I wanted to replace my 4 x 3TB raid array in my NAS with these 8TB drives to store my photos, videos, and their source files. I was very satisfied with the amount of space that these drives provided but I was not ready for the amount of noise that the drives made. I cannot stress how noisy drives are and I cannot imagine anyone using these in an HTPC or in a quiet area as I can hear the drives make rattling noises from an adjacent room. I originally thought that maybe one of the drives was defective so I proceeded to test them. I have tested each drive individually and I can say that they all consistently sound like a fist full of coins rattling around in a can. If you are thinking of putting these in a machine in a bedroom, living room, or a quiet location I would recommend against it.

I've been using this HDD on a NAS for over a month already, it has plenty of space for my needs (movie storage), and it doesn't make that much noise.
You can definitely hear it if you sit close to it, but you won't notice it at all when watching movies and/or if you have another source of noise running (like a mini-split AC).
I'm planning to buy another one to set them up as Raid 1, but I'll wait until Black Friday, maybe I'm lucky and can get it for cheap.

Works exactly as expected. I replaced a smaller drive in a Drobo. I have a huge number of photos, and love adding a big drive of this size to increase available space. It's my third WD red drive (but the largest).

I got this drive to incorporate all my medica I had over the years on 2TB drives into one big drive and it worked out great. The drive is a bit noisy on start up but when reading but no too bothersome.

Overall pretty please with the performance. I'm not a high end user but it serves the purpose. Product came quick and easy to install. Will most likely buy 2 more before the end of the year.

I purchased this to replace a 4TB dirve as I ran out of space on my NAS enclosure. I always used Western Digital Hard Drives as they stand up to the test and have 3 yr. waranty. highly recomend using them in any capacity.

This Hard drive died within the first 10min of use. I bought another one and that was died too! I ended up switching brands and that one worked perfectly fine. I guess I had bad luck. That being said, if you get a working one you will be happy. I have bought WD drives in the past with no problems.
