I am a lover of Western Digital Backup drives. Including this drive, I have purchased four. The first three are still in operation. The drive I purchased before this one was purchased approximately 3 years ago. The Oldest was purchased 8 or 9 years ago. So, it was a no-brainer when I decided to purchase the "My Book" 3TB external hard drive. Like my previous WD hard drives, software installed w/o a hitch. All my files on the "My Book" transferred with no problem. Everything worked perfectly until I disconnected the hard drive from my computer, & later reconnected it. I had disconnected My previous WD hard drives to take them with me, or transfer files to other family computers with no problems whatsoever. For some reason the "My Book" stopped backing up my files. Unlike my other 3 WD external hard dives, I have only used the "My Book" for the same computer. I ended up contacting WD Support. They were all friendly & professional. Both times they addressed my issue via remote access. The problem continued when I disconnected the WD drive from my computer. The "My Book" stopped automatically backing up my files a third time. This 3rd time was for no apparent reason, as, I had decided I would no longer disconnect the "My Book" from my computer. I had taken notes during the 2nd time WD Support had "fixed" the "My Book" hard drive. So, I "fixed" it the same way that the WD Support Tech had. The drive worked properly for about 2 weeks, then stopped automatically backing up the files on my PC. This is a lousy product. The computer I use "My Book" is a newer computer, & is compatible with the "My Book" external drive. My PC has 4TB of storage & is partitioned into 4 drives. I have approximately 2.5 TB of data on it. So, each time the "My Book" external hard drive was "fixed" it took me approximately 1.5 days to have the "My Book" drive back up the files from my PC!!!! I just contacted WD. They are going to send me another drive. I'm hoping this one doesn't give me problems. I would recommend WD products to everyone, just not this particular model.

I love Western Digital products. I have owned several Western Digital products and I have never had a problem with anything with the WD name on it.,

I keep all of my movies digitally and this Hard Drive works great. It has a large memory capacity and transfer rates are PHENOMINAL!!!

I use many external hard drives for storing images. I use 2 drives at a time, having one mirror the other so I have double back-ups.

I wanted to plug this into my router to create linked network storage but it was really slow and clunky. Though, I don't think it's the storage device's fault. The storage is awesome. Should take me years to fill up, I hope.

This external hard drive does wonders for my gaming console and photo library. I highly suggest you look into this storage device.

I have been using this drive for several months now with no issues. Transfer speed is fast over USB 3.0. It never gets hot and is silent.

Flushed the included SW, reformatted. Works great as a "dumb drive". It's big, it's fast, and so far very stable. Highly recommended.

Easy set up...basically plug and play...terrific storage space for the price. Look for it on sale, otherwise its a bit pricey. More importantly, its a Western Digital product.

Loads the files very quickly and easy to operate. Use it for my xbox one as an external hard drive and was worth the money.

this thing is a beast. I was able to backup multiple machines at home and still have leftover space.

Have had this unit for a year and have had zero issues.

the first on showed up with errors so I returned it. the second one seems to be fine. just to play it safe during the return I paid the $20 for the warranty.

Avoid this useless device at all costs! I bought it as a back up for my Windows 7 laptop. There are two sets of instructions: one minimal 3--step paper insert that makes it look like all you have to do is plug and play and it backs up automatically, and a second 80+page PDF on the Hard Drive itself. I installed the software, and the first time I tried to back up the files, I received a message "RPC Server Unavailable". The WD site is useless for finding a solution, but a Google search suggested updating the software with the newest version of it. I did that, but it still doesn't work. I don't get the "RPC" message, but when I click back up now button (which is not easy to find), it hangs after backing up only about 32GB out of 490GB on the laptop's hard drive. I clicked on a list of the files not backed up, and there's a message that the back up is "pending" but the status bar just hangs and none of the files are being transferred. I need those files backed up NOW so I can free up space on my HD to do work, but this external HD is clearly not working properly. I'm sorry I ever bought it. I don't know how other customers could give it over a 4-star rating. Not my experience at all. Just more wasted time on something that should be simple -- copying files.

This is perfect for my xbox one games, gives me plenty of room!

This is our 2nd WD My Book. The first one has worked excellently for 3 years and is now out of storage room so we bought a another one with more storage capacity. Quick Books backs up to every night automatically.
