Just wanted to note that the 3TB (and possibly other capacities) "My Passport Ultra" drives DO NOT work with Apple's Time Machine feature IF encryption is selected. I tried two of these drives and both failed the same way when Time Machine was attempting to initialize encryption. It gets about 90% of the way into initializing encryption, then fails every time. I tried the same process with a 2TB Seagate Slim drive and it worked fine. The "Ultra" drives DO WORK with Time Machine IF encryption is NOT enabled. Both of the "Ultra" drives I tried were 3TB. Both drives were formatted with Apple Disk Utility to "OS X Extended (Journaled)" and a GUID Partition Map per Apple's guidelines. Could be that all capacities of these drives will have the same problem. Or it could be that Time Machine software has an issue with encrypting drives over 2TB. Could also be that these might encrypt if connected via USB 3.0, although the 2TB Seagate is encrypting on the USB 2.0 connection. The error messages I received during the encryption initialization process were "There was an error preparing the Time Machine disk. Couldn't mount disk." and then "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". Platform: I am running Mac OS X v10.11.3 (El Capitan) on an Early 2009 24" iMac. The "Ultra" drives were connected to a USB 2.0 port on the iMac using the USB 3.0/2.0 cable supplied with the drives.

I bought two of these hard drives to backup my pictures and video files about one month ago. Its portability, 3TB memory, and fast USB 3.0 interface make it very attractive. I have not tried security features yet but they can be beneficial too. I do not have these hard drives enough time to evaluate their reliability but I am using three similar Western Digital 1.5TB portable hard drives for 5 years and, so far, have not had any problem with them.

Western Digital's My Passport Ultra 3TB is the best hard drive I've ever owned. I use it for backing up my computer files as well as storing my music, photos & movies. It's small & portable but huge in storage space. The copy speed is fast and it's easy to use. This hard drive is also very well-priced

I always purchase WD drives. I've experienced them over the years to be the most reliable hard drives. Great Warranty as well. I found this drive is the largest storage size with being portable & not using a USB splitter which takes two inputs (Seagate 4TB External Portable). This WD drive uses a single input for power & data transfer. So far so good and if experience is exact then I should continue to use error free for quite some time. On the expensive side but it is a new item. I used reward certificates & Best Buy Price Match to bring it down to a more reasonable price. In my opinion it's a buy.

With 3.0 usb, its one of the fastest. With 3TB it has plenty of space. It is so small that I get to carry it places if needs be. I recommend buying a carrying case for it. I bought when my seagate crashed and as per reviews WDs have longer life span in general. Very satisfied.

I used this item to connect to my Xbox One for extended storage of games & appsas it has the required 3.0 USB & it is larger than 256 GB. It has large storage capacity & is portable.

WD brand "Passports" are the key to safe storage of all I hold valuable in the cyber world. This was my 4th purchase. [Photography is my world.] This time Best Buy gave me super value, 3T of storage for bargain pricing. I travel a lot. The WD Passport is lightweight and allows me to store photos, videos and my presentations. Should a computer go down. I get a new one locally, plug in the Passport and all I need for business is at my fingertips. The fact this external hard drive goes easily for both PC and MAC adds even more value. Thank you Best Buy for offering quality merchandise consistently!

This hard drive was just what I needed to take traveling in my RV. The speed is very good and it was easy to install. I am a bit paranoid about the storage of my photos on the "Cloud" (which is very touchy when one tries to retrieve them, if you can remember your exact password and don't change the version of the operating system in the mean time) so external hard drives are my storage of choice. I guess that I am a "belt & suspenders" kind of person when it comes to back up. The sales staff helped me get the best price possible when I made the purchase, which also was a convincing factor.

You get 3 TB for a good price in a small package that is easy to carry in the computer bag so it is always ready to copy photos and data to keep it safe.

This hard drive has tons of storage, fast write speeds and is easy to use at a good price. Everything I was looking for in an external hard drive.

This hard drive has proven to be the best travel drive I've ever purchased! It's super fast, very small and has plenty of storage. I usually place all my travel movies and TV shows on it and carry them with me to watch when I have some downtime. I stream directly from the drive without issue even if the movie is 1080p at 60FPS. Can't think of anything else I'd add to this little beast. Very nicely done.

Got this to back up pics on my MacBook. The size is great and it seems to be substantially and comfortably built for travel. It is a little heavier than I anticipated. Though with that, I will not likely mistakenly leave it behind.

3 T is more than enough memory, sleek and slim easy to carry around

Just kidding, but it works good. It may as well be the best. WD is a good portable hard drive brand. And 3TB of ultra-portable memory for pretty cheap--let's face it, that's a beautiful thing. Just listen: don't read anymore portable hard drive reviews...it's probably not even healthy for you...just go buy this hard drive and get back to work.

Very easy to use. It has a small profile - doesn't take up a lot of space. Stores a lot of stuff!

I've had terrible drives like Seagate and Toshiba's with drive failure and precious data loss. Western Digital is legendary for QC and making amazing drives! I will buy no HDD's BUT Western Digital for precious data. This was purchased for Xbox One usage as it's USB 3.0 compliant! Works like a charm! 3TB's is MASSIVE for Xbox one.

Nice, portable and spacious external hard drive with great reliabilty

I love this drive. This is my new backup drive, but I can also use it to be portable when I want to bring things to work, or to someones house. Western Digital drives have always been the best for me hands down. I also own 2 My Books as well, and never had any issues!

This portable hard drive is one of the best I've had. I've dropped it a few times and feared I'd lost my data lucky me it's well built for an active lifestyle. Also kind of rare to find a portable drive with only one USB cord to power the device. Also the USB 2.0/3.0 is a great feature. Works great with Xbox one as well for extra space.

I bought this for my Xbox One. It works flawlessly. As soon as I plugged it in Xbox recognized the device. It provides so much storage space and does not make any noise. I like that I can use this for all of the games and save room on the Xbox hard drive for my apps. I would recommend this to anyone looking for Xbox One storage.
