This is a great device if you need to play local files. Plays everything you throw at it. Takes a long time to connect to the network, prefer the WD Lives plus (older version).

Purchased this for my grandpa so he could watch movies on the "big screen" instead of his computer. Connected via HDMI to his samsung plasma, plugged in his TB hard drive and he was good to go. Super easy for him to use, Only called me once with questions and it's been about 2 weeks.

The WDTV does what it says and is a solid choice. I needed a way to play many digital files that I had and this was the solution. The main reason I got this was because my wife just had surgery and I wanted a way to play our digital movies and TV shows that I've saved on an external drive. I wanted her to be able to watch her favorite shows and not have to channel surf or use On Demand. I knew the files I had would be the ones she would want to watch (She loves to laugh!) so I loaded on some 80's sitcoms she loved. Worked like a charm! I don't currently have it hooked up to the internet because I do not need the other apps, etc. If you are like me and have digital copies of your movies and TV DVDs, this makes an awesome way to play them without having to find the disk, turn on the DVD player, change the input, etc. A friend recommended it for me because he loved it. I recommend it too!

This worked as intended to travel with as well is small and light weight.

With so many similar media boxes out there, it can get confusing, I decided to give this a shot. and man is it true. No matter what video file type you throw at it, they all play. I no longer have to convert movies to DVD, keep them in its original file type and your good.

This little box is amazing. Haven't come across a file type it can't read. It's easy to use and setup. Two USB ports, hmdi and Ethernet port. If it had netflix it would be a roku killer. Would buy again.

Unlike the other media players, the WD will play all formats. I also know that WD makes a durable, quality product. I've had one of their media players with 1 TB internal storage for six years now and have used it every day and it's still going strong. I got this one for another room. It's easy to set up and supports Hulu + and Netflix among several other services. The ONLY downside to this media player is the lack of internal storage like my old one has. But then, I don't think any of the other media players have internal storage, either.

I have tried several different media players, this one by far is the best out there, and is more user friendly than all the rest,very good for playing and displaying Movies and movie posters, from your Flash drive or external device.

How does wd not put netflix as a core component on an otherwise outstanding product.

I have a large media library on a nas and this thing does exactly what we wanted it to do, my father (60) and daughter (10) can use the UI with no issues will definitively be buying another for her room soon

I got this one to watch movies stored in my HD, mostly MKV files, it does play all the HD (1080P) movies smoothly. however, you want to connect your HD directly to it with USB, I tried to use the home network to access my media and I got waiting/buffering every once a while.

Easy and quick set up. great! convienent and small enough that it doesn't take up much space.

This is my third unit so far. It will play every single video and audio format you throw at it. This the best media player, period!

It has cool new features, but it's harder to use than the old wd media player one

I would of never bought this if I didn't need it for one purpose which was to access a WD storage drive (locked) through a tv. The device itself seems to do the job okay, except that if you try to play a file of an unsupported format, the whole unit basically becomes inoperable until you do a factory reset.

This little box works great for me. No issues unless the power goes out.

The interface was easy to figure out and it worked great for the use I had for it. I was playing a slideshow off of a flash drive that was plugged into it onto a flat screen TV.

THIS IS MY FOURTH ONE. HAVE ONE IN ALMOST EVERY ROOM. ALLOWS ME TO DOWNLOAD, AND BINGE WATCH ALL MY FAVORITE SHOWS, AND MOVIES.......
