This is my 4th WD MyBook. These drives have never let me down. This one is quick, quite, and sleek looking. I've only had it a week or two, but so far it's working perfectly.

Picked this drive up to clean up two internal drives that I have in an old tower fast transfer rate would be faster if the tower had 3.0 USB ports

This hard drive is perfect for the Xbox One. It was super easy to setup, I am not a very tech savvy person either.

BEST BUY won't do anything for this failed product!!!!!! 2 years warranty for nothing!!!! 7 years of my photography and every candid photo of my son gone because your product crashed after 2 weeks!!!!! Western Digital does not have a recovery center and won't pay for their failed product to be fixed!!!!! Now I have to pay $300-$400 to get my photos recovered!

Compared to a Mobius USB 3 external 5-bay enclosure, the mobius estimated copy time of my entire iTunes library as 3 hours. A very huge collection. Copy time using this WD My Book USB 3 drive? 15 hours.
3 hours compared to 15. You make the decision.

I own two of these units (2TB & a 4TB), and am experiencing the same issue with both. During large file count, or high data amount transfers (i.e. backups) the device disconnects from the operating system and becomes unavailable. I have spent 2 days troubleshooting with Western Digital with no resolution. A quick google search turns up that this a prevalent issue with Western Digital USB 3.0 drives. In some cases upgrading the drive firmware or your local USB drives resolves the issue (it did not in my case). In my opinion this device is not worth the hassle.

I needed an AV eSata drive to expand the memory in my Tivo Ramio Pro; the salesperson sold me this. The Tivo instructions clearly state "do not connect with a USB cable". Not happy with having to drive back to the store in the January cold!

Dying During First Use, and Dead Before Finished.

Purchase price at Best Buy store was cheaper than online price. Took it home and connected it. I had to move a few hundreds of gigabytes onto it. At first it seemed to be transferring. Little did I know that it was not supposed to take that long. I did the next set of folders and it was even moooooore slow. Again, I just figured.... "well." Then I tried to do photos, which should not have taken long. Not only did it get extra extra slow, moving one file/pic per many minutes but it suddenly started disabling some of my computer functions. Before the issue with my computer functions, I googled, "wd... transferring files very slow." All I kept seeing was that it meant the hard drive was about to die. 'Oh gosh, not me.' So eventually, after realizing that the drive was going to be a bust and that my computer was having problems while the hard drive was connected, I tried to delete everything that got transferred so that I could return the drive to Best Buy. I couldn't. I tried and tried. I couldn't. I called WD and the guy on the phone actually gave very good customer service. He couldn't tell me how to delete my files from a dead drive, but he offered to send me a new drive right away and then I would send them the dead one and they would be able to delete my info from it. I appreciated his time and help, but I did not want another WD drive, because I didn't trust it. I thanked him and had to return the drive as is to Best Buy. I told the Customer Service lady, "Do NOT put this back on the shelf. It is dead." I wonder if she listened. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I was really disappointed though.

I have always used Western Digital external HDs for my backup needs. This 4T is the largest I have ever owned and I quickly backed up all my data from 3 other units. It was fast and easy using the USB3 ports. However, the drive just stopped. Diagnostics show 0k on the drive. I did some other recovery tricks and nothing, the drive is dead, although the power is on. Dissapointed doesnt begin to cover it, Plus WD require you to pay S/H costs to get a new unit under warranty, adding financial insult to injury. And hey, did you know there is no phone number anywhere on their site, and emails via Contact Us go unanswered? What is going on with this company?

after a power surge, i could not power on the drive. so, i removed the hard drive from the enclosure and added to my pc as internal drive. i lost all the data. although i did not set a password, i learned later from the internet search that it encrypts the data automatically. i lost tonnes of data...
