I bought a 4 tb drive a few months ago. I found it was going to run out of room. I bought the 8 tb model. It's not prefect but I have it as a movie drive and going to use the 4 as a tv drive.

Although it works as advertised, I was hoping for faster write speeds. Remote access to the MyCloud device is painless through the web portal and actually pretty responsive. Surprisingly.

My cloud drive is working very good and it works from any place with internet and I am able to connect to it from everywhere. To make sure this device is connected to internet via ethernet cable to avoid any interruption in the service.

After connecting to my home network and installing the My Cloud app the network storage drive was easily accessible. At times it seems like it drops off the network and I'm not sure why.

    Plex server users stay away

Western Digital only allows a customized version of Plex media server to be installed that is greatly restricted. You get little control over Plex configurations. The biggest issue being WD does not let you create additional Plex libraries/folders to organize your content. It doesn't look like I can secure content by user or role. I'm going to see if I can instead network share a directory with my new Nvidia Shield and run Plex server from there. You're also at the mercy of WD to update the plugin. If you're a casual user, or non-technical you're probably okay with the built in plugin. I had to reinstall the Plex plugin a couple of times before I really got it working. Just don't expect to be able to separate your kids content from your own. It syncs with all the major cloud storage services like Google Drive, DropBox, etc. Standard expected feature at this point. The one unexpected synchronization feature that I found nice was the social sync. It downloaded my Instagram.

Got two Mac’s, one Linux laptop and iPhone 14 backing up over Ethernet. So far no complaints except darn thing can get little noise (hard drive) but found a way to place it on a rubber mat to reduce vibrations.

I used the old Mybook Live and later the My Cloud drives to serve movies and music in my home. It seems the My Cloud drives have been replaced with these My Cloud Home drives. These new ones are utterly useless to me and are not in any way a replacement for the older ones. There's no page to set up users, shares or permissions. I could not even find a way to re-name the device. The usb port can't even be used to back up the drive. Who asked for any of this? Five year olds? My advice to WD is to stop production of this garbage, shuck the drives out of the existing stock and land-fill the useless drive cases. Then Google 'New Coke' and study the effects of replacing a good product with an inferior one that nobody asked for.

Here is my issue with the MY Cloud home vs the my cloud. the original 4tb my cloud was awesome. I loved it. the only reason i bought this one....was to upgrade from 4tb to 8tb. big mistake. the my cloud home comes with a dumbed down proprietary app that you must use in order to sue the drive. it was not allowing me to map netwokr drives to it....which was a big problem for me. it also does not allow for individual user accounts and permissions for folders either...its a big pain to manage. if you are an individual, and the only person that will be using this drive, then it would probably work for you. overall i would not reccommend, i returned it before the 30days was up and got my money back. ended up buying the asustor drive enclosure and some WD NAS rated drives instead. must happier with their interface and functionality.
