Easy to use and is recognized automatically. If using on a PC just plug and play. If using on a Mac, still plug and play. You have the option to download the software that is preloaded on drive if you want to truly utilize it to the fullest extent. I use it for all my music and movies and it has no issues when I am watching them over the network through Apple TV. Would highly recommend it!

All ways have what I need and great quality products

I was looking for a external harddrive to use to back up my main PC. I looked at several different drives and zeroed in on the WD- My Book 8TB external HD. It comes with a built in software to do the back up. I used the enclosed Windows file backup program and that work well with the external HD. I recommend it to anyone who needs to back up your data.

I've had several of these over the years, purchasing new ones as I need more and more space for pictures, videos and computer backups. Old, smaller drives still working great so I've had good reliability with them. Only issue is attaching them to a router so you can use them throughout your wifi home network can sometimes be a little tricky. Make the format is correct if you do that. Otherwise, great.

Working great for Time Machine backup. Had to reformat for Mac, which is easy with Disk Utility. It is a bit loud (you can hear the disk "thumping" like older hard drives) but it's not overwhelming. For the price, it's a lot of storage. Also bought a couple weeks later another WD 8TB drive called Easy Storage which is a bit less and not as noisy.

THE TECH FOLKS AT USC SAID YOU SHOULD BACK UP YOUR HARD DRIVES BECAUSE THEY REALLY ONLY WORK WELL FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS. I WANTED A DRIVE I COULD BACK UP TO HAT COULD HOLD DATA FROM A COUPLE OF SMALLER DRIVES. THIS WAS DEFINITELY IT! Excellent for a time machine drive too.

Easy set up... plenty of storage for backing up a full computer disk drive

I owned a lot of Western Digital Hard drives and have always have had good luck with them. I've had the 8 TB My Book for a couple of months now and it's working just as I expected it to.

Overall this is a great buy. 8tb is a ton of space and $200 is very reasonable. I have had zero issues with Read or write speeds and although you can hear it working, it is not bothersome. My only complaint would be that it does go to sleep if unused. This hasn't been an issue other than it may take 30 seconds to get into a file if you haven't used the drive in a while. But it's not too bad and it doesn't disconnect or anything like that.

This is my third WD external drive. No problems with the previous ones, just needed more storage capacity. I plugged this in to the computer, and began backing up not just the computer, but the other WD drive as well. The problem I do have with it, is it's loud and makes the desk vibrate, there is no light on it indicating it's actually doing anything, however from the noise it's easy to tell if it's working.

Since I've had this it has worked flawlessly and I'm very satisfied.

Creative professionals need space and speed now more mobile than ever. Our cameras and computers are smaller, but what isn't smaller is data. Filming in RAW and UHD can make storage requirements incredible on certain projects. That storage can't be slow either because we can't be waiting all day for renders now can we? I have 2 of these monsters connected to my editing machine and they are lightening fast and super reliable.

Very good external drive, I store all the movies I buy on disk and this uses allot of space, this is an excellent drive to use and makes my movies available on any TV in my house

I purchased this to backup all of my photos, movies, e-mail, and important documents. I has worked flawlessly. I will purchase another one of these to have a secondary backup.

This is a large capacity external hard drive that is working very well & responds rapidly. It allowed me to transfer images from one drive to it without difficulty & rapidly.

All the memory I need for a lot of files and picutres

I'm not super tech savy, I bought this to add memory to my gaming laptop (to store my PC games). So far it works well! Once again I'm no which is why I gave it 4 stars out of 5, if there's something wrong with it I have no clue. I can get loud, but my laptop already gets loud when I fire up a game, doesn't bother me (I'm used to it). It helps that I got it on sale....
