This product is a great device as far as external storage goes especially considering the price. I have it plugged directly into a NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band WiFi Gigabit Router (R7000) which is the backbone of my network in my tiny apartment. It works well and backup operations using Western Digital software. I have a My Book 4TB unit as well and that doesn't have network connectivity. I've daisy chained this device to the My Cloud via USB3.0 port to extend capacity and connectivity to the My Book. The WD backup/management client is kind of clunky, buggy, and fairly slow but it does get the job done. I have received several update notices and haven't looked if these deficiencies are still a bother. The value otherwise is the storage capacity, network connectivity, DNLA sharing/serving capabilities, and USB storage daisy chaining support all make this a value buy. If you need fast easy backup clients, you'll probably need to use a third party application. I am considering using native Windows software since I'm not sure I need to share media directly from these units any more. Cheers!

It is just a bit tricking initially with a learning curve. It's not a plug in and upload or download device. Love the fact that you can transfer whatever it is you want to the device or view what's on the drive anywhere remotely worldwide and is quiet satisfying. Why didn't i get this when ever they first came out? Absolutely love it.

I have had external backup drives before but never a local cloud. Setup was relatively easy. I am backing up all my family PCs, Laptops, and phones over my WIFI. Phones however backup only pictures. Addresses/Contacts are still backed up through the provider/Google.

I really like this product except the fact that it did not run on my Server (Running Windows Server 2008). There is no work around to get the SW to work on the server so had to do the backup from a networked PC. Other than that the product works great and the back-up feature is really simple. Was easy to install and use.

Previously, I had to keep up with an external hard drive that was usb powered and operated, so it was kind of a pain to have to keep up with my computer backups and what not--so we finally invested in this thing as a family which is both great and secure, as it allows my entire family to upload and share document

Works great for me, the only down side is every time if your router is down, you have to update most my cloud software to new IP address.

This product if very easy to use. It holds many files (documents, pictures, etc.). I almost lost everything in my computer when the mother board went for no reason and I was lucky enough to recover and everything is now transferred to this product.

I purchased this device to store my photos and to be able to share them with family and friends without actually having to send them the items. They can log onto my cloud and view the items from their location.
I can also store media on it and am able to access the media from all over the house on my smart devices.

The WD MyCloud was not as easy to set up as described. We bout this drive because both our laptops were dangerously full. We thought about installing larger hard drives in both computers, but heard about the MyCloud and thought it was a great alternative. My husband and I both tried to back up our iPhoto library's from our MacBook Pros onto the MyCloud hard drive. Unfortunately the device doesn't allow the computers to be directly connected to itself. The transfer had to be done over the wifi. The estimated time was 30 days to move all the photos on one computer!! What we ended up doing was saving all our photos to another external hard drive (our backup) and then directly connecting that drive to the MyCloud and transferring from one to another. This was very quick!
My complaint so far with the drive is that it is slow to retrieve photos when I'm on my iPhone. It takes forever to load a picture! There is another app from WD called WDPhotos that seems to make the viewing of the photos much quicker, but I think it ends up storing some information on the phone.
The idea of the unit is great, however I was hoping the software/interface was going to be more friendly. My router is an new ASUS model and it has cloud storage as well, I was just hoping that the MyCloud would be easier to use and set up.

Simple cloud solution

This is a fairly good solution if you want to cloud a bunch of files. I am still setting up. Very slow migration from a Toshiba 1TB USB 3 external drive to this drive, even following Ethernet advice for file management.
Primary purposes for this drive include hubbing multiple cloud services (which this does well), acting as a Sonos server (which this does well), acting as a file management server (TBD), and as a wireless Plex server.
No contest against a good NAS (Synology or QNap), but a less expensive alternative to a NAS.

The wifi connection is slow and the interface seemingly outdated. Very difficult to get iTunes and photos to work as a networked library. Time machine was a piece of cake to get started. When it spins up and starts writing, it gets a bit loud.

This item was a great purchase. Easy to set up and now have the peace of mind that all my necessary files are being backed up.

I originally was going to get the 2TB but couldn't pass up the extra TB for another $30. The setup was fairly straightforward and I was able to transfer my files to it quickly. The mobile app is also very handy, it is nice to access my files with my tablets and phones.
