Bought this wireless passport to have flexibility in my storage of files, pictures, documents. This has helped me a ton. Come with a 1TB capacity on this model and expandable SD slot. Worth the buy for folks on the move.

This is the perfect solution to be able to download my photographs from my camera memory cards while traveling. Now I don't need to lug my laptop with me. The hard drive is simple to use and fits nicely in my camera bag.

I use this hard drive all the time. The wifi is strong and reliable. I have loaded it full of music, video and pictures. My devices can stream the content directly from the device!

When I asked the folks at Best Buy if there was something I could dump my SD card onto without a computer they had no clue their own store carried this hard drive just one aisle away from where they were standing. That fact aside, the drive works great and the SD slot means I don't have to bring my computer on a long trip to dump my cards after marathon picture and video sessions.

Just the fact that this is a wifi hard drive is why im giving this 4 stars. The transfer rate is somewhat slow but regardless it does exactly what it says its supposed to do.

I looked a good while got help from the guy in the store, He told me that it was great one and it was wireless so it was like you could be ANYWHERE and access your stuff, even out on a camping trip with no wifi...well for as long as I was looking in the store, triple that time for me staying up trying to figure this thing out!! too complicated, followed step by step directions and finally after bout 4 hrs i gave up..gave it away. I think i will stick to the good old plug in USB port ones.

I purchased this product and had plenty movies music and pictures int it. About 1 month later the drive crashed. I sent it to WD because I was under warranty and they sent me another defective drive. I gave up on this thing and got the seagate at Best Buy which is a 2tb instead of 1 for the same price as the 1tb of the WD. The seagate is much better.

I have been looking for a solution for saving photos from an SD card from my DSLR. I could use my computer but this provides a portable battery powered solution I can carry in my camera bag. When I found this item it looked promising but it seems to have lots of other possibilities beyond just reading and saving data from an SD card.
You can connect to it directly with USB, or with WiFi from your computer or it can connect to a WiFi network and you can connect via that network. There is a mobile client (iOS and Android) that can also access the drive. You can also use it like a router by connecting the drive directly to an Internet WiFi connection then connecting multiple computers the device.
It can be a media streaming device for multiple users but I have not fully tested those features yet. This requires some "player" software on your computer or mobile device and can stream movies and photo slide shows.
When you pop in the SD card you can configure it to auto copy the files. Some have said it is not super fast but copying a few dozen photos happens in under a minute. I am sure there are faster devices but not this small and battery powered. It does seem to be smart enough if you take a batch of pictures, load them with the SD slot, then take more without erasing the SD card it does not try to copy the ones previously loaded.
On my Apple it automatically mounts as a shared drive plus I have a menu bar icon to access other functions (after loading the Quick View software. You can also simply browse to the device with your browser.
You can do FTP access to the drive via WiFi which could allow an EyeFi Pro card to save data when an Internet WiFi connection is not available (I have not tried this but it should work). At the risk of doing something that could void the warranty you can also do SSH (command line terminal) access to the device. It appears that the device runs a special minimal version of Linux and has an ARM processor inside.
It appears to have most if not all of the functionality of the bigger brother WD My Cloud products and acts like a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device.
Overall I am very pleased with the device. Some reviews have not been totally complementary of the software functionality but I am a pretty techie guy and for me it works well and has all of the features I need.

OK so I spent a lot of time in the store trying o decide about which external drive to get, normally I would have purchased a Seagate, great luck with those so far. But this guy in the store talks with me about this one and how it basically has its "own" wireless network, like so you don't need to plug in and i could be out on a camping trip and use it ...and so on so on so on..BUT this is to me VERY complicated! I stayed up hours trying to get connected , I followed all the directions..over and over...needless to say, I no longer have it...I gave up and gave it to my husband, I have since purchased a seagate 4TB that plugs in USB and SIMPLE to me.

Slow/Erratic WiFi Sync

I purchased this drive primarily as an external drive to store/edit images on without the need for a USB cable. The drive itself is well built and has fast USB 3 transfer rate.
Unfortunately, the WiFi transfer is somewhat erratic (dropped signal) and slow. Caused both Lightroom and PS CC to freeze when accessing or editing images.
The slow speed makes this not ready for prime time.
