Quick and easy install and perfect for my storage needs, which includes documents, photos, video and music. Five home computers connected to drive via home WiFi. Upload and download speeds good. Also happy with the downloadable My Cloud app that allows access to the drive when I am away from home.

    not a NAS

This is a home device. For the IT Techy folks, no, this is not a NAS. NAS is something different; it is a device that is hardwired into a local network. This device, as advertised, is Cloud SAN....a local backup with Cloud sharing and laptop and phone Apps, so it is not intended to be used or operate like a NAS. If you're looking for a NAS, spend the extra $200 to $300 for a NAS device and do your own NAS coding and configuration. Don't try to go cheap and then complain that it doesn't work just like a NAS.

I have no complaints with the device. For a simple NAS-like experience it gets the job done and works quite well for a Plex server. Transfer speeds are much faster than stated in reviews and accessing files is rather simple after setup. The downside is Western Digital’s software support. For Macs the desktop software was not updated to work with Catalina despite having months to get it ready rendering every My Cloud Home useless for Mac users. It took almost a month to update the software which is inexcusable for a tech company.

Don't expect to use this as a high-efficiently media server. It will work alright as such on your home network, but not outside of it so well. If you're just using it for file backup and storage, it's a pretty great solution.

You need to have a little bit network knowledge to setup fixed IP, port, and port forwarding to make it work as NAS, but it's awarding. After assigned local IP address, you can reach the page which allows you to set up as NAS with login and password. Transfer is around 90-100MB/s over Gigabit network. This can be an affordable personal NAS solution if you know how to set up. I used to have 4TB version purchased in 2014 and replaced with this one in 2022.

I PURCHASED THIS TO REPLACE MY OLD WD CLOUD THAT WAS NO LONGER SUPPORTED. I LOVE THE DESIGN. LEARNING HOW TO USE THIS IS A BIT OF A CHALLENGE AS MOST OF THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE ALREADY OUTDATED AND THE APPS TO USE THE PRODUCT NO LONGER EXIST OR NOT SUPPORTED. I WOULD NO PURCHASE THIS BRAND AGAIN.

Alternative to cloud storage. Personal cloud storage. Bought 8TB which is more than enough for personal usage. Initially it will be very slow till you copy all the data. Later It will be very fast to access.

Just bought/installed a My Cloud Home 8TB. I intended to replace an older 4TB MyCloud device, and use the built-in Plex server. It's getting returned. Not planning to buy Western Digital in the near future. In its infinite wisdom, Western Digital destroyed the MyCloud Home, and MyCloud, product lines. Functionality is dumbed-down beyond usability. Specific complaints: - The Network Import service (move data from an older MyCloud device to MyCloud Home) will not detect MyCloud devices on the same LAN, when both are visible to browsers and macOS Finder. - Functionality from the destkop app, iOS app, and webapp are abysmal. ** Can't configure the ethernet port, including to use a fixed/reserved IP. ** Unable to configure device users. Can "invite" users to the device (via WD cloud) but can't configure access beyond a user's private area. ** Unable to create configurable Shares. An "invited" user gets a private area, but there are no administrator-level configurable features. - The Plex server binary is woefully outdated. Despite a multitude of user community complaints, WD will not commit to maintaining its extension binaries. I guess the products are ok, if you don't want any level of control over your data. Analogy: current WD home/home-office products function like the Carl's Junior kiosk from the movie 'Idiocracy' (2005 with Luke Wilson).

This is awesome... I was using an external hard drive with my laptop and having to drag it around and try not to drop it... was a PITA... now I got this tower which sits by my router. I can access it from anywhere - even when I'm out of town. Easy to load and has a great search engine. I mostly store pictures and it will find all of my flower pictures if I wanted it to. I don't worry about running out of space or dragging it around. Would recommend it!

Very good NAS. After about 3 months, I discovered a problem with my device. I spoke to customer support at Western Digital and a new Cloud device was immediately sent to me for replacement. Had it back up in working a day. Use it to archive 30 years of digital photos. In addition, I have connected it to my phone and my Alexa devices. Immediate backup of my phone pics, and with a short time, they show on my Alexa.

We use this as a backup for multiple computers in our house. Setup was easy, other than a short power cord that limited where I put it. Easy to access, even remotely.

Convenience is pretty awesome to be able to access everything from anywhere, but it is PRETTY SLOW. Even though I have it wired in to gigabit internet...still crawls...
