I have ours connected to the wireless router via USB. It works great. We're able to store movies on the drive and stream them to any of the TVs in the house using Videostream with our Chromecasts. Automatic backup schedules can't be set up with this set up, you have to do it manually if you use this as a network drive.

This is what I always wanted to provide portability and storage capacity on my home network. I can even create a share folder on it that can be accessed by my other computers on the network.

I ran out of space on my 1 TB computer drive and needed external storage.... fast! I searched for a balance of reliability and cost. From my research, WD has a much lower failure rate than Seagate and the price wasn't much higher. This 3TB drive was a nice balance of $$/TB, so I went for it. Plugged it in and it was recognized immediately! I will be using this primarily for photo storage and didn't need password protection that the My Book offers, so I was able to save a few bucks there. I plan to store all my RAW files on here and use the Smart Preview option with Lightroom as part of my new workflow. I'm back in business! Thanks bestbuy and WD!! Purchased this to complement my new retina MacBook Pro since I was going from multiple internal drives on my old Mac to one small SSD in the new one. I primarily use this to house my Aperture, iTunes, and software libraries and needed space and speed. Over USB 3.0 I get a little over 100 MB/s read and write, which is fast enough to run my Aperture library on and edit photos with. I keep it connected as my main drive apart from the OS and Applications so it is running about 80% of the time, when it's not, I'm not at my desk. Pros are that it is fast, and very spacious, even for someone with a fairly large library. It won't stand up to a Thunderbolt RAID, but for home use it's great. The only con I can think of is noise. It's a rather loud hard disk when it's in use, and it does take a bit of time to spin up causing the finder and related apps to freeze while it waits. For constant use at a desk that is otherwise quiet, it can be a bit annoying. But is worth it for the speed and storage. If you only use it for a backup drive, this will be a non issue.

This product is as good as it gets. Western Digital external hard drives are the only ones I will buy. I've had other brands and they always go bad. I have always had great experiences with Western Digital. If you are looking for a reliable, long lasting and large hard drive, this is the product for you.

I bought this to use as added storage for my Xbox One, and I'm happy to say that it was plug and play. The Xbox One recognized it and formatted it immediately, and I made it the default save location for new games. This drive was exactly what I needed, and I'm glad I chose this one.

I have 4 Western Digital My Book drives of 2TB and 4TB. This one and the others have been trouble free and provide lots of storage space for a great price. I use these on a couple of Mac systems and have had no problems reformatting for OSX. They have been trouble free and quiet drives.

I have used WD hard drive for years with no problems. This is on par with past experience. I used this 4TB external drive to expand my XBOX One memory. Was easy to install and has significantly increased my gaming capacity.

Bought this as my external storage device for the XBone and am not disappointed. Super easy to hook up and use, and completely worth it! A must have accessorie for any XBone owner.

I bought the WD 4tb My Book to store my important files. Since I love 3D art I needed an external drive to store the software, add on's, works in progress, and finished projects. These would totally fill up my computers internal hard drive. Definitely a great purchase for my needs.

I use this as a back-up device for my Apple MBP laptop. This device was very easy to setup, and is super fast over as USB 3.0 connection. 4TB of space should give me plenty of space (and peace-of-mind) for my back-ups.

This is my (new) primary backup drive. It's fast with USB 3.0 and has a lot of storage. It's my 5th Western Digital USB drive--my previous 2 passport drives and 2 external drives are still running reliably over the past 5 years or so. Western Digital external drives ROCK!

This Hard Drive was almost exactly what I was looking for when I had to replace my old 1TB desktop drive that was failing. It had tons of space and USB 3.0 connection. The only issue I have with it is it's size. With all the technology we have today being smaller than in the past, I just don't understand how this drive has the exact same desktop footprint as the one it replaced, which was nearly 5 years old.

Was looking for something to load all my movies and pictures without choking up my pc storage, and this is working great so far. I've been busy with work lately but I can rest easy knowingredients I have plenty of space to store stuff on. Easy to use and set up.

This is my primary backup drive. It is fast with USB 3.0. It has plenty of space. Most importantly, it is reliable. I had an external drive from another manufacturer that kept disconnecting and couldn't be trusted. I have no problems with this one. I am very pleased.

This WD external he is great use it for my Xbox1. It pluggs in Xbox reads it formats no hassle like other ones I've heard about. Thing is massive 4tb for 130. Can store so much stuff on here pictures movies games music. If you need a external HD this is for you.

Easy install (and migration from one computer to another) and so far flawless performance of doing continuous back-up; of course I have not had to do a recovery from the device and expect to never need to do so yet it sure is giving me peace of mind that I seek...

This is my third WD my book for my computer. The capasity allows me to store all my photo files together, and slim down my computer a bit. No problem moving my catalog unto this drive through Lightroom.

I bought this to extend my drive space on my Xbox One. This thing is huge. I have over 15 games and it barely put a dent in the amount of space I can use now. Great. Highly recommend for an external drive.

I like the My Book external hard drive size and the availability to set it up on my desk top. Its compact and easy to use. This is my 3 My Book purchase and the only reason that I purchased was I didn't have this size. I would recommend this for anyone.
