This is a fairly high capacity backup drive solution, available when on sale for a great price at Best Buy. I purchased this because of the highly-touted and advertised "Acronix system level backup" software, downloadable in a special Western Digital edition. What they DON'T tell you is that if you want to CLONE your computer's hard drive, it will ONLY work if your computer's HD happens to have identical formatting - the sizes of all the individual sectors, clusters, etc., have to be IDENTICAL to those on the MyBook.
They weren't idential in my 2 year old Dell Alienware Aurora R4.
Several emails to Western Digital tech support produced answers in which different techs contradicted not only each other but also the user manual! (Example: one tech said the Acronis software only works to backup one internal HD to another internal HD, not an external drive like the MyBook which hooks up with a USB cable!!) Finally, after escalation to an advanced tech who suggested using the "image" function rather than "clone" to back up the OS, apps, and settings as well as the data, I got what I believe is a complete backup. So just be aware, the ad copy really doesn't tell the whole story.

I bought this External Hard Drive for the price most of all but the size was very enticing also. Was glad I went ahead and got the 4T. I should have enough space for a lifetime.

I also have the 2 tb drive and the software that runs them are different. The two programs do not see each other as one is a network drive and the other one is a shared network drive. But they both work great. I just use my 4tb as a backup of my 2tb drive It would have been nice to create the backup from the software but o well

The Xbox one only has limited internal storage. We bought this to expand storage for games. It was really easy to connect and transfer game files to the hard drive. It actually seems like it processes as fast or faster from the hard drive than when stored on the xbox.

What can I say? 4TB is a nice improvement from the 2TB drives I had been buying, It seems to run a little better than the portable My Passport Ultra drives too.

I kept saving files to my hard drive so that I could refer to them later. Anything that interested me, I would save it. I thought that I would never run out of memory because I was not saving a lot of video. But one day I had only one hundred gigabytes left. So I bought this external drive and started saving files there. It works great. One tiny drawback is that it tends to doze off when I'm not using it. Then, when I save a file, it sometimes takes several seconds to wake up and get back to work, but this is very minor. I now have enough memory to meet my needs for years and years.

I use to be a Seagate fan however of late I have had to return every unit I purchased by them back to the store. This WD unit was a plug and play. The unit is also able to read and write for mac and pc.
I would recommend this unit for any of your storage usuage.

Backs up files, doesn't make an image

For the price it was a good deal, but because it doesn't make an image of the hard drive, a 2 tb external hd would have been big enough. I wanted to keep a current back up of all the files that I choose, as well as a complete image backup of my hard drive. Then I wanted to be able to make another copy the next day, so I would have 2 complete sets. Then I could delete the first set and make a new set the next day. Therefore, I could continue making backups while deleting the oldest backup daily. Unfortunately, there are only 2 settings. Automatic selection picks the most common folders to back up and Custom selection lets you choose exactly which files to back up. There is no setting to make an image of the hard drive. Also the hard drive is huge and I have to keep it sitting on my table which means I have to take my laptop to the table to plug it in everynight instead of having a small drive that I can carry around with my laptop.

Purchased a month ago and has been running well. Haven't noticed any excessive noise. A bit of a delay when first starting to use due to it "unparking" the heads, but that helps longevity, theoretically.
