I connected the plug to a power surge extension. While it fit, the device would not turn on. I am not sure if it simply does not work if connected to an extension power surge or the device was defective. After numerous tries, I decided to simply return the item.

I had to turn off almost all my router settings and finally after updating the firmware it would connect with my router settings back to normal. Works fine after that but I prefer my iDevices switch. It gives actual numbers for day/week/year/lifetime power usages not estimates like the WeMo.
