After downloading/installing seven games on Xbone, I started to run out of room and knew I wouldn't be able to install another 7 or more games. I don't plan on buying that many games anytime soon, but I'll definitely buy at least that many over the next year or two. I did some research and settled on My Book 4TB for the value and high professional reviews. I know have 8 times the storage and feel this is more than sufficient for my needs. It was easy to set up, as the Xbone immediately recognized the device and walked me through the process of setting it up. The only thing I had to do was transfer my files from the internal storage to the My Book. This took some time, but was not that inconvenient.

I bought this hard drive for my Xbox one. The 4 TB drive was only $10 more than the 3 TB drive, so it was a great deal. It was easy to set up and it has added Much needed Drive space to my Xbox one.

Device was pretty simple to set up, the drive itself had all the documentation if needed. Doubled my available storage and makes for a great media drive/ backup drive.

I've used a few different kinds of external drives over the past several years. I can say with 100% certainty that the Western Digital My Book drives are clearly on another level, all things considered. I have two connected right now (the 4TB one that I'm 'reviewing', and another 2TB one that I've had for a long time now). They run fast for external drives (faster than the others I've used), and I've never had a single problem with ANY Western Digital drive I've owned, which is at least 6-- the two mentioned above, another older external drive that I'm not using now, two in laptops, and another WD laptop drive that I put in my old PS3. None of them have ever had any issues at all. If you need an external hard drive, this is where it's at... and the price is great, usually right around the same price as a lot of lower quality drives. *Note- As of right now (June 8, 2015), value-wise, your best bet is to get a 4TB hard drive, unless that's not anywhere near the capacity you're looking for. It changes from time to time, but when I purchased this one, I compared several models (2TB, 4TB, 6TB, and possibly more-- I can't remember for sure), and looked at prices to determine which one was the best value, per gigabyte. I figured the 6TB would come out on top, but right now, the 4TB ones are cheaper per GB than any other model. Again though, that tends to change over time, so if that's something you're interested in taking advantage of, I'd compare them again when buying one.

I bought TWO of these, to replace a CRASHED 6TB RAID box from a competitor. I wanted to use one as a primary, and use the other to mirror it (eventually, I'll find the software to do this automatically; for now, I do it manually). However, when I went to install the second drive, Win7 wouldn't recognize it as useable! I eventually got the OS to see the drive as available for use, but WOW! was it a total pain. The WD Utilities are NO help in this matter, either. Other than that, I can't say enough GOOD things about these drives. Eventually, I'll be looking for bigger WD Books - but for now, 4TB will work.

Perfect Hard Drive for backups and storage

I bought this for two reasons. I needed to copy all my data off of two computers in order to reformat them. After reformatting I am using the drive for additional storage as well as backing up both machines. 4 TB (3.7 ish actual capacity) is plenty. Especially considering I was only going to buy the 3 TB but the 4 TB was on sale for the same price. USB 3.0 is nice except my machines don't have it. And the drive even comes with some pre loaded tools for backing up.

A little pricey if you just need the space, but...

There are 2TB drives out there for less money and if all you need is a huge space, you might consider one of those. The value added in this package is the backup software that is bundled with the drive (actually, delivered right on the drive). WD Smartware is a backup/restore suite that, once installed, boots with your machine. If the MyBook is attached via your USB port, it will constantly monitor activity and make backups accordingly in the background in near real time without any action on your part. It also maintains multiple generations of files (you choose how many), so you can go back to, say, three versions ago if you need to recover a spreadsheet or other data file. You can also use it on multiple computers. Backups are stored under folders with the same name as the PC they're created on. I tested on a Win XP Pro laptop and a Win7 laptop and detected no system slowdowns at all. Every now and then the activity light on the drive would flicker; otherwise the backup operations were not noticeable. The drive itself is completely silent. I strongly consider copying the software included on the drive to a CD before you do anything. I can envision situations where you might want to delete everything off the My Book and if you do that, you'll no longer have the software to install on another machine (the manual has instructions about where to look for it online).

I've use WD external hard drives in the past so I had a pretty good idea of what I was getting. As I had a new desktop computer built for me I needed a decent size external backup of my files. Easy to setup and install. The con: WD always has bloatware on their external drives. As this unit is a 4TB unit this is not much of a concern right now, If it becomes necessary at a latter date I'll see if this bloatware can be removed as I have a B/U program that I like and don't need another B/U application.. Otherwise, I really like WD hds.

one thing I always run low on, is storage space. with this 4TB, I should have a few more months before I have to get another one of these babies. I already have 3 of the 3TB versions, and seeing how happy I was with the previous models, I decided to jump to 4TB and it works just as expected under both windows and yosemite (running tuxera for ntfs). This drive is mostly a backup of a backup drive, because well, better be safe than sorry.

I've had very good luck with Western Digital drives - more so than with LaCie or other brands. They get cheaper every year, and have larger storage capacities. With USB 3.0, they're as fast as I need them to be. What's not to like?

I use this as an external HDD for my Xbox One, and it works fantastic. Its easy to set it, just plug it in and format. Its not very loud, its well ventilated. It's a great price for $/TB. Would recommend to anyone with an Xbox One.

So far this has been a good performer and was very easy to setup. Initial quality is good, the unit is very quiet in operation, and data transfer speeds are what you'd expect from a USB 3.0 drive. The true test of any stand-alone disc drive is how long it lasts, and how reliable it is over the life of the drive. I will update this review as I get more mileage on this one. I had been using Seagate pro series, but after a serial string of early mortalities with them, I've decided to give WD a try.

I bought this for my Xbox One for a couple reasons. First off doing some investigating i found the internal HDD is a sata 2 connection running at 5400 RPM. This WD External HDD runs at 7200 RPM with a much faster USB 3.0 connection. Games have improved loading and the hitches in games i have seen have smoothed right out. Second its 4TB, which is more than enough storage. Its a win/win.

For those of us looking for high capacity hard drives (3 or more TB), this hard drive hits the sweet spot. It has excellent storage capacity for what's on the market now. Plus, the drives are very reliable (this is my 2nd). Easy setup & installation. The only slight ding on the drive is that it is not the fastest at reading/accessing the data. It's not slow, but it's just slightly above average.

Allows for 3.6 TB for storage, and utilizing hot swap USB connection it can quickly transfer large amounts of data between machines, provided you establish a guest, or everyone account, with full access. I utilize this device for a server back up attached to the cable modem directly and it his performed flawlessly.
