Low price point. It does add about a bar of boost as long a the phone is in the cradle. I had hoped for a bit more but it’s okay.

It helps, but I still drop a lot of calls. My phone shows 5 bars most of the time, but calls still break up and drop.

    Boosted Cell Phone Signal Nicely

Good news is that this device worked as designed and did boost the cell phone connectivity for much clearer calls and more bars when in weak areas. I found the build quality to be absolutely top notch. The connectors were very well made and ensured solid connections between the various components. The components were rugged and very functional. The directions to hook the system up were well written with graphics that made it easy to install. You do have to put the antenna on top of your vehicle and it attaches magnetically so no need to drill holes of course. One concern is that you run the antenna wire into the vehicle through any of several openings but the wire is then subject to some pressures when you close the door or latch. Also the instructions advise you to remove the antenna when you go through a car wash but you can’t do that to avoid a thunderstorm. It’s not a problem removing the antenna and tossing it inside the vehicle, but would be a step a lot of people will ignore. If you are handier you will probably opt to bring the wire in through the firewall or other means so as to remove the exposure of the wire to being flexed when closing the hatchback or a door and would also remove the rain/car-wash exposure. All that being said, I don’t think there will be excessive wear on the cable since you do have rubber moldings in the doors or hatch to absorb the stress on the cable and indeed it seemed water tight anyway. I did test the function in weak cell tower areas and the bottom line is that this device improved both the number of bars and the quality of the voice communication when making a call. I did find that in areas with no nearby (albeit) somewhat distant cell tower access, that the device was not able to reach out to those distant cell towers – so there was no improvement in these dead zone situations. It figures that a 32 times improvement is zero if the signal to be amplified is zero. However I did deduct one star since I had hoped that peripheral areas that were just barely outside the cell tower coverage would gain cell phone access but I did not find this. I’m sure there will be boundary limitations with any device. However this device is lower cost than others from the same brand and I suspect you would find the more costly devices would perform better in 'dead-zone' areas. I did find that the number of bars increased 1 or two bars and even 3 bars in some areas. The manufacturer indicated to go by sound quality versus bars, but I found a direct correlation where more bars appearing when I turned the unit on and got better voice quality as well. By the way a very nice feature though small is that a small light is lit on the cell phone holder when power is connected. The resulting better clarity on conversations was the difference between a call where some words were missed to a situation of perfect clarity. So I do recommend this product for nearly all situations.

When you first open the package, you see a bunch of stickers with install steps. This is not hard to install at all, just take time to plan your install and how you will route the wires so you can place everything within reach of the front dash to mount the cradle and the cigarette lighter plug. Once connected, the little white light blinks a bit and eventually locks on solid, which means it has latched onto a cell signal and is working properly. You can slide the cradle open to accommodate something as large an an Iphone 7 PLUS with an otterbox defender on it (my main phone) but also an Iphone 4 with no case on it, and everything in between. The cradle has a spring loaded slide, so it can slide open to accommodate, and hold tightly, any sized phone. The cradle mounts to the air vent with a perfectly engineered vent mount that has a magnetic mount to hold the cradle in place. The mount holds the cradle tight, it never moved at all. But in addition, if you want to hold your phone while it is in the cradle, you can simply remove the cradle from the mount and hold the phone while it remains in the boosted cradle. The antenna is small profile and holds firmly using the magnet in the base - the base has a paint protector built in, so it doesn't scratch the paint - a nice touch. The cigarette lighter plug has a USB port on it, so you can charge your phone via usb cable while the unit is plugged into your cigarette lighter plug - and the cradle is built to allow the charger to be plugged into your phone (bottom center) so it can charge while in the cradle. Smart. As for performance, I used it with AT&T, Tmobile, and Verizon. In all cases I noticed 1 to 2 bars of signal improvement, sometimes more. More importantly though, I did a speedtest.net test to see if the claim that it improved data speed was true. It is true. Without, I got 70Mbps download speed and 5Mbps upload, using AT&T. With it, I got 83Mbps download, and 13Mbps upload speeds. It did this in multiple tests and was consistently in the same range, which proved that while in the cradle, it was definitely faster. The final test was a place that always drops calls with AT&T and Tmobile. I drove that area and found it was able to hang on and switch towers without getting a dropped call. That seals the deal for me. If you are in a good cell coverage area, you'll find your battery life and data speeds are improved. If you are in a poor coverage area, you'll find it is improved with this unit. In poor coverage areas, it could be the difference between being able to make a call or not, something that I think is a good deal even if you don't use it all the time. Rather than risk not being able to make a call, and having to walk to get signal, this might be enough to get you signal for a call. But in good coverage areas, typical dead spots were not an issue. In case you were wondering, I spent many many hours driving around with this, testing both with and without using the booster. I also tested using different carriers, and it definitely made a positive difference in all cases.

I bought this cell phone booster for my husband since he works in the oilfield and he gets little to no signal while at work. With the booster he actually gets signal and he could make calls or use gps. He loves it definitely recommend it.
