quick, quiet, and has consolidated the three older drives with plenty of room to spare. Time will tell as with any hard drive, but past experience with WD drives has been excellent, and I expect the same results with this one.

drive detected by BIOS and able to install - whew

Got this drive as a replacement/exchange for a new Seagate 1TB HDD from Best Buy that was unable to be detected by my computer BIOS right out of the box (see review for the Seagate 1B HDD). This Western Digital drive was detected in the BIOS right away, with the model number, and I was able to install Windows 7 right away without problem.
As mentioned in the "What's not so great" comment, I note the Western Digital body/case is built beefier like the hard drives of yesterday as opposed to the thinner Seagate body (which is easier to handle) but just maybe the beefier body helps heat to dissipate better (and augur better reliability down the road). Also might say from having gone to both manufacturer's websites, I'd give Seagate the nod in that respect for ease of use on the website, layout and tools, but in the end, am happy to have a working hard drive.

Ive had numerous Seagate Drives fail just a year or 2 past their warranty period, my last drive a 1 TB Seagate just failed, tired of failing drives and my large quantity of Western Digital drives which work without a hitch and issue, i decided to replace the failed seagate with this BLUE WD drive. High quality, quiet, speedy (as any physical disc drive can be). Proven reliability and performance. Plug and play, reformat to work in win or mac. No regrets.

I rebuilt/repaired a computer for a family member, and needed a new hard drive. I wanted to put something larger in than what they had previously, and found this HD. They went from a 250GB HD up to a 1TB HD. The drive is quiet, reliable, and was a good price for the storage amount. I had no issues formatting it, installing the OS, and apps. Computer has been up and running for a couple months now, no issues. Very happy with this HD.

Computer started taking longer to boot and giving error messages. Took to Geek Squad for service. Computer diagnostics showed HD passed but Geek Squad ran better tests and show HD was failing. They recommended this 1 TB HD as a replacement, installed it, loaded OS & drivers, tested and returned it to me. It boots fast, runs great, faster than ever before saving and opening files and programs. And it is quite.

I finally decided that since so many of the computer games that I play these days are digital only, or that require so many downloads even if they were bought on a DVD-ROM, that I needed to get a hard drive with more storage. I had been making do with a Western Digital 320 GB hard drive paired with another one that is 250 GB. I kept the newer of the two (the 320 GB) one as the back up drive and installed this one in the place of the smaller drive.
Installation was just as easy as it has always been since I made sure that the width of the new drive would fit in my PC's drive bay. Western Digital has maintained good quality and this new one seems to be as well built as older ones I've used. My computer (running Windows 8.1) recognized the drive no problem and I was able to install the operating system on it easily.
I've used this drive almost every day since I bought it for surfing the net, productivity software and gaming. I've installed and played some fairly demanding games on it and haven't noticed any increase in noise, even when the game is really taxing the hardware, over my old drive.
I can wholeheartedly recommend this drive.

My system drive crashed on my desktop system recently and I had to replace it. I found this drive at Best Buy to replace it. It had the same electrical, mechanical and performance specs as the original. The installation went smoothly. The drive is quiet and performing without any problems. I was impressed with its price and ready availability.

I have been buying only Seagate products for a number of years. I work as a software engineer though and do Full stack web dev on the side. I had an issue come up where I need to get another hard drive and quickly. The client I was working with refused to shell out the cash that was necessary for a WD Red or Black which I suggested for the uses that had intended it for and they settled for the blue instead. With this being on a system that I regularly access I can say from experience that I am impressed with this drive. Out of the box it seemed pretty run of the mill but it boots up quick, does decent for file transfer, doesn't take to much time to read or write anything to it at all and I haven't heard it make a single sound. I might have to pick up a WD black for my next personal build and give it a shot. I would gladly recommend WD (maybe not over Seagate, but would recommend none the less).

Bought this to replace the wife's main drive in her windows pc since it was starting to fail. Luckily I was able to clone all the data over on the this one with no problems. Drive works great, very quiet and fast for being just a blue drive. Always relied on WD drives, never had one fail yet!
